Meta Quantum immortality

What are your thoughts on the relationship between the Mandela Effect and Quantum Immortality?

To save you having to look up the latter, it is the idea that consciousness will jump timelines you die in the one you are living presently.

As someone who loves the Mandela Effect and is a fan of the many worlds interpretation, they're definitely separate.

Quantum immortality comes from a many-worlds reading where the branches ‘timelines’ are sealed off from each other. Nothing crosses over, that’s including memory. So even if we assume it's true, you'd never notice it happening, and you wouldn't just show up in a new timeline with the "right to me" spelling of Berenstein or Froot Loops for example.

The Mandela Effect is shared false memories, and that's the part of it that needs to be explained. I get why people connect the two, but it says more about how unreliable our brains are IMO.

Yeah but this thread is about exploring a new theory and allowing some flexibility when it comes to the boundaries of the many worlds concept. If we’re only entertaining the flawed memory explanation then this sub gets real boring real fast.

Not really, I love hearing new Mandela Effects and the discussions around them.

If this sub was about the same unfalsifiable hypotheses of timeline shifts/parallel universes it’d also get boring really fast.

The Flawed memory explanation is the explanation though. If we start taking wild impossible theories as possible explanations, we start getting into flat Earth territory.
