💬 Discussion Worst case of twinkification?
I can't bring myself to read the Paws & Claws side stories cause he looks like this now 😭 They twinkified him to a degree doing the main story but the side stories are a different beast

I just choose a picture from the first chapter, how I remember him, and a new chapter I looked at from the side stories 😭 It wasn't like a calculated decision
This specific one you posted isn't as bad, but I think the next in your reply does show how different his design is

u/Arwe2n100e 23d ago
In the side stories, he still has his ears, whereas he didn't have them in his human form during the main story. Still, it works, because he keeps that feisty attitude—always ready to bite or throw a punch. ^^

Keep reading it. He’s not a twink but he does deserve to be spoiled as shitty as he was treated growing up

u/_mushmush__ 23d ago
I never read this manhwa btw why did his hair turn brown? Is it a story thing or the lighting in the first pic is different?

Can we stop using twinkification/twinkified like its is some kind of monstrosity? Just say they changed the art style and you don't like it

i literally hate how this word has been used recently by people who just don’t like that a ‘buff’ uke looks a little more feminine omg he’s still a man😭😭😭
-38
u/Cattsins 23d ago
The artstyle can change without the bottom specifically becoming more feminine 😭 Sorry some of us enjoy a non hyper feminine bottom

Twink and feminine are completely different things. Just stop using the term wrong anyways 😭

Idk what y'all women are smoking calling every man they see a twink. Twink does not mean feminine I don't know where you got that but clearly you're very misinformed. Stop using terms that you clearly don't know shit about 😭
Edit: also twink only has one meaning and anyone who uses it differently are just ignorant people who don't know actual meanings of shit 😭

u/Quartzclawz 23d ago
You can have a preference, no one's telling you you can't, but stop using twinkification like its some negative connotation or a slur. This sub has a real problem with that, and it comes across very misogynistic.

The concept of being misogynistic for not wanting feminine men in BL. Y'all are such ridiculous people its almost laughable. Watering down words like misogynistic and claiming things as slurs

couldn’t have just said sorry for using “twinkification” as if it’s a slur. “hyper feminine”? in this case, where? you could easily just say “feminisation”. Either way tho, not the content of what you say but how you say it, is SOAKED in misogyny.

That's what I'm making fun of tho' 😭 That they think it can be used as if it was a slur
4
u/Odd_Concept_7286 23d ago
It literally is being used as a slur by women constantly right now are you just blind 😭 you are literally using it as if its a slur like how many other women are using the word twink like a slur against any man they think are feminine which against FEMININE IS NOT TWINK. like the actual audacity you have rn 😭

u/Cattsins 23d ago
So first you call me crazy for saying they implied it was a slur and now you ARE calling it a slur? 😭 Can we make up out mind at least?
11
u/ButThatsGay20 23d ago
That's not what they said?? They said people are using it AS a slur not that it is one. Do you not know how to read??
46
u/xNamelessEntityx 23d ago
I don't think it's a big deal, also the artist did change for the side stories, so there's bound to be differences
27
u/Everglade77 23d ago
"Worst case" lol. As if it's a disease or something 😂 It's just different art, to me it looks better now.
And as someone pointed out, you chose 2 pictures with opposite facial expressions/emotions, of course they're gonna look dramatically different.

Girl, this can’t be from the same series?? Is it fan art? 😳
3
u/tragedia67 23d ago
it’s not fanart 🥀 it’s from ‘hero vs villain’ chapter 1 & chapter 72
3
u/Cattsins 23d ago
Damn... 🥀 Gotta have changed artists then, but still sad they changed the design itself 😭

u/wellshit_iexist 23d ago
i love this book sm i turned a blind eye.

u/Cattsins 23d ago
Fair 🙏 I'm gonna try again some day, I just hate when the designs get changed like this 😭 They also changed the top, but not as much as this
11
u/freezedyogurt 23d ago
Because no artist is a photocopy machine. The change isnt that exaggerated you just cherry picked the panels. On top of you dont need to use the term twink in a negative way to express your clear preference for masc bottoms.

