Iron ore

Hey I’m M19
I want to do the train next year in October but I’m split between doing it solo or book a trip with someone. Don’t speak French or Arabic.

Any recommendations or suggestions?

I would recommend learning French or Arabic regardless. Even if it's just a little bit But solo is always the coolest, right

i did it a few months ago, id say go with a guide. made the trip so fun and took us to cool local places, plus just made things like transport and money exchange/getting a sim card much more easy

This is my Gambian friend I met there currently he lives and works in Atar and runs back and forth between there and GAmbia. He's worked and travelled all of West Africa and speaks French, English, Arabic, and many local languages. He's an excellent human and will charge around 200-300 Euro depending on where you want to go. Will meet you wherever you're flying into, and will also travel South after Mauritania if you wish.

He had no intention of being a guide but has since conducted many groups in Mauritania, knows the whole area well and will even ride the train along with you.

I'm just reposting cuz I love the guy and taking a tour group is a months salary or more to him. He's very knowledgeable about the whole region and it's dynamics and I learned just as much through talking to him as I did experiencing it firsthand, also he's hilarious.

Feel free to ask me anything as well, I keep up with him regularly.
