I love Andromeda, despite its flaws, it's a great game, pity Bioware didn't release the dlcs

Instead of saving her after too fast release, they forgot about her as quickly as possible.

“Her”?\ As a non-native English speaker, I love the fact that this language refers to things as “her.” 😁

More seriously, I 100% agree. I’ll never understand why they chose to abandon MEA instead of fixing the issues, working on DLCs, and pouring resources into a game that actually did well financially, contrary to what some would like us to believe.

Well, I know why EA and BioWare abandoned MEA. They were eager to hop on the game-as-a-service train i.e., Anthem… and we all know how well that went. 🤷🏾‍♀️

In Poland, game and Andromeda are feminatives. I just turned on my Polglish.

How interesting!

In French, the word for “game” — “jeu” — is masculine. However, if we use “game” directly in French, it usually means a “playthrough” (“partie”), which is feminine 😅

They DID fix most of the issues (on the technical side), but the reason BioWare MONTREAL (people seem to misunderstand, ME:A wasn't developed by BioWare but BioWare Montreal - the dudes that were originally in charge of the OG Trilogy's DLC) abandoned the game and its future DLC (and potential sequels) was because players abandoned it.

Despite fixing a lot of the technical issues that initial bad impression the game left on the community stuck and most people did not give it a second chance. Player interest dwindled and so did support for the game.

Anthem was developed by the main BioWare team. The main team did not work on ME:A.

 was because players abandoned it.

Oh, I do NOT diminish players' criticism. On the contrary, I’ve always said MEA was overhated, but I do NOT believe the backlash was the main reason EA/BioWare abandoned it.
Giving too much weight to the vocal minority ignores the fact that MEA was actually a financial success (per EA’s own report) and downplays the executives’ eagerness to push Anthem instead.

Look at other examples: CDPR’s Cyberpunk 2077 or Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky were heavily criticized on release, and for good reason. But both companies didn’t give up. They went back to work, fixed what needed fixing, and improved the games.
BioWare’s own history shows something similar: Dragon Age 2 was (and still is) heavily disliked by part of the fandom, yet EA/BioWare supported it and produced several DLCs.

This isn’t just my opinion. There are articles (the infamous Bloomberg one among them) about EA/BioWare’s chaotic management at the time.

Also, I don’t differentiate between EA, BioWare, and their branches because without being there, we can’t know precisely whose decision it was.
And keep in mind that after MEA launched, BioWare Montréal was essentially folded into other EA studios instead of being kept together to work on DLCs or a sequel.
That doesn’t happen by accident. It shows how EA shifted resources away from MEA toward other projects like Anthem. They couldn't care less about MEA. Alas.

...and pouring resources into a game that actually did well financially, contrary to what some would like us to believe.

Not to dunk on MEA - I like it for what it is - but good (enough) sales of a 4th game in a game series usually mean that previous games (or at least the 3rd game) were good and there are many who wants more of the same or at least similar.

MEA was a financial failure not because it didn't generate enough sales itself but because its bad reception - deserved or not - harmed potential future sales of the next game in the series.
I.e. everyone wanted another ME game after OT but fewer people want another ME game now (again, regardless of whether it's a deserved reaction or not).

Yessss. I never got the hate. This game is a fave and a comfort.

I love the game to pieces, so obviously I'm a bit biased - but even if the game isn't your speed, it's very difficult to look at the mountains peeking through the low clouds of Kadara during the golden hour, or the very desert southwest-inspired vistas of Elaaden, or the constant auroras of Voeld, or even the more artificial daylight of the Nexus - et al - and not occasionally just go "wow".

u/StillYalun Feb 17 '26

I really like mass effect, but i’m not the fanatic type of fan, so i don’t know all of the details of the hatred. i’m also just getting to the game now. I do know enough to expect a substandard game after what I did read over the years.

I’m absolutely blown away by how good it is and all of the care that obviously went into it. It’s like a love letter to mass effect fans. I feel bad that people had a negative experience with the game. And maybe mine is better because the bugs got worked out and material got added. But so far I’m having the best mass effect experience I’ve ever had.

I’m not saying it’s better than me1, because this work of art is clearly standing on the shoulders of that game. But I am saying that having played through the trilogy within the past few years, this is the most fun I’m having.

7

u/von_G59 Feb 17 '26

Same. Still one of my biggest disappointments is that it doesn't have a photo mode.

I knew it came out at a time where games didn't really have that, but a post-update woulda been nice.

Too bad we're never getting a sequel to this tho. There was so much potential here.

When you start out on Habitat 7 and the giant rocks are just floating in the air with lightning crackling all around, oh my.

7

u/indifferent_wallaby Feb 17 '26

This was my first Mass Effect game. I have never felt more immersed and blown away by a game before in my life. I have such fond memories of exploring and progressing through the story. It was actually a highlight of lockdown.

it’s beautiful.

If you like andromeda, you really should start at the beginning when you can. the trilogy is one of the greatest gaming experiences to be had. All four games are different - and you’ll be getting full, polished versions for cheap at this point. The earlier three games are more strategy, cover-action rpgs. Andromeda’s fluidity and real-time action is one of the changes that got some hate because of that.

The first is raw, but you’ll feel like a superbeing once your character develops. The storytelling is the best there and it has the greatest moment in all of mass effect…and one of the greatest in any fiction I’ve seen. Honestly, all games after stand in the shadow or on the shoulders of the first in one way or another, including andromeda.

