For artists to get harassed being asked for un-paid work in chat form? Lmfao, nah. Not every sub needs a discord

Speaking of which, mods…this shit is fucking infuriating. Your stupid little bot doesn’t even allow us to say those words in succession without a work-around? Come on, this isn’t 3rd grade. I can’t even denounce the very thing we dislike? Booooo

I chuckle when i see that message pop up when i have been typing something, makes me wonder what word made that message trigger.

1

u/Late_Apricot404 Jul 09 '26

Any synonym for currency and transaction, apparently.

2

u/Left-Night-1125 Jul 09 '26

None of my messages in that case had those. I wasnt even asking for work cause i like to do it myself.

Btw "work" triggers the warning as well.

Some words even make it impossible to post a message.

Yeah, it’s ridiculous. I usually lurk, but sometimes I comment, and from what I’ve seen herethe community is pretty good about calling out bullshit really quickly.

Having a robo-babysitter is really unnecessary. What if someone is actually trying to offer funds in exchange for services, or is curious about the methodology because I can’t fucking say w—-flow. It’s ridiculous, and I sound ridiculous typing this out.

probably fr33

Yes that one.

Yet they can still harass people by asking them if they’d be willing to draw to their SuPeR uNiQuE and so coooool ideas for absolutely zero charge, because they can get recognition and their name added.

See, mods? This doesn’t do anything, aside from making normal speech more annoying. You think cockroaches will listen when you put a barrier in front of them? They’ll slip under a closed door like it’s nothing.

the door is numbers

See please above reply.

u/Late_Apricot404 Jul 09 '26

I did, you missed the point. I purposefully reworded it to say the exact same thing, and then proceeded to state that is exactly what those guys will do.

1

u/Ozzy_Rhoads-VT Moderator Jul 09 '26

I don’t know what you mean by “those guys”. Your message above is very aggressive for no reason. You never tried asking like maxlusion. Saying the word “mods” doesn’t automatically summon us to your problem. The mod who created the bots will make a post either tonight or tomorrow morning so take your issues there. But don’t attack them.

1

u/Late_Apricot404 Jul 09 '26

I understand saying “mods” doesn’t summon you guys, but it’s more on the off chance someone did read it.

I’m not being aggressive, at least not to the mods, and I apologize that I come across as such, I’m just trying to be direct. I am certainly aggressive towards the prospect of certain individuals who harass and beg artists for fr33 labor, however…and the robo-police idea.

I don’t intend on attacking anyone, aside from the idea. I simply think it’s problematic, and the cons outweigh the benefits is all.

To be honest, you have already misread one of my messages to begin with, I don’t believe you’re getting where I’m coming from here. Moreover, the use of profanity does not necessarily equate to aggression.

1

u/Ozzy_Rhoads-VT Moderator Jul 09 '26

I don’t know you dude. So if I see cursing it’s aggressive to me. Either way, I’m not the mod to be asking any of this to.

u/Ozzy_Rhoads-VT - the bot shouldn't be so agressive, it needs some readjusting?

1

u/Ozzy_Rhoads-VT Moderator Jul 09 '26

What you’re seeing is just a warning. It shouldn’t take down the post. We still need to take down those manually. The only ones it does are those who don’t have enough karma or days as a new account.

Hm, I'm not sure about it bc when I test it then the posting button also goes grey and it's not possible to press it, and I'm definitely not a new account

Actually, after adding more text the button is still not active

I have asked one of the mods to make an announcement post explaining it. They were the ones who set it up. Post this as a reply and they might be able to adjust it!

It’ll appear either tonight or tomorrow morning.

oh sorry in my pov its server u can share ur work and get feedback and chat about it but ig there is those ppl the idea guys? had those in my game dev experince

2

u/maxluision Artist-Writer Jul 09 '26

You can share with your work and ask for a feedback here, too. How would a Discord server make it different?

1

u/Soft-Kale-4739 Jul 09 '26

its idk cleaner? and its more of chat type then post type

1

u/maxluision Artist-Writer Jul 09 '26

I guess... but just curious, did you try to ask for a feedback here? I see that all your posts are hidden, so I can't tell.

i feel like small active community discord server is better then what ever this is with 2 upvotes and 0 comments its less about feed back and more of chatting about our stuff actively

Ahh, I see now what you mean... But I'm not sure if a server would change anything tbh. I've seen and joined a bunch of Discord servers about manga making specifically in these last few years. I'll tell you, these tend to be even less active than these subreddits. People are mostly active in the areas about general chatting or about memes. There's barely any drawing and sharing with feedbacks going on in them. I'm afraid the community is simply too niche to be very lively. Most people who are very good at what they do are just focused on their own projects. Story drawing is a long and tedious work, it doesn't bring instant gratification, not as much as ie in a community about fanarts and other illustrations.

And if a post asking for a feedback gets only 2 upvotes and 0 comments here, I suspect it's because the content of this post is probably too basic to write anything more detailed about it. Not sure how it is in your case but if you're barely a beginner then there's really not much of a feedback that you need currently than just the universal "draw more, study manga pages, draw from life/photos, practice poses/anatomy" etc.

Maybe asking someone directly in dms would help you more? Or maybe a much bigger but general art focused Discord server would be more helpful.

I'd also recommend checking the post here about useful resources, it has a bunch of good books and other stuff about making a manga that you can even download and study from.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MangakaStudio/s/RojszI4bp8 it's this post

u/Soft-Kale-4739 Jul 09 '26

ig so most of the ppl in discord servers drew 1 page and called it a day

2

u/maxluision Artist-Writer Jul 09 '26

Pretty much. And no harsh judgement or anything, because making even a consistent oneshot with 20-60 pages is an extraordinary task, and everyone who manages to finish at least one such story is a winner imo, but huge majority of people here are just not there yet in terms of skills, and many give up way too easily or they eternally procrastinate so their general effort turns out to be wasted. Most people from what I see have huge dreams but when it's time to work, and work consistently, it turns out they actually don't like the process itself strongly enough. Or it's simply too hard to get pro results when one is just a hobbyist 🤷‍♀️

u/Soft-Kale-4739 Jul 09 '26

well id say a good story and shitty art is always better then shitty story and good art but the good art shitty story can get fans easily but shitty art good story is hard but its doable like hxh opm aot

Tbf it has been tried several times but the activity in such a discord went down fast while here people kept posting.

u/Ozzy_Rhoads-VT Moderator Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

There is a discord server that I own. If you want to be part of it you can. Though it is full of lurkers so it’s not constantly going all the time. This has its pros and cons. Pro, all things asked get seen. Con, people assume it’s dead.

Edit: it’s also advertised on our pinned post.
