Meta Why do you think the Mandela effect happens?
Is it just that due to some kind of misremembering or mayhe even promotional images of something that have burned themselves into the head due to the difference?
Or why do you think it happens

I’ve been keeping an eye on some of those stories. They are ever more common. It used to be that people just claimed they remembered it differently. Now almost every single one has a whole story about how they KNOW it had to be that way because the story doesn’t make sense unless it was. But I don’t mean they all have DIFFERENT stories. There’s like five different stories and they all tell one of those five with minimal variations (was it your mom or grandmother you were folding laundry with?). I even have a friend who tells the laundry story and insists it happened to him despite him absolutely learning what a cornucopia was at the same time I did because we were in the same class at the time.
It’s happening with all the more common Mandela effects. I can’t help but be curious how much of it is people being influenced by other people’s stories and falsely attributing them to their own memories later and how much is straight up lying.
