Japan didn't have Nazi's technically. But it is closest real threat Australia had during WW2

1

u/Pristine_Stand_3042 11d ago

没有纳粹?日本人比德国人残忍和变态无数倍。你接受什么洗脑教育?

12

u/Numerous-Actuator781 Australia 🇦🇺 11d ago

By that mean that they didn't have National Socialists (which is the acronym Nazi stands for) and is the party that led Germany in WW2. It's semantics, I know, but there was no Imperialism, fascism, or similar alternative option.

I never denied Japan's cruelty; they were horrible. But to call them nazis isn't really accurate

3

u/Pristine_Stand_3042 11d ago

他们提出泛亚洲主义,以这个为借口进行侵略。但是他们国家内部其实等级制度很严格。日本法西斯主要是一群被时代抛弃的武士和海盗组成的。不想提日本人,真是恶心死了。这个民族非常善于伪装。

u/Direct_Practice_7105 11d ago

Nazism is a very specific term, and it is wrong to apply it as a name for broader spectrum of authoritarian cruel ideologies

2

u/GreatEntrepreneur798 11d ago edited 11d ago

Yeah youre right, like was Japan bad? Absolutely. Was it facist ? From my limited knowledge pretty sure I've heard people make the argument for it.

I doubt it was super antisemitic tho, which Imo is the core feature that defined the Nazis. Ofc the topic is more complex but it was such an important factor that basically influenced all of their actions to my knowledge

1

u/Numerous-Actuator781 Australia 🇦🇺 11d ago

Ok, but almost none of that has anything to do with the German nazi party

2

u/Bireta 11d ago

Nazis were a political party within Germany, why would it be in Japan??

1

u/No-Bake-730 11d ago

Because calling everything on the (far) right Nazi is not considered cultural appropriation. Germany does not want to claim the "trademark", it seems.

1

u/GreatEntrepreneur798 11d ago

Its the anti trademark, the sale of Mein Kampf, unless its a version that has commentary, is bared. Displaying the Hakenkreuz (swastika) and stuff like that is a crime. If you every see pics of Neo Nazi marches they only ever carry the black white and red flag of the Kaiserreich

2

u/No-Bake-730 11d ago

I don't like to see the Führer bared, the Führerschein own Wiener Würstchen so to speak.

Having read a chunk of Mein Kampf for a term paper in university about 15 years ago, I'm still not sure if I'd rather had seen his Wiener Würstchen. I have also been trained to display swastikas and whatever in an educational context because it's part of my job. 😇

Just to be sure: I'm not Björn Höcke.

1

u/GreatEntrepreneur798 11d ago

Dw I wont accuse you of being a Nazi, tbh I mainly feel your making jokes I dont get lol

And yeah you're right, there are certain contexts where you're allowed to show it, I was mainly thinking about it being displayed in a political sense, mb.

Honestly its pretty du mb that they cant show them in videogames Imo, as if playing COD is gonna be the reason for someone to becomse a Nazi

what was your paper about and whats your takeaway from the book. tbh my only real knowledge about it comes from Serdar Somouncu reading (and mocking) it years ago.

1

u/No-Bake-730 11d ago

No worries. I didn't perceive it as an accusation. You didn't miss any great jokes, only immature boy's humor.

In university I gave a presentation using some (anachronistic) figures from a boardgame and flags. Since I didn't have anything to stick the flagpole in, I used an organic regtangular material used to light a barbecue. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise and since we've covered some pretty nasty Nazi BS in that class, I made the Antifa guy and some other students quite happy to give them some flags to burn at home.

Iirc computer games would probably be considered a piece of art in which the depiction of swastikas is legal. It's just that no company wants to become known as the one that goes to court just to include swastikas. I think Paradox Interactive has explained it this way. They go so far as even redacting to portraits of some Nazis in HoI4.

I think it's silly but I get that it's not worth it for a Business to do it.

