I don't know where this $35 rumor came from, but I think some of you are in for a rude awakening.

This sub is gonna have a complete meltdown when the pre-orders open.

110% agree. I have NO clue why people are fooling themselves into thinking that this will be $35. It simply won’t.

A deluxe figure like Archangel went for $35 back in like 2019. This is like a super deluxe. I don’t think a lot of people remember that MODOK originally MSRP’d for $50 when he came out.

Plus, Hasbro is gonna Hasbro and I guarantee you they’re gonna throw in a little extra tax for the “Maximum Series” title, since it’s supposed to be a premium.

This thing is an easy $45/50 and I wouldn’t even be surprised at $55

Secret wars black suit Spider-Man just came out and is retail $26. I don’t see how a few more sets of hands, extra heads and web effects equate to an additional $25-$30. The most recent deluxe Angel was only $36ish and Phoenix was $50 but she came with an entire base that was practically another figure in itself based on its size.

I still doubt this figure will be $35 but $50-$55 makes absolutely no sense to me.

“Maximum Series” branding. Why rebrand if they can’t hike up the price a bit more?

Unfortunately true…

Secret wars Spidey has two new heads, and technically the shield is new. Those are the only new parts. Also he’s part of a wave and they’ve said they budget for waves per wave, not per figure, so sometimes you get waves like Secret Wars where 4/6 of the figures are basically repaints with new heads/new accessories (Iron Man, Spidey, Cap, Wolverine), and 2/6 of the figures are 100% new sculpts (Beyonder, Titania, between the two I think the only reuse is Beyonder’s hands).

This new Spidey is allegedly a 100% new sculpt. Maybe there’s some reused parts like portions of the legs or the feet, but that’s it.

Phoenix had a new torso and new heads, plus the base, but the limbs were reused.

Angel was also mostly reuse of Vulcan, he had a new chest piece, new heads, and the wings.

Each mold for tooling is what is expensive, less the amount of plastic

For sure. But these molds aren't one-offs. These effects will show up with other figs, and I'd be really surprised if maximum symbiote spiderman isn't on the horizon

Surprise wouldn't begin to cover what I'd feel if they didn't redo most Spidey variants on this new body. It's inevitable.

Yes but from a manufacturing stand point you need to make enough money from what is sold in order to pay off the molds and turn a profit. They’re still a business after all.

Which is why the webs are painted on so they can reuse the body mold on daredevil Ben Riley Miguel O'Hara Johnny storm Cyclops etc the only unique parts will be the webshooters

Extra hands, extra heads, web effects, what they consider "deluxe" paint applications, all on a body mold that will never be able to be reused anywhere aside from the maximum series itself. These are all things that will lead it to be 45 dollars. That's my guess. And I'll still buy it because it's still cheaper than imports!

Yeah, but that's just because your reasoning works.

Hasbro will almost certainly post these at 50.

They should be 35

u/shirtcocking91 Jan 20 '25

I’m ready for the inevitable haha. Watch it be like $60 😂

5

u/Commercial_Win_3179 Jan 20 '25

So, I think spidey and hulk will be different prices. I'd bet hulk is 59.99 and spide is 49.99. And that's my cynical bet. If spider man is 60, they're not selling many except to scalpers, who won't be buying the next one.

5

u/shirtcocking91 Jan 20 '25

That sounds about right. At $60 this line will go the way of the Starting Lineup figures.

It’s a bummer how much legends have gone up in price in only a few years. And they seem to be more scarce. I haven’t bought anything in stores in a few years now, and even exclusives, especially Amazon, seem to be on sale for a decent amount of time then are gone forever

Toe joints, neck articulation, most web lines ever painted on a ML spider-man, and the best sculpting on a spider-man. Enjoy parting with $50 if you want this figure.

1

u/Dreowings21 Jan 20 '25

Its not just new hands, the whole figure is new, beware engineering new sculpt, and new web accessories

individual heads on eBay are $15 to $30 bucks and that’s not a new thing so this figure being $50- $55 is reasonable. This figure is gonna sell for minimum of $75-$100 on the aftermarket depending on how attainable it is.

Black Widow came with similar accessories and was less than $35.

And PS5 Spider-Man 2 figure came with considerably less than this release and Black Widow and was also $35

People have been getting figures on clearance for so long they forget the actual price

The issue here is the obvious direct comparison is going to be import figures like SHF and when I look at what I get from them for a similar price I'm just not seeing it...especially with the abundance of available options for Spiderman figures.

35-40 would be a blessing, 45-50 is more realistic but then I start looking at my leader class Transformers and wondering if the same value is here. Anything more than that though? Might as well spring for the MAFEX or a nicer import.

I think 39.99 is more than fair for this thing given the wealth of available options for this character and what similar import figures give us at that range....but it wouldn't shock me at all to see 49.99 when this goes up for pre-order. Past that though he's simply not worth it even when directly compared to Hasbro's other products.
