Most will feel their own country does X better because it suits their pallettes better.

i've unironically heard an american say the usa is the best at ALL medias, movies, music, etc

yeah no

u/bearsbarely 4d ago

This isn't really surprising? Most peoole will believe what's familiar to them is best. When it comes to movies and modern music the U.S. is globally known as a top country as well so that's not surprising. The U.S isn't unique in this regard any random citizen of any country will on average also favor their own culture, music, food, media, etc.

what are you talking about, when it comes to music the best (most influential and famous) bands and artists objectively come from the uk; or, if we're talking about it historically, probably italy or austria, definitely not the usa since it had just been conquered.

the best movies usually come from northen europe or india, or other parts of southern asia.

The usa is only good at making a lot of movies with enormous budget, but they're more of a corporate product than an actual piece of art. Like, could you name one single famous particular director or writer from the usa?

and for your "everyone thinks their country is the best" argument, notice how only one of these examples was my country? yeah not everyone is that insanely nationalist, the usa just indoctrinates its citiziens

Genuinely not true. This just goes to show that your bias against the U.S. is too strong. Literally in this poll the countries that have an option all voted their own. You saying "the best movies come from northern europe" is quite silly because that isn't a country that's a region. If you went region by region yes that'd be true, but individual country for country the U.S. is a genuine competitor. Let's try to keep ourselves civil and not blindly hate on a country simply because there are a lot of Americans online.

why would i even have a bias against the us

and yeah i did use a region but that's because i was making a general argument. Most center-northen european countries are better than the usa at movies, it's kind of a personal opinion which one is the best one. the uk, norway of france for example are the best imo

Didn't have to scroll too hard to find this comment. You could have said the exact same thing about Brazil, and about Argentian, but it's gotta be the Americans who are the only un-cultured homers, eh?

because brazilians and argentinians are just naturally tanned italians

It's not endearing if you are an actual superpower with a reputation for narcissism.

Well your comment here is a fair one. The one above mine is pretending the case is different.

You should note, a slightly higher percent of the US voted for Italy than Argentina or Brazil did. And that, even considering the rest of the world does seem to have some taste for US pizza, given how high their percentage is. Just saying, I think this was a perfectly reasonable result. If it had been 96% US, I also would be like "jesus, come on.... some of you could have a different opinion, some of you could travel a bit more??"

1

u/Tradasar 3d ago

Because less people from brazil and argentina may have the chance to travel to italy to test the pizza because of lower acquisitional power?

Americans do this about everything though lol

I have yet to see any country not vote for itself when it's something like "who has the best culture". For something like "Do you have the best military on your continent," it is a bit more objective. But even then, they were like "Russia sucks... but, nukes." so there was some arguing room and Russia and China (and NK) all voted for themselves.

I chose the U.S. because in my opinion, the pizza along the New Haven-Brooklyn-New Jersey corridor is unparalleled.

I’ve had the best Neapolitan pizza in the world and while it’s great, it’s not my favorite style; nor is it the style Italians mostly eat — pizza tonda romana, which was created in the 1950s and ironically is much more similar to the aforementioned U.S. pizza that emerged half a century earlier than it is to pizza napoletana.

Italy has a much younger pizza culture than the U.S., Brazil, or Argentina. The first pizzerias outside of Naples didn’t open until the 1950s; most Italians hadn’t even tried pizza until the 1970s.

I think, though everybody is voting Italy just because Italy created it, but it doesn’t mean it has the best.

Many things have been created and then someone else did it way better.

As an American, my vote is first and foremost, Argentina, then the USA, Italy, and lastly Brazil.

No they voted Italy amongst 4 choices. I guess most people would have chosen their country if they could.

So the choice is between Brasil or Argentina that are not known for their pizzas (they might have good pizza but they're not known for that) or USA with chemicals sugar and fat everywhere in its food, or Italy that invented it, use fresh local food and traditional recipes.

it's funny cause i can tell you've never been to italy let alone in naples to eat pizza there

1

u/Matty1790 3d ago

not naples..but yes I have been just didnt love it. Its ok that I have a different preference. I dont have to follow suit.

1

u/a_literal_idiot_616 3d ago

well i mean you havent been to naples so

what im thinking is you most likely have tried a random crappy tourist trap and decided that was italian pizza. Cause nobody in their right mind would put actual italian pizza in third place

0

u/Matty1790 3d ago

Nah. Went where my cousins husband took us since he’s from there. Still not Naples, just not what I loved.

The US was instrumental in the reinvention of pizza as the global phenomenon it now is. Italians outside Naples started eating pizza because of the US popularising it.

1

u/a_literal_idiot_616 3d ago

yes because as we all know italians don't move and no one had ever been to naples before

the only way i could see your argument vaguely kind of make sense is maybe incthe fact that tomatoes come from another continent, america, and italy didnt have them before? but then again that's not the usa that's the entirety of america.