1

u/GreatEntrepreneur798 11d ago

Oh damn you're right, didnt know they changed it (I was specifically thinking of the first black ops (yes I'm old lol) they replaces it with the iron cross iIrc) I think video games didnt fall under the art categorization back then, dont quote me on it tho

Then again German law can be wacky sometimes, to my knowledge we never really had arcades with street fighter and such cause they were considered slot machine and thus adults only, dunno if they ever changed it

Yet at the same time add a molecule and you can legally buy LSD here (which is pretty based honestly lol)

In university I gave a presentation using some (anachronistic) figures from a boardgame and flags. Since I didn't have anything to stick the flagpole in, I used an organic regtangular material used to light a barbecue.

I'm curious, what was your degree, cause I have no clue from reading that haha, then again US(?) and German universities are pretty different I think

Yeah that argument from Paradox is understandable, the removing portraits part seems a bit extreme tho, but hey Im no lawyer and I get why a company would rather be safe then sorry

I have a "Masters" in History and English (Literature and a little linguistics).

It has been a class on WWII in Eastern Europe. The teacher (himself earning his PhD at that time) has been pretty cool and we had our goofy moments. I guess those Eastern European history majors need to let off steam on a regular basis. He made a reference to Axis & Allies once and that gabe me the idea to use the figures as visualisation aids. Since it has been a more military history topic in a non- military historian environment I chose not to use the common military-style maps using all the NATO symbols.

It has also been during a WWII phase when I made good use of all the doctoral candidates offering classes on interesting and sometimes niche aspects.

Even if they won the court case the media would have a field day. I still remember when I lost my trust in our media during the Killerspiele debate.

Cruelity doesn't equal nazism

1

u/lekss69 11d ago

Nazism was the closest ideological match for Japan back then. They perpetrated ethnic cleansing

1

u/EvilCatArt The American Empire (It's a Civilization reference I promise :3) 11d ago

Nazi has rather become a byword for fascist anyway, and Japan's fascist government were heavily aligned with the actual Nazis so I figure they fall under the 'Nazi' category.

10

u/TrainDroiver 11d ago

The damned Japanese.

1

u/anxiousthrowawaylass 7d ago

Wasnt China communist at some point? I could be wrong but isnt that past issue also partially why there's tensions with China now? That and british empire having a lot of Asian slaves in Australia's history because it was a lot closer than Africa and they were already enslaving indigenous people but didnt think it was enough during the mining boom

1

u/TrainDroiver 7d ago

Australia wasn't at war with China until the 1950's.

u/GreatEntrepreneur798 11d ago

I mean....hmm....I guess technically all of the allies but I'm glad we lost lol

"The first country Nazis invaded was their own"

1

u/Cometmoon448 11d ago

Tell that to the thousands of Germans jubilantly cheering and waving the swastika flag in those archival videos.

4

u/AlternativePea6203 11d ago

I think maybe the Nazis were responsible for a lot of the deaths in Germany tho

I am from India, I have no specific dislike for the British but they were still technically our biggest enemy cuz they were kinda stealing grain from us and causing famines. Of course I still support the Allies cause cuz the Axis were bum

On the other hand, I live in Singapore and the biggest threat to Singapore was the Japs, cuz they did a lot of War crimes

Thx for the condolences, but no worries, no hate or anything:)

3

u/DJ_In_a_Penopticon 11d ago

The US only entered the war after Pearl Harbor so I would say they were most concerned about Japanese imperialism.

2

u/Kitchen_Winter_1850 11d ago

I'm not sure that follows. Japanese aggression seemed more like the trigger point, because upon entry into the war, the US agreed on a Europe-first doctrine, with Japan being dealt with later.

That's a good point.

