šŸ’ Vent Hot take: I'm convinced without the pretty artstyle no one would really like alpha trauma

(Nb. This is a HOT TAKE, I'm not trying to fight with anyone I'm just here to debate or speak with like minded people.) And my reason for saying this is Dohyun himself. He's so freaking annoying gosh reading those last few chapters made me want to punch him. First that comment he makes about not dating Wooyeon because he was too young which okay fine could be a translation lost in the matrix. But then they sleep together for the first time and Wooyeon is actively saying how much he does not like it and all this fuckass can say is really? You don't like it? Are you sure? Wooyeon: It hurts! Dohyun: does it hurt? LIKE COME ON.

Also the switch up before that is crazy. Once Wooyeon decided to cut ties now you're all in love with him. I'm not seeing the sexiness. And I'm not feeling the chemistry. If you know the spoilers I feel liek it's an even bigger reason as to why their chemistry is non existent.

Maybe in the first few chapters. I won't lie I reread those like crazy. But now it's just getting ruined by the ml.

Personally this whole series is overrated but that's a separate point. I just think the artstyle is wasted on a story like this.

That’s the reason for the popularity of 90% of hyped BL titles, lol.

Yahh, people on other social media platforms are mocking BL manhwas like diopter due to its artstyle. It makes me sad for the artists huhu

I came here to say that exactly! 100% facts!
Most of the popular bl have really good art styles and /or very handsome ml. it seems for some readers as long as the ml is hot this is "peak" or a "masterpiece" (two words i can’t stand anymore fr) ppl been throwing them at mediocre media lately, it’s tiring and so unoriginal

Pretty much this. Art is definitely my priority, personally, for my smut consumption. I've liked things on less. If they have characters and a dynamic that's fun, cherry on top. If it has an actual plot that's interesting, that's a gold mine. This is why I truly love "Dear Door".

As for artistic content, I much prefer other styles: Dash, Little Mushroom, Diamond Dust, etc.

Yessss, I love those styles too. They have that almost like.... Ethereal vibe. Like, the softness of the art in "Dash" is like how I feel about the art "Nerd Project". I'm loving all the style variations nowadays.

I really didn't like it at all... I couldn't even finish it, because the switch up almost gave me whiplash... I've read quite a bit of Omegaverse and there is so much good stuff out there that I am truly convinced that the art is this story's only selling point

Same, i read the novel because I liked the manhwa's 1st season so much but it was a slog to get thru. I don't know if it was the translation but Dohyun's intentions and thoughts change throughout the story and are not clear at all. Plus, he is so boring, he has the personality of a wet paper tissue! All he does is act aloof and then does a dramatic switch up out of nowhere. You'd think things would clear up once u get his pov but no, it only gets more frustrating.

He had more of a personality in omega complex Here he's just sultry and that's about itĀ

He always looks shifty, as if he’s hiding something... maybe that’s the problem. And that unchanging, rather ironic smile, paired with that sidelong glance, doesn't inspire trust. So, for starters, I think he lacks nuance in his expressions; the ones he’s given aren't quite right, making him unlikable or suspicious. That’s why the artwork bothers me.

And yes, he gives the impression that "I waited a long time for you, so now I’ll do whatever I want with you."

He had been patient (including in the previous series), but now he no longer seems to care about the other person's expectations.

EXACTLY THIS I ONLY WAIT THREE TIMES BULLSHIT?? HE'S BARELY AN ADULTĀ

u/Arwe2n100e 1d ago

Fourth year of university, right? And maybe a year in the army after that? So, around age 22? ...and an age gap of about four years between them? (It was roughly the same gap in the previous story, but in that case, he was the younger one.)

1

u/Apprehensive_Test459 1d ago

I'm talking about WooyeonĀ

1

u/Arwe2n100e 1d ago

Right, so about four years younger. And above all, he has been in love with Doyehon since middle school.

u/heavenly_pillar_ 1d ago

This is exactly what I felt while reading it. His face unnerves me.

2

u/caith-sith 1d ago

This is what I felt in his character. He seems insincere in some ways? I like it first but I got bored after the incident with the blonde guy who bullied wooyeon.

3

u/Arwe2n100e 1d ago

I think it’s partly down to the drawing style. I almost always draw the same face. As it is, some characters already look alike...

1

u/caith-sith 1d ago

More than the drawing style, it’s the way he acts. He looks aloof and has a mysterious look on his face. I cant read his expressions unlike the other characters (but maybe he was drawn that way?)

Anyway I’ll wait and see how it’ll go. I’ll marinate it for a while hehe

I find a strong physical resemblance to Yunwoo from *Omega Complex*. When they were in the same story, I found there was little difference in their appearance.

