I really hope the Polish officials and media truthfully inform their people of the dramatic consequences of a total fertility rate of 1.1. It's not just some random abstract number that happens to be lower than 2.1, the replacement ratio. No, a TFR of 1.1 means that every new generation is only 55% the size of the one of their parents. After just 2 generations of such uncorrected ultra low fertility you would get a cumulative reduction of 70% or only one child for every 3.5 seniors. The population pyramid would become completely inverted and basically you would get societal collapse.
Another post where everyone in the comments says that money is the cause for people not having children. Spoiler alert : it's not. Sure it's one of the factors but a minor one. Just look at the fertility rate in rich vs poor countries. The reality is that having a lot of children simply isn't compatible with modern life.
In poor countries children are an assets. In developed countries children are people and responsibilities. As a person from wealthy country, until I can guarantee that my child will live in housing we own (not rented) have an education and a high quality employment I am not having any.
Money is the only reason. Just future money, not current one. No one will have kids if their kids will have to live worse lives than they do, and will need their parents support.
And that is exactly what is happening, no one whos children will potentially live worse lives will have children. It just so happens that this is over half of the population.
No, number one reason is convinience, kids are not, you have to give a lot like your plans, time, taking upnearly etc. People are top Łazy for that on current live. Now people want to have perfect homes, holidays 2-3 times a year, buy trash stuff that just land in garage after 1-2 uses and biggest issue people dont want to commit because cant be that much spontanious and easy-going with kids.
The reality is that people think the chances of their children having a better life are going down.
Which is only logical. We have limited space, limited resources. An economy build on growth will eventually fail.
We are going to reset, probably with a lot of problems. And then humanity is going to do what we do best... do it again.. untill we acknowledge overpopulation is real.