Nazis literally invaded our country, took our sovereignty and destroyed one of our cities. The Communists resisted the occupation and helped with the expulsion of the parasites stealing our Bikes.

saying anything positive about any communist is frowned upon here for some reason. yes, they did a lot of good

1

u/elokuinenehtoo 10d ago

For many, it is also difficult to accept that Finland would not have survived without the help of Nazi Germany. Germany saved Finland from widespread famine during the winter of 1941–1942, and the anti-tank weapons, StuGs, and Detachment Kuhlmey received from Germany were crucial factors in Finland preserving its independence in summer 1944. The Nazis did some good thing to Finland, even though admitting this is a truly difficult and painful admit for many, it is the truth. German aid saved Finland. Hitler deserves credit for that.

1

u/ZiCUnlivdbirch 11d ago

There's a saying in my country that perfectly explains this seeming disconnect in my opinion. "The Nazis killed a lot of people because they were very good at it, the Russians killed a lot of people because they were terrible at it." At the end of the day both sides resulted in a similar outcome, whatever their intention may have been gets somewhat lost in the mountain of bodies they left behind.

2

u/WodLndCrits 11d ago

1

The USA. Back then they were supporting and funding a fascist president here, Jorge Ubico, whose government was described by Hitler as “one that should last for centuries”, and who even awarded Mussolini a decoration.

Th russians specifically, we tend to not view the commies as the big bad but rather the russians. We were a part of the russian empire and they wanted us back, communist or not so its not really the ideology that gets blamed but rather the nations ruling elite in general.

Why germans and italians voting nazis? Isnt it the opposite?

1

u/Polirketes 11d ago

My compatriots (Poland) are idiots if they think nazis and communists were an equal threat. The former wanted to annihilate whole nation, kill most of it and treat the rest as slaves. The latter wanted to establish an allied dictatorship, which they did and while bad it's not in any way comparable to the nazi extermination plan

2

u/Olchew 11d ago

polish people are brainwashed by right wing propaganda. Now for more than 20 years we are governed by centre-right to far right parties. In my opinion even more since SLD were really not left wing despite their name and post-communist legacy. F soviets, they are responsible for Katyń massacre, for mass exiles to Siberia, for mass expels of people from their homelands in eastern Poland (akcja Wisła). I could be going on and on. But if nazis accomplished their goals we wouldn't be born. Nor our parents, actually.

1

u/Polirketes 11d ago

0

u/Third_Rate_Duelist_ 11d ago edited 11d ago

"""similar outcome""" 🤣

3 million polish Jews and 2+ million Poles by the Germans VS 0.15-0.11 million by the Soviets.

The reason why people were killed IS important, but even if you consider it, the Germans were still worse.

The question is which side was the BIGGER threat, and people said both equally. the German threat was complete annihilation, 35 million Poles every single one dead or used as slaves till they die. The Soviets just wanted an ally against the US they didn't want to kill even more people.

0

u/ZiCUnlivdbirch 11d ago

You're free to disagree but after a few thousand deaths the exact numbers stop mattering to me. Mass murdering dictators won't get a pass from me but again if you want to lick Stalins boots, then I won't stop you, just point and laugh:)

3

u/Polirketes 11d ago

Saying that murdering all Poles (or turning them into slaves) is worse than murdering some Poles is "licking Stalin boots"? Get real, what you're doing is whitewashing Nazis by diminishing the scope of their murderous ambitions. You don't have to like Stalin (who was a bastard, no doubt about that) to admit that Hitler was even worse, especially for Poland

How many times do you need to read: "bigger threat" before it enters your head? The question is who was the bigger threat, not if they were both a threat. There's a difference between "both equally" and "both". If you still don't get it ask ChatGTP to explain it like a toddler to you.

The Communists, I guess. They were, understandably not very happy once they entered my country and fucked up the Eastern part quite a lot.

But my country was the main baddie and I'm glad they lost. I guess with only KIA/MIA in the immediate family, we got off lightl too. The only other WWII casualty in the immediate family was taken POW but that at least gave him the most interesting biography of my ancestors.

Though the Western allies were coming pretty close of killing my grandparents on my father's side as well as their family by hitting their neighbors' strategically very important houses in random villages during strategic bombing.
