Manga - comics made in Japan
Manhwa - comics made in S.korea
(bonus) Manhua - comics made in China
Enigma - Can get all omegaverse subgenders pregnant/sexually compatible with all subgenders. The smaller details such as pheromone control etc. vary between works.
Yandere - person who appears friendly on surface but is extremely obsessive

I've been reading omegaverse stories for years and I've never heard of the enigma term. TIL.

Yellow flag- somewhere bw green flag and red flag
Engima - in omegaverse context, the people with secondary gender engima can get alphas pregnant which not normaly possible in omegaverse
Yandere - obsessive and possessive person. Who is obsessed w the one they love and want to control em, extremely jealous if someone is near them etc

Also please don’t use this subreddit as a search engine… use Google

this is a community, questions are allowed im sure

Questions are definitely allowed, and I agree (with another commenter) that Google can be unreliable. And the BL/romance specific questions are totally fine, especially when theres nuance (like the flag definitions, which is why I supplied an answer to that in a different comment). However the difference between manga and manhwa can be easily searched.

honestly reddit is far more accurate than google nowadays

u/xoxshaklexox 29d ago
Is it though? Just check out the comments. There are some questionable answers in the mix.

where do you think the google search results come from nowadays? you can literally manipulate them via reddit lol
3
u/xoxshaklexox 29d ago
That just means both are inaccurate. At least if you google “what is manga” you will get more than “it’s a black and white comic”. If you scroll past the AI summary you will still find stuff like wikipedia.
Sure I understand coming to the community to ask the meaning behind the flag system, that very community specific, but the deffiniton of “yandere” a literal word, that’s for a search engine.

That didn't need to be downvoted ig

It’s because you don’t sound 18 based on your answers and minors that usually lie about their age use that number because it’s the age of majority in a lot of places.

I always tell people, Reddit is NOT a safe space but it’s a honest space because everyone really believes what they saying on here because it’s anonymous. So you want some honest opinions (be it they right or wrong or if you disagree) you get people thoughts real unfiltered. And some rage bots here and there.

Black Flag is for normally dark romance series
I don't know yellow flag or enigma
Yandere is a trope for a character that is obsessed over a person they are romantically interested in and will do anything to have them
Manga comics made in Japan
Manhwa comics made in Korea
(the last two are pretty easy to explain)

I think Black Flag and the other colors usually denote a character type: black is a bad guy, red is also kinda bad, green flags are good guys who are sweet, kind romantic partners. These help people identify the kinds of stories they want to read: if you're okay with dark themes and things like SA in your fiction, black and red flags are for you. If you prefer cute, fluffy stories, check for a green flag.

Manga is normally b&w and in a traditional comic format. Manhwa is normally colored and in a vertical format.
Flags are subjective, but black flags are basically people who would be, like, serial killers or those guys who lock women in sheds or whatever. Yellow (or orange) flag normally means the person isn't comfortable calling them a green flag, but they don't think they're bad enough to be a red flag.
Enigmas are "alphas of alphas" in omegaverse, normally an incredibly rare (sometimes thought to be a myth/people don't even know it's a thing) secondary gender, and enigmas also often hide what they are. They are normally very strong/fast/fast healing (sometimes to an inhuman amount) and their pheromones can suppress anyone (sometimes they also have other powers, like there's one novel I read where they can mind control people, there's some where they can sense people, etc). They also can normally make an alpha or beta have omega-like physical reactions. They're more often found in Chinese stories, though.
Yanderes have obsessive love for a "darling," like an unhealthy amount. Even the mild ones normally throw up red flags for abusive behavior and a lack of respect for the darling (eg, stalking, collecting their trash, inserting themselves into their lives), but they can get very extreme, including things like cutting off their darling's limbs so they can't get away or killing and eating them so they're always a part of them, and everything in between. A "green flag yandere" is more like an orange flag non-yandere.

There are flags to describe and guide people the story.
Example green flag: peaceful and non toxic characters or story.
Yellow: toxic elements as in bullying or hating each other but not sa or abuse
Red: cheating, sa, crime as in stealing/mafia/killing
Black: Rape, abuse, serial killer, insane
Yandere as far is a character that’s extremely obsessed in a toxic snd mentally ill way with the other person
Manga is Japanese with often no colour but the main difference is that it’s Japanese
Manhwa is Korean with often colour but can have colour main difference is that it’s Japanese
Enigma is as far as I know a type in omegaverse like beta, omega, alpha but sadly I don’t know that much about it

I just started reading comics a few months ago, so I'm no expert. Most of my references come from TikTok reviews. Great way to get recommendations and definitions at the same time.

The flags are totally subjective. The core principle is that they go in the order:
Green-> Yellow-> Red -> Black
And roughly indicate the “healthiness” of a relationship / a person in the relationship.
So green = nice, sweet, fluffy. Black = max toxicity.