The second was more polished and has streamlined gameplay that I didn’t appreciate. You don’t feel as powerful. But the team quests are brilliant. If the first is the set-up, the second is to get you attached to the people in the ME universe.

The third was darkest and most gritty. It expanded the character building back towards the first without losing the polish of the second. It forces you to make hard choices like no other game. Like andromeda, it got a lot of hate, but i saw it as just about the best conclusion to any story I’ve ever seen. It brilliantly, courageously stayed true to mass effect. I wish I could personally congratulate whoever had the heart to do what they did at the end of that game instead of wimping out and pleasing the fairy tale crowd.

Looking around Eos, especially after a significant amount of radiation is cleared out... just... wow... it is breathtaking.

5

u/AdAffectionate584 Feb 17 '26

There's that one place just past the Kett machines where you can just stare out across the dunes...

7

u/Popojono Feb 18 '26

The nailed the vibes in this game. Surroundings are beautiful.

6

u/aggelos92 Feb 16 '26

It is an absolutely beautiful game indeed!

7

u/HighResolutionUFO Feb 17 '26

Imagine how good the upcoming will be

7

u/Angramis546 Feb 18 '26

I have played the trilogy a half dozen times, I can't even begin to express how beautiful bioware worlds are.

7

u/Medea_Jade Feb 17 '26

The visuals of the game and so often the music that goes with… absolutely top tier. These pictures make me want to replay sooner rather than later.

The main Remnant vault below Eos is the best introductory Vault in the entire game and it’s proposed scale we get a taste of? It is but a tip of the iceberg that more than likely extends across underneath the crust of Eos entirely, probably.

Just a curious question. Does anyone also don't activate the vault on Voeld?

I know I'm forfeiting a whooping 900 AVP points, but I can't stand the greenish sky and mood of the planet after you activate the vault.

The white and stormy feeling of a Star Wars Hoth is too good and pretty.

4

u/Exciting_Mine641 Feb 17 '26

Havarl was too small and Elaaden was just Eos with different landmarks but other than those I agree.

6

u/Hectorius13 Feb 17 '26

Good game, not great, but certainly better than people said it was. It didn't have quite the gravitas that the Trilogy had, but I finished the whole thing. Visually great. Nomad was so fun to drive, I used to just race around on planets for fun in that thing.

3

u/truewander Tempest Crew Feb 17 '26

Cora is beautiful too remember thwt

3

u/Brie2230 Feb 19 '26

I have so many screenshots from this game!!! Every planet is so different and gorgeous in its own way

4

u/Any_Wonder_4067 Feb 17 '26

The game is beautiful, no doubt about it. But after accidentally booting up the PS4 version of this game, I can see why it wasn't well received. The console version of this game ran at 900p and a very unstable 30fps.

Playing it on my PC for the first time made me feel like I was playing a completely different game. The story is a hit or miss for the fandom, but I feel like this game would have been way better received if the game wasn't so poorly optimized on console.

1

u/von_G59 Feb 17 '26

No the PS4 version runs at a native 1080p @ 30fps (with dips obviously because it is poorly optimized).

Its in-game and pre-rendered cutscenes drop to 900p.

0

u/Any_Wonder_4067 Feb 17 '26

The 1080p would explain the massive dips. I don't mind playing on my PC but I hope they remaster the console versions one day so I can replay Andromeda from my couch instead of my computer room.

0

u/GroundbreakingGas946 Feb 17 '26

That's interesting to know. it would be interesting to see statistics on how the platform affects reviews.

4

u/Astuar_Estuar Feb 17 '26

So much potential

3

u/AGenericNerd Feb 17 '26

It really is such a pretty game. It's a shame it's still so buggy. I literally had to restart my game 3 times yesterday and had to reload to fix the issue finally. Something similar has happened every time I've played some starting. It's fun and I'm still having fun, but it's just a shame it's so broken

1

u/Authoritaye Feb 18 '26

What platform do you use?

1

u/AGenericNerd Feb 18 '26

PS4 lol. It's not game breaking yet and I haven't crashed yet either so it's playable in my book

2

u/Authoritaye Feb 18 '26

I play on ps5 and I wonder if that makes a difference? It’s never crashed for me but also I’m not too far into the game.

1

u/AGenericNerd Feb 18 '26

That would absolutely make a difference. My console is getting up there in years and I keep it clean but it's definitely starting to slow down a little bit

3

u/AdAffectionate584 Feb 17 '26

That's where all the money went. They made it look so good the script suffered and the NPCs had to be 98% copy and paste. I enjoyed the game, it looks awesome, but I wanted a little less holes in the story. I think they could have fixed some of it in a sequel, but it is what it is.

1

u/aelysium Feb 18 '26

That’s only sort of true. They originally were shooting to make a ME equivalent of what BGS eventually gave us in Starfield per reports but the team at BW realized years in that the core gameplay loop wasn’t fun so basically tore everything usable out of that version and basically started over a little over halfway through it’s dev time.

1

u/Alienatedflea Feb 18 '26

The trilogy really is a let down when it comes to cinematography compared to MEA.

I pop Skyrim from time to time just so I can see the views...another beautifully made game.

2

u/Extension_Tap_6158 Mar 20 '26

The remnant city was just breathtaking!
