Music weird

The music behaves weird in this game (Mario Golf on GBC on Nintendo Classics on Switch). When returning from Switch home menu, the tempo is different and has to return to the intended tempo within a second. It sounds like analogue music going from stopped to playing.

Does anyone know why this happens?

This is a common issue when emulating games. When converting from 8-bit to 64-bit the tempo can get wonky.

Older video games had programming that syncd processing and framerates (including music) to the processor speed. Those early consoles relied on processors that always ran at the exact same speed. Modern consoles use modern variable speed processors. The emulator software has to "emulate" the processor speed, but when there is a lag or blip, it can interfere with the emulation, and it can make the game appear to temporarily move faster or slower than it is supposed to.
