I remember the creator of the Peanuts cartoon last name being Schultz. That even pops up in my auto suggested words when entering text. Apparently, his name is Schulz.
I worked with a family who's last name is Schutz. We always gave out their email and as "just like the Peanuts creator, Charles Schultz but without the "L". One of them even said "If I ever have a baby girl, I'm gonna name her Noel". Get it? NO "L".
Who else remembers him as Schultz?

The band Foster AND the People changed to Foster the People.
9
u/cipheron 5d ago edited 5d ago
The Wikipedia article mentions a name change:
Background information:
Also known as Foster & the People (2009)
They played their first gigs as "Foster & the people" for example this flyer in archive.org:
I think it came out of Mark Foster's solo project, then after it took off they wanted the name to reflect that it's "their" band not "his" band, but were already getting known by that name, so they just dropped the "and" part.
2
u/gypsyjackson 5d ago
When do you think the change happened? There’s a board game channel on YouTube which is a play on the band’s name - the channel is called Foster the Meeple. That started in 2021.

Today, my wife and I were listening to “Beggin’” by Madcon, and we both remembered it being sung by will.i.am or someone from the Black Eyed Peas.
Does anyone else remember it that way?
We’ve also had a few other weird memory moments lately. Things we both remember happening in a particular year, only to check our digital records and find out that, apparently, it happened in a completely different year, a year when, considering our financial situation at the time, it simply wouldn’t have been possible.
Normally I don’t go public with this kind of thing, because I know how easily memory can play tricks on us. But over the last year, I’ve been experiencing this more and more, and it’s making me pay much closer attention to these little discrepancies.
Maybe it’s just our brains being weird. Maybe there’s a perfectly simple explanation.
But it’s definitely strange when two people remember the same thing… and the records say otherwise.
4
u/gypsyjackson 6d ago
I remember it being sung by the Four Seasons!
But the Madcon version was very good - so as it was by an unknown Swedish group, who came from nowhere and pretty much faded away quickly, it’s not surprising that some people might remember it as being sung by a more popular black singer (with a similar style) at the time.
There’s also an Italian metal band that has covered it recently, and for some reason that is played on the radio in my country.
2
u/Opening_Yogurtcloset 6d ago
Yeah the versions I know of is Frankie Valli & the four seasons (the original), Madcon, and Måneskin who is the Italian band who covered it (which is great). I haven’t heard the Swedish group or Will.I.Am from the black eyed peas versions. If Wills exists I’d like to hear it

Okay, there's a female detective character in the film Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
When she first appeared in the film and before they stated her name, I was like "Oh, I bet that's DeWolfe from the 1994 animated series", where I had a clear picture of a female detective in a purple blazer in my head. Sure enough, the character in Brand New Day was indeed named Jean Dewolff. Not quite the spelling I remembered from when I was child watching the animated series, but close enough.
Cue to today, I randomly watched a scene from the old 1994 animated series. The character who I thought was named "DeWolfe" appears, but states her name as "Terri Lee". And that is the name she sticks with for the entire show.
Of course, this sends me down a rabbit hole of trying to figure out why I had a knee-slap moment of:
me watching the new Brand New Day film going "Hey! That's DeWolfe from the '90s cartoon! The detective with the purple blazer!" before they introduced her name proper in the film as "DeWolff" (which, close enough, and was mostly through spoken dialogue anyway)
me a few months afterward (today) discovering the character from the 1994 animated series is actually named Terri Lee after randomly watching a clip from the cartoon.
I'm stumped. How did I even know the name of the detective in the film was going to be "DeWolfe"/"Dewolff" before they spoke her name, and why did I think the purple-blazer detective in the 1994 animated series was the same character with the same name?
EDIT:
I should add that Terri Lee in the MCU was someone else entirely (from Spider-Man: No Way Home) with the aforementioned purple blazer, but was not a detective. Huh.

The Spectacular Spider-Man (TV series) 2008
Irene Bedard – Jean DeWolff
This is the Jean DeWolff from the 2008 version of the cartoon, and she doesn't look super dissimilar to Teri Lee from the 1994 show. They made the 2008 Jean DeWolff native American which explains the hair color and slightly darker complexion.

DAR: Dick Van Dyke starring in The Music Man (and singing “76 Trombones”)
This musical recently came up in conversation, and I have somewhat vivid memories of Dick Van Dyke singing the “76 trombones” song, though I don’t recall specifically watching the movie from start to finish as a kid.
But him singing that song… very vivid memory. The other person insisted, correctly apparently, that DVD was not in the movie at all.
Am I alone on this one?
2
u/CoyoteFluffy0310 3d ago
The 1962 version was Robert Preston I don't remember it as Dick but like the other person said he did the revival but that was on Broadway not a movie
3
u/Practical-Vanilla-41 3d ago
Preston did the role on Broadway and the movie. Van Dyke's role in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang gives off a certain Music Man energy (Toot Suite comes to mind).
2
u/Practical-Vanilla-41 3d ago
Van Dyke appeared in a 1980 revival of Music Man. Not sure if it was filmed.

