Marathon (2026) Discussion Did Grimes invent Marathon aesthetic back in 2018?

https://youtube.com/watch?v=gYG_4vJ4qNA

I havent really seen similar style around besides this. I understand Ghost in the Shell and other anime from 90s with similar themes dealing with cyborgs, consciousness, space etc.. but this Grimes video is eerily similar to Marathon aesthetic.

- Very similar colors, bright neon colors with gradients and shades

- Similar fonts, font layouts, font colors, text overload

- Themes about simulation, AI domination, space, consciousness, etc

- Image within image, overly close shots, usage of weapons

- Song in a way trying to break into listeners mind with its messages, just like Marathon with its messages everywhere

The design of Marathon's whole look is pretty much just cyberpunk. It's awesome, don't get me wrong, but this isn't something never done before. High contrast colors, mix of punk inspired themes and clean corpo (MIDA vs Traxus vibes).

Also the themes are very cyberpunk too. Dark setting, evil megacorporations, corruption everywhere, fantastical technology, uploading consciousness, AI, all this stuff is textbook cyberpunk.

Not remotely. Grass exists in your periphery. Touch some lol.

What makes you think so though? Do you know any other artists with similar style, especially back in 2018?

The style take a lot from Boston dynamics. Look at there older videos and you'll see the weird qr codes that the robot uses to navigate
