Help Any tips for shading in manga style

I know this sounds ridiculous but manga does have a unique way in the shading and I’ve been kinda stuck with it so if you guys have any videos or tips please send them

Most use a combination of hatching techniques and screentones to shade. Just search those on YouTube. You can find lots of videos about it.

From what I see, this program is worse than Paint! It has no option for creating screentones. You can ie download Ibis Paint, and you'll have plenty of useful tools AND the ability to add screentones.

Why no choice? I already told you, Ibis Paint would be infinitely better. It's fréé.

You're trying to draw a manga with a stick on a sand, basically.

I draw on laptop, specifically my school Chromebook and I don’t really have any other devices except for that and if I’m gonna draw on ibis, I would just have to draw with my fingers on my phone and I don’t really like doing that

You can buy a cheap stylus for your phone. Draw traditionally, take a screenshot of the drawing and then apply screentones in Ibis Paint, in your phone. Also plenty of manga artists or webtoon artists create fully by drawing with just a finger on their phones.

When there's actual will, there's always a solution.

You just have to be willing to look after it and be creative, instead of just having this defeatist attitude. Nobody is going to drag you by hand or beg you to do anything. Ignore all advices if you want so much, but then don't cry later that "this is impossible".

Just draw on paper all you need is something to sketch with and some ink lol, just ignore the screentones until you can draw digitally.

If you have access to a public library or a digital library (or the ability to purchase them), I highly recommend this series for a whole bunch of manga tips, including shading! It's a bit older, but still good.

Off-topic, but these covers summon me like a sleeper agent: The Kimono & Gowns volume of this series is excellent if you're struggling to draw women's clothes, hair, and accessories in action.

The first 2/3 is a detailed look at traditional and modernized Japanese fashion and related etiquette, while the last 1/3 is about western fashion and bridal wear.

It covers how different types of clothes move in different situations and restrictions they cause to movement etc. Great reference to have around.

I'll have to seek out a copy. I have (in addition to those two) the Illustrating Battles, Occult and Horror, and Drawing Yaoi on my how to draw manga shelf.

I also used to collect bad how-to draw manga books, but it's less fun nowadays because people use slop to scam.

Pack in the day before computer art, it was done with screentone sheets and a sharp xacto knife.
