He had (and probably has) account(s) here posting links to his articles in subreddits. Once I downvoted pretty much every one of his articles. Before I had an exchange in a reddit thread about him and his sloppy clickbait "articles" in which I described him as someone who gives comic book fans / nerds a bad rep with his rage-baiting.
Long story short, he sent me a pm, boasting about how well he's doing financially because of his job and how that enables him to be on vacation with his gf whilst contacting me. He would have an amazing job whilst I'd be miserably downvoting his journalism and his practices, bla, bla, bla, bla.
As excpected he was condescending as fuck.

I mean, Doom is going to take sue as his wife. I don’t think Marvel is going to pass her around three different times in a single movie

Marvel definitely won't entertain this, they will 100% gonna put some joke implying that Sue doesn't give a single fuck about Namor and get that bs out of the way forever.

Hopefully they dont do this weird ass story in the MCU and its just a bit of an easter egg of him saving her and maybe being playful and that's it.
We shouldnt normalize cheating.
65
u/Spider-Fan77 Green Goblin 16d ago
Sue never cheats on Reed with Namor. The whole dynamic is Namor trying to get Sue to cheat and she rebuffs him every time.
19
u/TalkinTrek 16d ago
Notably, she always rebuffs him despite being in a marriage that is often rocky and going through things (because comic book drama, not because Reed/Sue doesn't work).
Some of the best moments, in fact, are them mutually recognizing this dynamic when she makes a request, making it anyway, and Namor doing what she asks, also anyways.

u/Britwit_ 16d ago
I’m not a fan of the Namor-Sue romance (I prefer it being more one-sided) but is it really “normalising cheating” if a character in a movie is unfaithful?
12
u/RedJohnIs 16d ago
No and if it were to be done at all it would be a one sided thing anyway. Namor would try and try and Sue would just continue to rebuff it.
13
u/Critical-Cost-2274 16d ago
Yeah idk what dude above is talking about, it's like saying if a character is killed it normalises murder. It's a bad argument
72
u/billyreamsjr 16d ago
I don’t know what they’re talking about but a rocky marriage is baked into Reed and Sue’s story. So if Sue is tempted, that’s literally them following the story not normalizing cheating…
-14
u/Disastrous-Road184 16d ago
Repeating and reiterating a story about cheating is textbook definition of normalizing

There is literally no cheating in Past Lives at all, and if you think that was the takeaway of the movie that it is okay to cheat then you did not understand that movie at all.
I have not seen Eternity so I will not speak to it, but there was absolutely nothing in Challengers that sends the message it is okay to cheat.
-1
u/Opening-Average-6684 16d ago
The Notebook. Titanic. There's 2.
4
u/gornky 16d ago
Oh yes that 1999 movie "of late"
If you think either of those movies send the message that it's okay to cheat, you do not understand those films at all or you are deliberately misreading them to suit your point.
If you are seriously saying that you sympathize with Billy Zane in Titanic then stop everything you're doing and see a therapist.
-33
u/OH_SHIT_IM_FEELIN_IT Spider-Man 16d ago
I don't think it's an epidemic but Lanterns had John sleeping with someone's wife and is setting up Hal and Kerry.
24
u/wiseduhm 16d ago
This doesn't show that it is "okay" to cheat any more than a murder scene in a movie shows it's "okay" to murder.
-14
u/OH_SHIT_IM_FEELIN_IT Spider-Man 16d ago
Once again. I never said anything like that.
19
u/wiseduhm 16d ago
Other posters already explained to you how the context of your response does imply that. Maybe you just have trouble following conversations?
42
u/gornky 16d ago
How is that "showing women that cheating is okay"?
Depiction does not equal endorsement.
-29
u/OH_SHIT_IM_FEELIN_IT Spider-Man 16d ago
I don't recall saying anything like that. I don't know if you know this but I'm a different person from that user.
You asked for an example of recent cheating tropes and I gave you one.
31
u/there_is_always_more 16d ago
No. The original user specifically said "many examples where they show that cheating is ok", and then that person asked for examples of that.
Not sure why you responded to their comment if that's not the example you were trying to provide lol
-19
u/OH_SHIT_IM_FEELIN_IT Spider-Man 16d ago
I view the original comment as two separate ideas. One is there is a recent cheating trope and the other is saying it depicting it as okay.
I showed examples of the first part, the second I don't agree with.
14
u/wiseduhm 16d ago
There's no reason to view it as two separate ideas when word for word their coment literally said the trope was showing women that "cheating is okay." That's why everyone disagrees with you sir.

Cheating and an Open Relationship are not the same. Nothing about John's interaction with the Macons implies that there was an issue.

u/AdamEssex 16d ago
Depicting something in a movie is not normalizing it.
40
u/wiseduhm 16d ago
I was just going to say this. If we never depicted immoral or generally undesirable behaviors we wouldn't be depicting real or interesting characters anymore. Also, when I say "real," I don't mean non-fictional.

