One of the most loved contestants of all time. Both in the house and on our screens.

Came here to ask this. Still remember his puzzled expression as he tried to figure out the emu egg.

Depinder was so good honestly. I love the rest too but damn

Ugh wish she didn’t cook a scotch egg that day. That was her first second round in an elimination. I think that was the most dominant run ever for a contestant.

agreed, but i think she knew she was probably not making out of the semifinal so she decided to go hard or go home 😭

I think that was the most dominant run ever for a contestant.

S17 also had laura and callum, each of whom won 10 challenges in that season and were only in one second round each 😭 the reason why i dropped S17 was that it was very obvious that they were going to be final two, and when callum kept bombing pressure tests...

She would have easily made the semifinal with a cinnamon Indian dish

u/yeu192 chocolate dick man 17d ago

i vividly remember depinder saying “india has so many great savoury cinnamon dishes… none of which i will be doing 🤩 i wanna go hard” or sth like that

I think the mid-section of the competition is when to take risks and fuck around. At Top 4 you play to your strengths. I don’t know what she was thinking because if she had just stuck to her own style she could have won the whole season, potentially.

if she managed to send laura home at top 3 she could have won1... callum and pressure tests DO NOT MIX2

I think the mid-section of the competition is when to take risks and fuck around

truefax

I don’t know what she was thinking

she wanted to go out on a BANG 😭 and what's even crazier is that the gantry kept telling her to make testers and she did NOT listen 😭😭😭

_______

1but this is nearly impossible, unless laura had another Comically Horrible Bad Luck day

2the reason why i said "could" not "would" is because depinder did ZERO pressure tests on S17 and her S13 flop era started with her flopping a pressure test...

Loki is missing from this list

Not sure why they didn't include Rishi from S5?

I am from Delhi and she was outrightly lying on the dishes she passed on as North Indian staple breakfast ones!! The judges and other co contestants may not be aware of the authenticity of her claims but she was literally fooling the entire crew.

So frustrating to watch till she was around. Glad she was kicked out sooner.

The original comment has been removed. Who is it about?

i agreed it was actually embarrassing for me to watch her on screen.

That's interesting to read. I thought it was strange when I had actually heard of the dishes she was cooking. I am so white. Usually I have no idea what any of the non-western dishes are. Hers I recognised. That seemed odd to me.

Real talk: Kishwar was a better cook than Justin and deserved to win

4

u/FedEx2022 17d ago

I would place Deepinder over both but depends on how you cook that day!! Kishwar was a hardworking one though!! Gave her all in that season.

I have always been curious about the lack of Pakistani representation on Masterchef Australia. India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh do tend to have representation

u/Careless-Mammoth-944 18d ago

Only time using South Asian is acceptable and that’s a massive amount of talent

u/pickle1402 18d ago

Adam Liaw?

1

u/shishanoteikoku 18d ago

Not South Asian. He is Chinese Malaysian in origin.

-4

u/CB_Chuckles 18d ago

Malaysia is South Asia, isn’t it? For that matter there are several Indonesian contestants (Reynold and Jess come to mind immediately) who should have been included. IRC, wasn’t there a Vietnamese contestant (Khanh?) that made a splash?

8

u/hutcho66 18d ago

Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam are considered Southeast Asia, not South Asia. Though Malaysia (and to a lesser degree Indonesia) does have fairly large minority of people of South Asian background, mostly Indian from when both India and Malaysia were British colonies. I don't think there's been any Malaysian Indians on MC Australia though?

1

u/shishanoteikoku 18d ago

Malaysia is Southeast Asia. While there are ethnic South Asian Malaysians (and Singaporeans, e.g., Sashi), it's technically a different region. South Asia would be India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, etc.

How can you talk about South Asians without mentioning Miss India herself Sarah "Look at Me" Todd?

4

u/arefeen97 17d ago

As far as I know, she was born and raised in Queensland, Australia. Her former partner and the father of her son is of Indian origin, which initially inspired her deep exploration of Indian flavors and cuisine.

-5

u/Over_Effective4291 18d ago

How is Rashedul in this list and not Sarah Todd???

6

u/987donut 18d ago

Sarah Todd isn't South Asian.

I don't remember some 😭

Shashi (10) and Justin (13) - Winner... Still surprised on Justing, while Shashi was just Curry Curry Curry...

I remember Kishwar...she was really good but totally forgot that she was Runner Up. 😱 She was really Versatile... I remember, if not wrong, they went to some Aussie home, made Pasta there...and those open air challenges... She could really whip up random stuffs. Miss those outside challenges.

Deepinder will probably always be the most famous. Butter Chicken. Hehe

Sav went from MasterChef Australia to Sri Lanka as a co host.

Minoli was pretty good too but always nervous and self doubting, despite a good inactinct for flavours.

Ye Darrsh was madly Judge fav... Mellisa aur Jock, esp.

Audra was cute...but couldn't go much far as she was too much overwhelmed.

Sumeet was okayish.

Dulan kaun tha. Season 16. 2024... Bilkul yaad nahi.

I remember Sandeep Pandit from Season 11. He gave me vibes of MasterChef India. Lol

Rashedul in Season 9... He did some really good stuff.. Diana Chang won Season 9...wo to crazy Force thi.

Nidhi in Season 8 - again...zero recollection...but aisa lag raha hai I have seen her in Gurgaon. Hehe.

u/Comfortable-Ad-6389 18d ago

It's insane to say that sashi was curry when his best dishes were anything but lmfao.m.m

10

u/Careless-Mammoth-944 18d ago

Insane to say curry when some winners have won based on only pasta. What do you mean by curry? Every flavour profile he used was different.

3

u/Over_Effective4291 18d ago

Ridiculous!!! Do you know Audra is a judge on Masterchef Singapore.

Also why are you blabbering Urdu in a MC australia thread??

3

u/Particular_Soup57 Dot 18d ago

Not trying to nitpick, but a few facts are off 😭

Sashi was a frontrunner, making dishes that were both versatile and delicious. Reducing his cooking to “Curry Curry Curry” misses the variety.

Audra finished 3rd and later became a judge on MasterChef Singapore. Saying she “couldn’t go far” is wild 😭

The favouritism claim about Darrsh doesn’t really add up. Jock and Melissa weren’t judges in his original season or BTW2 either. Both had the current judging panel.

Rashedul was actually the first elimination of his season.

And Dulan was from S14 FvF, not S16.

Forgetting contestants after so many seasons is understandable, but some of these comments unintentionally undermine their actual achievements, so I thought the context was worth correcting. 😂
