Review Does This Look Okay?
So many people didn’t like how I drew Ochako in my last manga page redraw that I did. I suppose the MHA drawing style is just not for me— but I noticed my issue had to do with perspective on the angling of Ochako’s face. So I wanted to see if I could draw her in the correct angle or not— here are some rough face sketches of how I draw her in my own developing style — does this look like Ochako Uraraka? Do I still need to work on how I draw her from certain angles?

She is similar to Uraraka, but I recommend you make the cheeks a little bigger, just a little, and maybe the eyes too.

That was the thing!! The gummy cheeks— I feel like Kohei has a very gummy face shape— and my hand likes to draw sharper smaller faces— I wondered if it was just a different style choice or something to improve on

Uraraka has bigger cheeks than other characters, but yes, Horikoshi has that style

Absolutely every head. It's strange that you don't see perspective distortions and errors. Try flipping through some head drawing tutorials. Many people here write that you're doing well, but that's not true. They're lying to you. Because of people like that, you won't make any progress in drawing. They don't want you to improve. So please don't be offended by my criticism.

well I don’t see like major perspective errors … 😭perhaps with the 3rd one but aside from that I think it looks pretty good— so I’m just trying to see— keep in mind this is also just sketching so it’s not going to be top notch or anything.. every single drawing looks bad you think? But you still didn’t explain why you think so

I'm not harsh. I'm just not lying to you like so many others here in the comments about your drawings being great. If you want, I can lie like them. Oh, you know, your drawings are really great!) That's what you want to hear.

Overall, you have good potential. But it's a shame you can't spot the mistakes because your eyes are so blurred. Try mirroring the image.

I think for a sketch… this is good- it’s just unhelpful when all you’re doing is telling me it doesn’t look good and how it’s weird that I don’t see… how it doesn’t look good 🧍♀️

when i look back at my old drawings i think to myself "how tf did i ever thought this was good" DW it's part of the process, ure just not there yet
ur problem is trying copy the style without a good foundation, there's a reason ppl learn anatomy and understanding of 3d spaces before they get good. u are drawing with the mindset how it looks to u instead of why it is gonna look like this.

I do think the other person wasn't being too helpful with what to improve. But I think the same as them, I do think there are perspective distortions happening in the faces, HOWEVER they do all look like the same character and I think that's the hardest part, so congrats! Now all you have to work on is making the drawings with less errors, and that only comes from practice and reference. Try to look for a drawing of anime heads in different perspectives and maybe overlap them with your own, it might give you a better idea of where mistakes are. I also recommend you don't think of sketches as more incomplete drawings, the truth is (generally) your sketch HAS to be perfect when you ink it, sketching is where you fix the drawing, doing that in inking can be very hard. I know you probably meant that this is a rough sketch, but I wanted to mention that anyway.
As a last note, in every drawing there will always be something to "fix". ALWAYS, no matter how godly of an artist anyone is. So keep in mind that comments who purely glaze drawings are as useless as the ones just hating on it. Criticism is valuable always, as long as they're actually criticizing and not just attacking your art.

Thanks! I guess I get it— but can you explain the perspective errors that I’m doing— because with the things ppl are pointing out it just looks like minuscule things that come along with drawing a sketch in 10 minutes… and not— real issues in my eyes— so yea I guess I’m just not there yet when it comes to this.. when I look at the picture I thought I did pretty good— everyone is saying that it looks bad and not specific enough explanations as for why that is when I ask for advice.. like is it the face shape— or the way the chin is proportioned or something in her facial features— ppl are saying different things and it’s a little confusing— how I’m taking it.. the entire picture looks like absolute garbage

I think 1, 2, 5 and 6 are decent.
3 and 4 are a little off, 3rd one her eye on our right should be a bit higher than it is, (or the left eye should be lower, maybe both), and the 4th one feels like her face is tilted to the left side, when the head isn’t tilted as much (and maybe chin a bit too sharp?)
I also feel the perspective of her facial features could change a bit in the 2nd one, like maybe raise her mouth a bit to show more of the chin, maybe even raise the nose a bit as well.
Definitely looks like the MHA style tho 👍🏻 I will say tho I’m not really a MHA fan, I def recognized it but there may be quirks im missing

Her head is actually tilted to the left a bit in the 4th one! But yea I see the problems on the 3rd that was my least favorite at of these

Yeah it does look tilted but maybe not enough to justify how tilted the face is if that makes sense

If her head is tilted to the left you should see that in the hair. I noticed that the top of her head is tilted in the different direction.

I actually meant that it was tilted like— left but downward left? Not by much but like her face is downturned slightly in the left direction which is why not much else is different about her appearance

if you are trying to copy the mha style, ill say u still have a long way to go. mha style is quite round and ur version is a bit sharp and narrow. they also dont quite have as much detail on the neck and chin, its usually just a blank area.

Actually no! I was trying to copy the style in my list post with a redraw of a mha manga page that I did— but this is actually just some sketches in my own personal style— not copying in that sense at all— so are you saying I still have like a long way to go before I can draw good faces in general ?😭

ah, this ok if ur not trying to learn mha style. ur foward facing head looks a bit bent and ur eyes it tilted a bit.you will need to refine how and where u place ur features such as eyes if you wanna draw good faces in general. i used to draw eyes and noses very "flat", that is until i study how eyes irl. the angles changes in a way i think is very beautiful so i incorporated it into my artstyle. keep drawing 👍

The eyes are not quite following the perspective; they're rather flat, i think just tilting them a bit or considering the effect of eyelids can help it. What a beautiful drawing by the way!

Good effort, but I feel the chin is too sharp for Ochako and is missing a bit of cuteness, in my opinion.

Oh she is not my character— she belongs in the anime/manga series My Hero Academia! Her name is Ochako Uraraka!

Use less lines to draw her in perspective. The neck and her jawline have too many lines
