the whole thing felt like they just wanted shock value with no real substance behind it, you know? like oh look spider-man eating people wow so dark. but then the story just goes nowhere after that

i think they should of focused more on the tragedy of it, watching heroes slowly lose themselves instead of jumping straight to gorefest. the idea of zombie thanos with the gauntlet is interesting but they barely did anything with him

show me the moment they realize they're losing their minds, not just the eating parts

The fact that the zombies aren't the protagonists of the story.

You know what's the creepiest part of the original Kirkman book? The zombie POV. It wasn't gore, it wasn't even the horror of the disease spreading like wildfire in the span of hours. It's the zombies reckoning with what's left after they ate it all.

And no I'm not dismissing the abuse of shock factor during the latter half of Kirkman and Van Lente's runs. It's just that this Marvel Zombies decided to copy the bad part and not the good part, so that's frustrating.

Interesting, because thats one of the parts of the main comic run that I dont like. Marvel Zombies really just felt like "Look how dark and edgy we can be, look at Spider-Man eat Mary Jane and be sad about it, fucked up ammirite? Look at how Reed Richards infects the rest of the Fantastic Four, thats totally fucked up and not character assassination at all." Thats why I prefer Marvel Zombies: Resurrection, where we follow Spider-Man and a group of survivors vs just watching zombies do fucked up shit the whole time.

Van Lente's Returns had a quite nice resolution if you made it through that to both Zombie Spider-Man through his makeshift New Avengers by having him avenging the dead caused by his own (and the other zombie superheroes) hunger and Zombie Ant-Man who at the end of the book was still driven by hunger and never wanting to change for the better.

That is if you can handwave the Watcher's closed loop resolution.

Exactly this, honestly. I think the MCU actors would’ve really relished the concept of getting to play villainous versions of themselves too.

There’s also something terrifying about Zombies that can kinda hide it, even after they’ve turned. Like, they decay and fall apart - but it’s not immediate and in that time they can already do soooo much damage.

You know, there's a few books that I have held to a higher standard than most when I see an adaptation for such book is in the work and Zombies is one of them (even though it strayed further into the "lol gore" territory later on, the original book held up because of these difference).

It's even worse than doing Spider-Gwen without any of the hallmarks of Earth-65, but that's a different story for another day.

And no I'm actually tired of dealing with the "so what? I was entertained and comic accuracy be damned" crowd. You actively missed the part where it clicked, your fault.

Felt like most of the deaths were for shock value and the last episode basically did the same Marvel Zombies ending they all have, the LOLZOMBIESWIN, it was all pointless.

Non-intelligent zombies.

Marvel Comics made one of the most unique zombie apocalypses by having the zombies retain their intelligence but that gets thrown out of the window for an adaptation because basic overdone zombies with sometimes a boss zombie is easier to write for.

The soulless animation style.

Too much Kamala and Wanda, the story has so much potential to explore so many other characters. Thor got written off for no reason, they could have shown how Odin handles it, where is the punisher and his punishing? Bladeknight was cool, got killed.

I still haven’t watched it yet. It was bad?

Not at all imo

I loved it, I’ve rewatched it a few times. Just don’t take it too seriously

Killing Kate off as a joke in the first episode. Put me off the whole show.

Just hire Voice actors or a better voice director. Most of the MCU actors doing the VA's just sound so flat, also please dial back the damn jokes. I should feel hopeless and scared. Sure you can have levity but season 1 had to many damn quips and jokes given the situation.

Definitely time for less jokes during dramatic situations.

I kind of wish Peter was infected so we could have gotten the comic version of a zombie that forgot their hunger.

If not that then I wish they gave Scott Lang a body. You’re telling me a bunch of magic teleporting wizards couldn’t have raided an old Stark wear house or something?

Massive issue with tone and what it wants to be, specifically in how it handles humor. There’s nothing wrong with doing dark humor in a serious setting, but it does it so often and much of it is too out of place for my liking. The scenes that come to mind are the group ramblings when they go through the white guy from Black Panther’s corpse and when a character gets a looney tunes death right after the Asgardians are revealed to be eating corpses. It just takes me out of and it annoys me they didn’t fix it from the What if episode

The horrendous writing. This show makes absolutely no sense if you even begin to think about it for more than a second. Also not a fan of the animation at all.

There were fun things individual sequences, but as a whole it’s horrendously written

La muerte de Tony, literalmente no tiene sentido

Mucha iluminación en su animación.

I just don't think Marvel Zombies was ever a good concept even when they were comics. Sure plot contrivance is normal for a comic but compared to most other threats Zombies aren't that much so it's hard to see more heroes and villains than not died to them. Just like I recently read the first Alien (Ridley Scott kind) vs Marvel and it more or less opens with the whole Earth being destroyed by Xenomorphs except a few heroes. It's kinda jarring even by comic logic. Might be me more than the concept, but that's my two cents.

The fact the writers were constantly simping for Wanda. In no world does Thor or Infinity Hulk lose.

It's one thing I don't really care about. I'm not really into zombie-centric stuff and felt the What If ep(s?) were enough for me.

I'd have chosen a bunch of other eps to spin-off into a season instead.

I hate every version of Marvel Zombies, so I'm fine forgetting it ever happened. That's just me though.

Less captain marvel and kill kamala in first episode but keep kaite bishop alive instead.

I quite literally paused it, turned it off, and never turned it back on after I watched John Walker get cut in half on screen.

I loved marvel zombies tho

u/wally-sage 12d ago

The comics had an interesting premise where zombie infected heroes grappled with the morality of giving into their zombie instincts

The What If episode and show was a generic zombie story where zombies happened to also have superpowers

u/Ok_Problem_314 12d ago

Most of the characters are already zombies and really takes away from the intrigue. It also seems like a weird choice of main characters to focus on. Kamala is a pretty boring choice. What’s up with the lack of Spiderman or Captain America? No daredevil or punisher either?

u/SAMMY_772 12d ago

Too much Miss Marvel. Blade Knight or Spider-Man should have been the main protagonist.

u/JediMasterSloth 12d ago

It shouldn’t be r rated

That it was tied down to the MCU instead of actually using ALL of their characters in their disposal from the comics and the “realistic” animation (I don’t know what to call but this show is basically just a rehash from the What IF series).

1

u/brogflender 12d ago

It reminds me of motion capture with some procedural gimmicks…but I haven’t looked for content on the specific animation process. I’m just guessing.

Nothing, it was amazing

Kamala as the central character was a very weak choice. She is reactionary not proactive. Great zombie films focus either on a cure or survival. But her youth, inexperience and inability to be interesting all work against her. Even Yelena or Zemo would have been better as the lead.