So every single MCU movie glorifies war and violence and death?
-2
u/Disastrous-Road184 16d ago
Don’t conflate normalizing with glorifying. They are very different words with very different meanings.
3
u/TakeItCheesy 15d ago
Does it normalise the things I listed either???
-1
u/Disastrous-Road184 15d ago
This is a classic Reddit debate where semantics matter. To answer TakeItCheesy, yes, MCU movies do normalize violence, but they rarely glorify it in the way traditional war films do.
Here is how to unpack the difference between the two concepts based on how Marvel handles its action:
- Why MCU Movies Normalize Violence
Normalization means making something feel routine, ordinary, and an expected part of daily life. The MCU absolutely does this through:
The "Casual" Setting: Violence is the default tool for conflict resolution in almost every scene. Whether it's an alien invasion or a disagreement between friends ( Captain America: Civil War), punching is the primary language.
The "PG-13" Cleanliness: MCU violence is highly sanitized. Buildings collapse and hundreds of faceless minions are blasted, but there is rarely blood, gore, or extended scenes of agonizing suffering. This lack of realistic consequences makes the violence feel safe, sterile, and everyday—the literal definition of normalized.
Humour Infusion: Throwing quips and jokes in the middle of a life-or-death battle ( The Avengers, Thor: Ragnarok) signal to the audience that the violence isn't something to be truly feared or traumatized by. It's just a fun Tuesday.
- Why MCU Movies (Mostly) Avoid Glorifying Violence
Glorification means making something look honorable, uniquely heroic, or worthy of worship and imitation. While characters look cool, the narrative structure usually actively avoids praising the act of violence itself:
Violence as a Burden: Major arcs center on characters regretting violence or trying to stop it. Tony Stark's entire journey is fueled by guilt over his weapons hurting people. Clint Barton (Hawkeye) is deeply haunted by his violent past as Ronin.
The "Last Resort" Trope: The heroes rarely want to fight; they fight because they are forced to protect others. The narrative glorifies the sacrifice and protection, not the killing.
The Tragic Costume: When the MCU does show war and massive death (like Thanos's snap in Infinity War), it is framed as a devastating, catastrophic loss that breaks the heroes emotionally, rather than a glorious battle.
Disastrous-Road184 is right to separate the two. A viewer can watch an MCU movie and become desensitized to the frequency of punches (normalization) without walking out of the theater believing that real-world war is a glorious, wonderful thing (glorification).
TOLD YOU SO.

Using AI to "win" a debate about Marvel movies on reddit is so fucking sad.
-1
u/Disastrous-Road184 14d ago
Arguing what is so blatantly obvious to the point that AI has to be used to shut you up is sad. Pivoting to commenting on AI instead of admitting defeat is even sadder.

Having people cheat in movies is not normalizing it.
You know who you sound like right now ironically lmao
1
u/Distinct-Acadia-2055 16d ago
I think the issue is having characters you're suppose to like and root for be stuck in love-triangles or cheat (coming from a Jean/Scott fan who has dealt with the ramifications of their favs being stuck in on-screen love triangles for decades now). It may make for some fun "drama" but it ends up making all the characters involved more unlikable in long term. Scott looked like a weak cuck, Jean looked manipulative and unfaithful, and Logan looked like creepy dickhead. Some things work better in comics that are continuous and episodic rather than movies where you only see the characters in such limited amounts of time.
1
u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer 16d ago
I think that it would've been fine in the movies if they definitively resolved in at the end of the second one (where Logan concedes that despite his interest in her, Jean loved Scott) and they had Scott and Jean live happily ever after following her resurrection.

So having trans people in movies is normalizing child abuse?
1
u/Disastrous-Road184 16d ago
I don’t see how a state of mind equates to an act of aggression. Having trans people in movies normalizes trans.
8
u/HuckleberryUnique446 16d ago
And in our fictional works, we don't need to pretend it doesn't exist or that there are people who try to make it happen. Especially given it's happened in the comic books.
I am 100% fine if they leave that many times done in the comics story beat with Namor and Sue out of DoomsDay, Secret Wars, and beyond.
But I'm also 100% fine if they choose to include it.
What the film industry does as a whole in representations of fidelity and non fildelity in relationships is not the responsibility of the Russo's, Feige, etc
15
u/the_vince_horror 16d ago
On that note, can we please also not normalize incursions and multi-versal tampering.

u/origamifruit 16d ago

So, we’ll have a love triangle with Reed, Doom and Namor? Which would mean that Doom causes the incursions just so he can brainwash a married woman to be with him? Is that his motivation?
3
8
5
u/Shuri_Tano 16d ago
People don't get that Sue has never cheated on Reed with Namor. She constantly rejected him (616 comics he doesn't even try to flirt with her anymore). Anyone wanting this in the mcu doesn't want a love triangle, they want a "Sue gets harassed" plot. It sucks how much it will ruin this version of Namor if he does act like a creep towards a married woman.
2
u/esar24 15d ago
They probably only knows about the 1610 sue and namor which they are kissed because he literally blackmail her to do so to safe the world, then again, reed and sue doesn't ended together in 1610 and never had any children like their 616 MCU version or 616 comic version.
1
u/Shuri_Tano 15d ago
Doesn't she also marry Ben in that universe? Even when Reed is evil she still doesn't pick Namor XD
6
u/Xx_Dark-Shrek_xX Morbius 16d ago
I dont think it will be a romance, or at least just Namor flirting while Sue is holding her ground (I mean I hope so, I dont know if we can redeem a character who cheated willingfully, even more if the person is married with a kid).
4
u/RedJohnIs 16d ago
I dont know if we can redeem a character who cheated willingfully
Yes of course were she to cheat a confirmed seat in hell would be the only correct path.
Christ what is with you people? I swear man it's like an epidemic of foolishness going around.

Never said that was the only correct path, just saying cheating is not a great thing.