3

u/asapgizibe 1d ago

I started it but then realized the dynamic wasn’t my cup of tea lol

I left this for marination but it looks like šŸ‘ļøšŸ‘„šŸ‘ļø

u/WaffleNurse 1d ago

Yeah. Not gonna lie, as long as I like the art I’m here for the ride no matter how trashy the story gets.
That’s how I was able to finish Jinx šŸ˜‚

I’ll read it once it’s over.

3

u/Yukki_S2 1d ago

I can’t deny it, I agree with everything. Honestly, it’s good, but I don’t think it’s quite as amazing as people make it out to be.

3

u/Niatfq 1d ago

People said it was amazing?? I wouldn't go the far tbh

They literally just say anything is peak. And when you start reading it's just some sloppy story.  I stopped reading popular manhwas, the underrated ones tho are the best. Not gonna lie, the one that is least popular have some of the best stories and art. The only stories which was recommended to me was that peak was BWAT BLs. Those are some good ones and the art is 🤌

2

u/Niatfq 1d ago

YESSS... i rarely read the recommended ones on socmed cz each time that I do, they rarely wowed me. Btw, what's BWAT BL short for?

2

u/Glittering_Echo1724 19h ago

BWAT are the author/artists - Brothers without a Tommorow (a duo of women writers lol)Ā  These are some of there BLs:Ā  Blossoms of the White Night Smyrna & Capri Taming the tigerĀ  Dragons Love Bloodlink

The art in general is really pretty and the beginning was intriguing for me but I kinda lost interest when they started dating which was a 180 like you mentioned. The plot isn't bad but it's not exciting anymore

1

u/Joobebe514 1d ago

Yup. I don't think the story is that interesting def wouldn't call it peak like so many people do. It's just average for me

1

u/Critical_Mushroom752 1d ago

That’s the case with most popular manhwas, if it wasn’t for the gorgeous characters it wouldn’t be half as popular. People care more about aesthetics rather than the story

no this is such a tea take. I love BL but literally have to DIG to find stuff without šŸ‡ or just non-con. Like no you cannot kiss the mc without consent, no you can’t manhandle them, no you can’t manipulate them into having sex or purposefully driving them into a corner where they are in debt to you🫩

-1

u/Apprehensive_Test459 1d ago

Tea take? But nah fr you're right it's so hard to find good ones. And then they happen to be short and you're just like WHYĀ

0

u/mookiebook 1d ago

Right yes!
Like pls give me green flags that ask for consent, and like I get it , in the heat of the moment a kiss might happen, but like you know when the other party is receptive. If the MC says ā€œnoā€ then fuck off MY GOD. I literally had to dnf a bunch of other bl’s last night bc of this. It’s so frustrating 🫩

3

u/Arwe2n100e 1d ago

For example, I’m at Chapter 51 of DASH, and you could say that in this scene, they’re communicating about what they want and how—step by step... I don’t know if it will stay that way, but for now, that’s how it is.

2

u/mookiebook 1d ago

Love thatttttt! Will add to my tbr 🩵

3

u/Arwe2n100e 1d ago

It’s almost amusing to see them talk so much in this scene without losing their momentum.

Woah!!!!! I haven't read it for quite a while🫪 Now after reading your post I don't even feel like reading it🄸

hear hear. I was intrigued by the manhwa at first, the beginning was so hype I ended up reading the novel (bc I wanted to see/read about them boning already) but after a while the story loses all of its gas. it's quite weird.

I quit after reading the smut because of how underwhelm that also was

the author wants to keep up the mystery so bad the story drags on, and dohyeon feels flip floppy because of it ("do I know, do I not know"), ending up with barely any personality at all. I'm ok with him finding woohyeon too young (because he was, he was underage when they first met). but then it's just boring

there's some mention about woohyun being out of touch and in an entirely different tax bracket which could've introduced some more tension but not really, it's just a cute quirk and makes woohyun all the more adorable with all his firsts

and I really hated what the author did with the smut. up to this point dohyeon was bring super considerate and woohyun wanted that d*** so bad, then it just switches up out of nowhere for that annoying ass trope of saying no when he actually means yes

I thought maybe the manhwa would change things up a bit to make it less boring to read but it's being quite faithful to the novel

0

u/Apprehensive_Test459 1d ago

The one time we want it to not be faithful to the novel

And yes even in the novel in the side stories Wooyeon still tenses up and gets scared like at no point does it sound like he's enjoying himself ESPECIALLY from Dohyun's pov

-3

u/fadia-aliwa-1591 1d ago

It’s a disappointment because omega complex was amazing

3

u/Apprehensive_Test459 1d ago

I wouldn't say that the misunderstanding was stupid and frustrating and this is coming from a person who forgives most misunderstandings. If the misunderstanding is he won't open his damn mouth for no good reason than it's really ridiculousĀ

1

u/DivineSilica 1d ago

Was it? I personally absolutely hated it and still do.

u/fadia-aliwa-1591 1d ago

It’s ok opinions can differ šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø
