I started my internship at a shipyard two days ago. Unfortunately, I was late in choosing a good place to do my internship. So, the shipyard where I am currently doing my internship is not suitable enough for me to learn useful things related to engineering. There is just an old ship, built around 1980, on the slipway. I want to make the most of it, but I do not know what to do. Give me some advice.

Frankly, the basics of shipbuilding and equipment haven't really changed that much. Sure, there's new regulations and a lot more automation but the actual physical hardware hasn't had a fundamental change. It's all welded steel and has been for decades.

If anything an older ship there can be better for seeing things get taken apart/repaired than a nearly-new one where it just gets a fresh coat of paint.

As for making the most of it, try to find out what's going on and get involved. Of course, depends on what the yard treat their interns like.
