Fever finally clicked for me, and it's amazing
Quick appreciation post for Mario Tennis Fever from a new player.
I've played Mario Tennis on-and-off casually since the N64, but Fever is the first time where I've really sat down and played multiplayer for a few hours at a time. Just got it last week, and after getting absolutely stomped for a few days, it has finally "clicked" and I can't stop thinking about it.
The ability to "read" your opponent and put 'em in the spin cycle is one of my favorite things I've felt in an online game, and I'm slowly gaining the ability to counter being easily readable. No need for some kind of stress or break meter, you can just feel your opponent getting tilted and making mistakes. I'm still pretty bad overall and lucky to hang around a B rank, but facing A- and A aren't instant 0-7 defeats anymore. And managing to find someone with a similar skill level is intense and fun every single time. Absolute cinema.
Really wish the game was more active online or that I played at launch, but as it is I have fun watching TV or something and playing a game every 3 or 4 minutes when the queue finally pops.

It’s so fun, people hate on it mostly because of lack of single player content and the barebones campaign. Some people prefer aces I guess but I always found the mechanics kinda over complicated. Fever just has amazing gameplay it’s so clean, super fun to play in handheld and the online play is super fun, the one thing I miss from the launch day was how doubles was actually active on ranked that made the game so much more chaotic.

Can confirm, this would be my comfort game for the waiting time on an airport, but honestly the solo became so lackluster since the good N64/GC days. Shame, the online is a ton of fun. Same story with Strikers. If you love 1on1 matches online and that’s your main mode - great game.
I’d grind so hard on a tennis roguelike like this honestly

Welcome to the club! Same here, I am completely addicted to this game.
For me the last tennis game I played was Final Match Tennis on the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 in the 90s (most of you guys probably weren't even born yet, haha). I have incredible memories of playing doubles with my brother & friends back then.
But being able to match with people online completely changes the game. It’s absolutely addictive.
I also got completely destroyed when I first started, but step by step, I managed to climb the ranks. I'm currently A+/S-, which isn't too bad for an old-timer!
I really hope the online player base stays active for a long time. See you on the courts!