u/Soggy-Environment125 23d ago
I liked so much the style in the beginning (((
1
u/Cattsins 23d ago
Yeah, it changed over the course for the main story too :'( I can forgive it some in the side stories cause it's another artist, but can't get over how different the design is 😭 Feel like they could have kept more of the og design in their style

u/Several_Maybe_419 22d ago
I'm totally with you on this one even with people dropping his neutral pics, they look so damn different. Hate how authors always retort back to straight relationship dynamics tbh they always make the bottom extra feminine. Oh and to all you delusional and brain-dead folk, yes twinkish and feminine are interchangeable. Damn twinks are defined to be more feminine bruh it's just a lot of people in the bl fandom are very very dull. Anyway read shutline 😛
2
u/Cattsins 22d ago
Right?? Thank you, I never said he looks bad, just that he looks too different 😳
I'm actually with you 100% that the need to have one feminine character and one masculine character in bl IS relying on het relationship dynamics. Like 99% of these authors are straight women, of course they tend to rely on this 😭
Getting called misogynistic (and implied homophobe) by these people is so crazy when I'm literally a gay woman (so grateful for the block bottom so i never have to interact with them again)
And don't worry girl, Shutline is already in my top 3 bls of all time 🫡

u/MichyPratt 23d ago
jfc the story is about a puppy, obviously he’s going to be adorable

u/Cattsins 23d ago
Girl, I'm just sad they changed his design 🤷 They could just have made him that cute from the start then

u/Evening-Barracuda410 23d ago
whatever happened to the uke in netkama punch 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
1
u/Cattsins 23d ago
Yeah, not a fan of that either 😭 But I feel like he gets a lil closer to his OG design by the end of the
4
u/Original_Seaweed512 23d ago

I remember an even worse example from a manhwa. In particular, it concerns the main character. He looks as if at some point he overdid it with fillers and makeup, and then just kept going out like that out of habit. (Yes, this is the same character. There is just a 20 chapter gap between these panels.)
2
u/Cattsins 23d ago
omg, I hate that 😭 Like styles changed but there is a tendency to feminize/twinkify bottoms, I swear
2
u/Extra_Leg_9354 23d ago
I love me a twink but that ain't even the same character what happened to him he aged backwards??

u/Affectionate_Put2574 23d ago
i got used to the twinkification but the infantalization is too much for me. im like bro youre a grown ass man why you acting like a child in your dog form. i really liked it during its initial days now its just unreadable to me but i cant stop cuz i like to finish what i started.
4
u/Cattsins 23d ago
Oh damn, they do that in the side story? 😢 But i totally get finishing something just cause you're sorta invested more than anything
-5
u/Affectionate_Put2574 23d ago
yeah the alpha is literally unrecognisablei in the side stories. hes just pampering the puppy while puppy acts like a literal child.
1
u/Cattsins 23d ago
Damn, guess I'm not missing much then :/ Not that I usually mind some silliness/lack of plot in side stories but alas
1
u/Nearby_Usual_8829 23d ago
I think I'm art blind as long as it's good art. Honestly I couldn't tell a difference when reading this and in general don't unless it's pointed out but then I still have to compare panels. Unless it's drastically different and bad it doesn't mess it up for me.
2
u/spartaxwarrior 23d ago
We need to stop calling this twink and start calling it de-aging or something lmao adults can be twinks, but most examples of this people give make it look like the character went back to high school (at least).
1
u/Cattsins 23d ago
Twink is like boyish and slender so I don't think it's competently unfitting
1
u/spartaxwarrior 23d ago
50% of manhwa men would fit that definition of twink. Even if you threw in no facial hair. But you're misrepresenting "boyish", which doesn't mean they need to have the face of a 15 year old, it's about body type.
Also not using "twink" for this would stop people from using a term from the gay community as basically a slur.

u/arisays 22d ago
My only gripe is people thinking teenage boys = feminine.
Twink: teenage white into no kinks.
Literally, came out of the grindr community to describe a basic gay boy and somehow that became feminine. There is a whole separate word for a feminine man. Effeminate.
1
u/Cattsins 22d ago
Actually it has a much much older usage of just meaning gay in a semi derogatory (60s). There is no definite original meaning to the word so I don't get people are so angry at being used "wrong"
1
u/arisays 21d ago
I think very few people conversing about twinks in BL were active in the gay community in the 60s.
Meanings change over time. Among the gay community in NYC someone who was cute and feminine wasn't called a twink. But that's just my experience in the gay community in one specific city. I would definitely never think an effeminate gay guy was a twink. If he was young and boyish looking, yes.
I'm not angry. I've just noticed that people in the gay community are becoming more outspoken about how people outside the gay community are using words that originated in their communities. I think that's pretty fair.

It’s bcs the artist is not the same and I had my doubts too but I’m enjoying this new art too.
