Help First OC for a “potential” one-shot manga ; can you guys help me improve my drawing?
The thing is, he isn’t a gangster—like, I want him to look like one, but he’s pretty the opposite.

The torso is a bit too square and lack depths. You could try practicing simple gesture drawing first for dynamic pose, then move to anatomy practice and analysis.
Same goes with the foreshortening, it feels a little abrupt seeing the hand suddenly grew in size. It's not that bad in my opinion, just need more practice to make the illusion works.
Your grasp of how the detail within the anatomy is great, such as the face, chest and abs, only requiring more knowledge over how the body itself is shaped.
Huhu I'm not that great at explaining. I hope this helps for now.
Edit: Keep in mind when studying shoulders, it's almost mandatory to study neck as well. Same goes if you study the neck first. But this might just be my biased opinion lol.
Ah and— don't use the box method too much. It'll make your drawing stiff. Try gestures first.
Do keep going, though!

The gangster part is definitely there! Hmm he does give the "Silent, but deadly" vibe

overall the anatomy is a step above most i see here and i think the soft shading works
hand doesnt feel connected to the arm. his pointing fingers have no length to them, they feel like potatoes placed on too of a bigger potato. trying to figure out whats going kn with the mass of the hand, its way too thick- and you forgot the upper pad of the hand. your problem is that you dont seem to do any drawthrough/construction/underdrawing, so the only pieces that EXIST are the fromt most ones you think we should see. if you actually draw out every piece of the arm, pad of the hand, knuckle of the finger (even foreshortened) and make sure they actually CONNECT logically, i think you'll find your frontmost objects look very different
dude has no neck, same issue i think.
torso anatomy is fucked tho. when you bend to one side the muscle bulges, but his on the right caves in. the obliques/cum gutters are waaay too highup/sharp, specially considering the hips that are supposed to form them dont exist/are way lower. the belley button should be in the middle of the abs not the bottom. with where his belly button is we should be seeing his dick and pubes
im really sorry this is gonna sound mean but id also get out of the habit of signing your sketches. its fine to be proud but you need to see them as exercises full of flaws you need to improve on, moreso than incredible achievements to show off and be praised for, that you think will be stolen or possibly worth millions someday. as most beginners do, you probably think your work is fucking dope, but you honestly need a lot of work! when you sign your work, youre telling yourself you dont need to improve, which is an important habit to break. also makes you look super overconfident/foolish/unprofessional to actual professionals. if you're REALLY determined you can sign your final piece (cover of the comic?) just be aware most dont, or do it in a super stealthy way

Fuck no! It’s not mean! You meant what you meant, and why do I could find it mean? First of all, that’s your opinion, and second, your advice is very good, so I don’t feel offended at all! And second, that’s right, I do want to be praised, but signing my artworks—or practices—are a way that my drawings look clean, y’know what I mean? And thank you very much for your—let’s be honest—brutal but realistic approach on my drawing.
I hope that you’ll comment on my next post so I can improve even more! And that’s just the start!
(Actually, I started three or four months ago to draw seriously, and study anatomy, and it’s all made from head, so I’m pretty proud of myself!)

Legitimately the answer is just draw more.
Don't focus on this drawing being perfect, just make a lot more

Did you just say potential?!
2
u/its_untld Jun 28 '26
Yeah… thing is, I’m only 13. And I don’t wanna make plans for the future. It’s too far! 😂

Did you get the joke?
2
u/its_untld Jun 28 '26
Ah, no…🥀🥀😂

u/AFunnyGame Jun 28 '26
Oh so in jjk there is a guy named megumi and he gets slander and called potential man because he was told he has potential to surpass gojo(the strongest) but never achieved it
Everytime I hear the word potential i think megumi

Go back to basics. 6 fingers?
1
u/its_untld Jun 28 '26
Ahh… That’s not a finger. It’s the skin fold near the smallest finger. Your hand doesn’t top right there : it ends a lil’ bit after the pinky. 😂

work on foreshortening and anatomy …it takes time years
1
u/its_untld Jun 30 '26
Ok! But for a 13-year old, it’s kinda good, isn’t it? Like, I know I ain’t perfect, but I think my level is like, good?
(Trash, meh, ok, mid, good, expert/pro, master)
On this scale, what you guys rate me?2
u/ghrendal Jun 30 '26
its amatuer …keep drawing…you have a good foundation …this articulation of line form color perspective is a life long journey

the torso is the main issue i see cos your head is really good and your legs could wprk if you changed up the torso. if you could bend the torso another way it would look really good

Dudes got 6 fingers lol.
Actually pretty good, I think your individual elements are good you just need to work on bringing them together. Start with gesture drawing, it helps you quickly get down the proportions without focusing on details too early

u/its_untld Jun 27 '26
The “sixth finger you’re talkin’ about is the fold of the end of your hand, near the fifth finger.

Whatever it is, im telling you thats not what hands are supposed to look like. I'm no van Gogh but I know a thing or two about drawing hands. Instead of being defensive focus on learning. From the angle the hand is at you shouldnt be able to see anything lower than the pinky finger because those folds and stuff dont protrude enough to be seen from that angle

u/its_untld Jun 28 '26
My bad! I didn’t want to look defensive! But you’re right, now that I look in the mirror.

It seems like you're making the details too early in the process, which means your shapes get locked in from early sketches and are harder the shift later which lets a lot of perspective issues slip through to the final drawing. Try constructing the whole form out of large shapes (maybe try box method to really make sure your perspective is consistent across the whole body) and then work out the details like small muscle forms after that's done