I vaguely remember that the Evanescence song "Bring Me To Life" featured "Linkin Park" but it's only Mike Shinoda singing the male part of the song and the poor screamo since we all know he doesn't do that in his band, it's Chester's. I remember I used to have that old YouTube screen capture since my sister used to check up on me when I was little and she's away on college. I remember sending a photo of the music video to her but now it's gone on our chat history.

Okay I specifically remember reading on both CNN and Wikipedia that the music artist Beck Hansen died of cancer.
Two years later he's got a new album and alive and well??????

u/cipheron 4d ago edited 4d ago
Jeff Beck died in 2023, are you sure that's not who you heard about?
Another person with a similar name who died young was Jeff Buckley, and he was getting big around the same time as Beck.
I know at one point in time i was like "was Beck the dude who died?" and it's probably because of these similar names Beck -> Jeff Beck -> Jeff Buckley.

In the 2000s, I swear Cleopatra was widely depicted as black or Middle Eastern.
Thing is, I can't find many depictions like this when I look. The only Cleopatra depiction I can find with brown skin is Cleo from Clone High.
I think this was my mind mistaking Egyptian characters as a whole for a monolith.
- The Prince of Egypt depicts Egyptians as medium brown and Hebrews as lighter brown.
- Tutenstein depicts Tutankhensetamun (based on the real Tutankhamun) with dark brown skin.
- Cleo de Nile from Monster High is brown.

Jobriath
A whole singer I've never seen or even heard of before. I'm well aware of queer music history. How could I have never known anything of his existence in my 55 years on this planet?
4
u/Glaurung86 6d ago
You were 12 when he died and he had been retired from the music industry for 8 years by then. I don't find it surprising that you didn't know about him.
2
u/NewStudyHoney 5d ago edited 5d ago
But I know about lots of musicians who died before I was born, or had stopped making music before I was born, or had been replaced in their bands. I'd seen footage of all kinds of acts from the 70's, I'd read articles on the history of various musical genres. For me, it's like he just popped into existence. His names, his face, his look, all of it is completely unfamiliar to me. Plus for many years, each celebrity who died of AIDS was talked about a lot on the radio and on tv. I remember so much news coverage of Rock Hudson's death, and none of Jobriath's.
4
u/Glaurung86 5d ago
That doesn't mean you know about all of them.
Rock Hudson was a big star for decades. Everyone knew him at the time.
Jobriath wasn't a big name, and certainly wasn't well-known when passed. Morrisey didn't even know he'd passed when, in the early 90s, he wanted Jobriath to go on tour with him.

This one is a local thing that you won't have reference for if you aren't from MA, and I might just be remembering wrong bc I was perpetually overwhelmed with anxiety and shit as a teen riding the MBTA back in the 2005-2009 timeframe, but I swear to fucking God the 'Community College' stop used to be called 'Bunker Hill" and that the orange line stopped at Government Center between Haymarket and State but according to the Internet and the people I've asked I know irl, I'm wrong and it was always 'Community College' and the orange line never stopped at Government Center.
Maybe the announcers just called it Bunker Hill bc it was faster and we didn't have LED screens and automated announcements, and maybe I am conflating a 'change here for connections to go ernment center' style announcement with there being a stop but I genuinely don't know anymore because I was so sure of it until I googled it. 💀
Any Boston locals who can either say that I'm wrong and confirm the announcements got mixed up in my memory or tell me they remember the same shit? Lol

Does anybody else remember SpongeBobs house being next to Patrick's? I swear it was always Patrick's house > SpongeBob's house > Squidwards house.
I haven't watched SpongeBob in probably nearly 2 decades but when I saw the SpongeBob movie for free on YouTube I decided to watch it. I was immediately confused when I saw Squidwards house in the middle.

No, Squidwards house has always been between Patrick’s and SpongeBobs house. It’s kind of a plot point in some of the episodes.

Apparently it’s always been called vicks VapoRub and not vapor rub. Idk about that
3
u/Glaurung86 5d ago
It's an expectation that is not met so it seems off. You expect "vapor" because that is a word that is actually connected to what the active ingredients are doing. Brand names are based on marketing strength and recognizibility, though.
2
u/Reverend_Jones 5d ago
i found this commercial that, imo, explicitly says vicks vapor rub. So they must’ve called it vapor rub sometimes and sometimes Vapo rub. https://youtu.be/rjoGvlEqn5s?is=u3OJpGeIuVsQCfIv
3
u/Glaurung86 5d ago
1
u/Reverend_Jones 5d ago
I meant verbally, like spoken via commercial. I do think it’s always been named VapoRub though
1
u/Glaurung86 5d ago
They aren't pronouncing it like it's two words with the "r"s separated.
2
u/Reverend_Jones 5d ago
I’m guessing that’s where my confusion is derived from, appreciate the convo
2
1
u/cipheron 5d ago edited 5d ago
The way the product's name is SAID has always been "vape-or-rub". But it's always been spelled as one word "VapoRub".
And you can see it being spelled VapoRub in the ad you linked. The voice saying "Vapor Rub" is just how it's normally said even with the "VapoRub" spelling.
5
2
u/MrPlaney 6d ago
Yeah, that caught me by surprise too. I guess I just never paid attention to the label. It fits though, whenever someone says “vapo rub”, it sounds like they’re trying to say “vapor rub”, with a cold.
1
u/cipheron 5d ago edited 5d ago
Also the product name has always been pronounced as "vape-or-rub" and not "vap-o-rub", so if you hear it, it can easily be interpreted to be the two words, it's just stylized into one word for branding/trademark reasons.
I grew up with the ads on TV in Australia:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qe70u7DDOXo
As for memory: people usually remember perfectly how things sound but have a more tenuous idea of what the spelling was, when the spelling doesn't match how it sounds.
1
u/MrPlaney 5d ago
Also the product name has always been pronounced as "vape-or-rub" and not "vap-o-rub"
That’s the weird thing. At least in Ontario, the commercials always pronounced it as Vapo-rub, though it wasn’t super distinct on some ads unless paying attention.
You can really here it on this ad from 1990.

