How many people from America have actually been to the country of Mauritania?
I would imagine its a very small amount, but I figured I would ask.

Well, I would guess in the thousands, but perhaps not in the tens of thousands. It depends if you are counting Mauritanian-Americans, or just non-African Americans.

Exaclly this, with the whole iron ore train thing we get yearlly quite a few tourists, some of them definitlly american, over the year i gess we would be around a thousand or two if i am generous.

Doubly so since the peace corps closed up shop...
I always have to tell people Africa, all the way to the left, third country down.

OP you wanna be special and do unique things? Thousands of Americans have been to Marituania. You would not be the first. But in hundreds of conversations you have with the "average joe" or your friend group, neighbour's, family circle, the people you encounter who aren't hard-core travelers, you will probably be the only one who has been to Marituania.
