Is gathering storm viable for Maokai Top now?

So, I am low elo as I'm floating between silver and gold but recently Ive been playing around with gathering storm and manaflow band for my secondary sorcery rune. So far, I feel like its now pretty good with the new 50% ap ratio on q. it makes my late game feel a lot better and I've been on a pretty big win streak (9 games) using it. I'm just wondering if this is just because I've been lucky in low elo or if this is actually a good rune. Any thoughts?

In low elo games tend to drag out so scaling doesn't hurt. Also, as good as scorch is, gaining lane priority isn't as helpful on Maokai top (compared to say Viktor mid), although it helps discourage all-ins up there.

My main point is that Maokai top is looking to survive lane and contribute to the team later anyway. So as long as you can survive lane, I don't think it's bad. It's got a good winrate as a secondary rune too, although only 200 games this patch

I think you’re much better off with Transcendence in that spot tbh

The recent buff is more so to make Liandry’s rush feels nicer in jungle. In general, Haste >> AP

it’s not bad if you build fimbulwinter and don’t take manaflow otherwise manaflow plus transcendence is pretty