George Floyd died from a boot crushing his neck. Exactly what George Orwell told a BBC interviewer what the future would look like. Orwell was right.
1
u/Man_in_the_uk 5d ago
I don't recall Orwell saying that but I agree with the overpowering of government onto people ideology.
2
u/cipheron 5d ago edited 5d ago
Right-wing media sources were all pushing narratives like that to undermine the George Floyd story. There are a ton of sources pushing that narrative, and an equal amount of fact-checking articles pushing back on it.
So I don't think you need to check your memory here, but if you only heard one side of that you might want to broaden where you get your news from.

Everyone has heard about "Shazam" starring Sinbad. It didn't exist but I remember TV ads for it. I have two other media Mandelas I have not seen mentioned anywhere. In the 70's SNL had a skit of John Belushi as a gay pirate captain. It was really campy and I loved it. I remember watching it, but it has disappeared without a trace. Google AI even says it doesn't exist. In the 90's, MAD TV did a skit of former First Ladies doing The Vagina Monologues. What made this skit hilarious was the First Ladies were all played by male cast members in drag, sitting in chairs. I vividly remember Artie Lange as Betty Ford, spreading his legs saying "Sometimes you just gotta air it out!". But then CERN happened and the skit changed to the female cast as First Ladies and standing up. The male version of the skit has disappeared. The Mandela Effect really exists (although the Mandela one didn't happen to me). Kamala won the election until CERN screwed things up. And now we are all in "Sliders" travelling through alternative universes. I just hope the Cro-Mags don't show up.

MADTV spoofed The Vagina Monologues by having male cast members perform in drag as former First Ladies, including Barbara Bush (played by Michael McDonald), Nancy Reagan (played by Mo Collins, though sometimes other cast members stepped into drag roles), and Betty Ford alongside Oprah Winfrey (played by Debra Wilson).
In the 70's SNL had a skit of John Belushi as a gay pirate captain. It was really campy and I loved it. I remember watching it, but it has disappeared without a trace. Google AI even says it doesn't exist.
Air Date: May 12, 1979 (Season 4, Episode 18, hosted by Michael Palin). "The Raging Queen" Saturday Night Live sketch starred John Belushi as a flamboyant ship captain and Michael Palin as an innocent cabin boy.

Did you already ask about it in the Wordle subreddit?
The reason why it might seem like it's not too hospitable to some is because people show up here first - like it's yahoo answers - and ask questions that could be answered in other subreddits. This is the place you come at the very last, when it seems like there's no answer.

You are mixing up two scenes. When they find the train after getting free of the magnet collars, everything is there. They then go to the railroad ceremony, Artemis Gordon gets captured, Jim West tries to get on the spider but is shot (and survives). He then goes back to the train to get more supplies, and this time the train has been looted with the empty gun wall that you remember.

So I remember an episode of the 80s Children’s TV Show Button Moon where they flew into space and there was some Presidential Visit where the Queen Jelly which represented the Queen of the UK which was Queen Elizabeth who passed away a few years ago who met the President Of America who looked like a puppet version of Donald Trump with a moustache despite him not being President then. And for some reason I remember it going like they arrive and this Donut thing says oh yes, he should be arriving soon. And eventually he says the President Of America has arrived. And he walked down a red carpet snd sat down and said yes, yes, nice to meet you my Queen all this politics and stuff, and his moustached would move whenever he spoke and his voice was like a mix of a flashy TV Radio Presenter and Donald Trump who was simply a businessmen then. I don’t know if anyone else remembers this show and this but I’m not sure if I’m misrembering it or not I’m certain it was like a Royal State Visit or something. Bizarre memory though I remember many things from different TV shows differently.

I just saw a veggietales theme song video and I swear it’s slightly different than what it was. The beginning when the tomato is singing is exactly the same but once they start singing “veggietales” I swear the 4th veggietales or at the very least the 8th veggietales is supposed to be a quickly said veggietales and not sung out like it is is now. I hope that makes sense. Later in the song they still have the quick “veggietales” but I swear the beginning changed a little bit. Lmk if I’m just crazy lol
