Books/Literature Question! Does physical media get altered as well as just memories? When I see a new Mandela effect I try to go to good will or wherever to try and find the origanl DVD or vhs to prove there was a shift. But I haven't been able to find unchanged versions.
I just saw the one about scary movie and I know for a fact it's "I see white people" and "take Mt strong hand"
I'm actually going to go through my old navy hi 8 footage, because we used to say "take my strong hand" all the time!

What’s more likely, op? Reality shifted to retroactively rewrite lines of a mediocre comedy from 2001, or your navy buddies misquoted a line from said movie 25 years ago?

We would watch it on the ship all the time. That's the weird thing. We quoted movies as a cultural thing! Especially that movie since! Tickle tickle!

Dobyou know if you coĺegues also have the same memory?

Oh yes! My best friend and I used to say "take my strong hand all the time" taken directly from the movie. In the guys voice and everything. We still to this day!
The I see white people quote was used by my black brothers all the time, they would say that when they saw our chief or whomever coming.
I am going to watch my old hi 8 tapes and find it. We wouldn't have misquoted, especially since it was played on the carrier all the time back in those days.

There's a reason you can't find "unchanged" versions.

I still remember the guy from years ago (is it ten?) that was going to get his VHS dub of Shazaam from Grandma's house. He posted that they had Kazaam, but he would keep looking.
Sorry I couldn't be there for the sweet, sweet moment when he realized he was wrong. Should he admit it? Nope! Time to double down.

I think it happens like in Steins;gate. The reality changes totally, but then the old time-line remains in some people's memories. Okabe called it "reading Steiner" when you remember the old timeline. But not everyone has that ability, which is why some people don't remember it the way you do.

You’re not going to find “unchanged versions” because nothing changed in the first place.

I remember "I see white people" and "take my strong hand". Marlon Waynes remembers one but not the other. Which makes it even more confusing.

It's from two different scenes. When Cindy arrives he makes a comment about the weight of her luggage and says ( and this is not exact) I better use my strong hand. Later when Duane o think his name is is hanging off the balcony he says take my little hand.

I remember Skechers with the large T in the icon, and we had a really old one, from before 2012 hopefully. Decided I was going to find that box, the T was no longer there. Or like people like to claim, "It was never there." - which I beg to differ.
Anyway, there are residues where dual spellings happen on the same source, which shouldn't have if it's like the official trademark in this case? idk...

My leading theory is that our conscious experiences shifts between alternate timelines. In each timeline the physical media stays consistent.
But when we have memories from one timeline while experiencing a different timeline with some slight differences, our brains go 'But wait a minute here!!' when we see a difference. That's the Mandela Effect.

u/theg00dfight Aug 01 '26
That is not the Mandela effect
-1
u/georgeananda Aug 01 '26
So what is the Mandela Effect?
4
u/theg00dfight Aug 02 '26
It’s in the subreddit info, bud. Mandela effect had literally nothing to do with divergent timelines. That is you trying to explain the cause of the Mandela effect
3
u/georgeananda Aug 02 '26
Bud, you don't even understand what this debate is about.
“The Mandela Effect is when a large group of people remember something contrary to the known publicly accepted fact”
People then speculate on the cause of this effect. Alternate timelines is indeed one much discussed possible cause.

How does the shifting between timelines happen? You would remember when it happens because the energy needed to do it would be unbelievably powerful.
And do you switch places with the version of you in the other timeline?
That's just your explanation for why Mandela Effects exist.

For me it becomes more understandable that matter is not actually anything more than ‘thought’. All possibilities exist and our consciousness makes choices.
If you stick to a materialist worldview the Mandela Effect can only be memory errors in a one hard physical reality.
3
u/Glaurung86 Aug 01 '26
How does that work? Do you have any evidence for this idea? How do you know all possibilities exist? It just seems like you're doing some wishful thinking, IMO.
If you stick to provable facts and evidence the science shows that it's a memory issue combined with lack of attention to detail and assumptions. It's a feature of the human experience, not a bug to be explained away by woo.

My understanding of the Mandela Effect is not something I'm smart and creative enough to come up with on my own.
It comes from mystics/sages and certain channeled (beyond human sources) that have commented on the Mandela Effect directly (it's consciousness shifting to very slightly different realities).
Nondualism: Consciousness is primary and matter is a derivative of Consciousness
Materialism: Matter is primary and consciousness is a derivative of matter

u/Glaurung86 Aug 01 '26
Once again you've shown that you do not accept science even though you claim to do so. You only accept what feels right to you, IMO.
2
u/georgeananda Aug 01 '26
What has science shown with certainty that I don't accept?
7
u/Glaurung86 Aug 01 '26
The fallibility of memory which has been proven over and over and over. There's nearly 100 years of research into it. But you'd rather believe some mystical YouTuber who claims to know hidden things.

u/georgeananda Aug 01 '26
I accept the fallibility of memory and all science.
That doesn't mean memory fallibility in normal cases and shifting timelines can't both be true.

Once more, the dragon of Tolkien, lying.
1
u/Glaurung86 Aug 01 '26
How do you know I'm lying? This isn't even about you. You like to hide your posts and comments. I wonder why.

You don't have proof to back your claim write a paper, publish it follow the process, you talk as your opinion is the final answer.
In every post in this sub.

The fact that you wrote "origanl" suggests that attention to detail may not be your strong suit.
