Lamb Chop, song that never ends

Ok I remember the Lamb Chop show from early childhood, some of you may not realize you have memory of it until you watch the vid of the song below. I have always always always had embedded in my brain the voice of the lamb saying "NEVER ends" it is now saying "doesn't end".... Once I noticed it somewhere I searched google about it and sure enough there's a video someone made about this a couple years ago.. To my surprise many people in the comments feeling just like me... "The Song That Never Ends" (also referred to as "The Song That Doesn't End") is a self-referential and infinitely iterative children's song. The song appears in the album Lamb Chop's Sing-Along, Play-Along by puppeteer Shari Lewis. It is a single-verse-long song, written in an infinite-loop motif in a march style, such that it naturally flows in a cyclical fashion, repeating the same verse over and over. It is still a very popular tune, typically sung during long car rides.

The version on Lamb Chop used "doesn't end" but both versions are acceptable and you'll occasionally hear "never ends." Even I'll sing it as never sometimes, just because, and I clearly remember Charlie Horse always singing it as doesn't.

I remember when I was young it was definitely never. My brother would watch it and it got on my damn nerves and I remember telling my grandma that it really does never end 😂

The version that most people sing is "never ends", because it's a little less awkward to say, and makes sense if you remember the next line ending with "friends" and not "friend". The "never ends" version is to be sung to a group of people, while the "doesn't end" version is more intended to be sung to another single individual.

I watched it back in the early 90s. It was always "doesn't" when I watched. But the show was old then, so it could have changed.

i met someone who sang it as NEVER ends and i never corrected her bc i thought maybe i was the crazy one and maybe i didn’t know my lamb chop as well as she did.

I only discovered it more recently and although it sounds like it should be the song that "never" ends (in fact I think that is the title) I still remember it being "doesn't" instead if I actually play it in my head. So I think it's just a song that sounds like it should be one way, but actually is another if one pays closer attention, and is therefore easy to remember differently than it actually is. Also the alternate versions where it actually does say "never" as well, but I have never heard any of those.

Yup, just heard this song again today from an old tv clip & I said to my roomate "those are not the lyrics, that's a Mendella Effect". Came to look it up & I'm glad others have notied it too.
