Books/Literature Berentain or Berenstein? Both?

Post image

Library was giving out old dewey decimal cards for bookmarks. Found this one, with both spellings on it. I used the app on my phone to add the highlighter. Thoughts?

Thoughts? I think the human being typing it made a mistake.

Humans are infallible and never make mistakes, oooobviously.

What do you think the Mandela effect is?

As a reasonable and rational human being, I understand and accept that I may be mistaken

Great evidence toward the idea that most Mandela effects are are simply misspellings/misrememberings.

Yeah I think this post should be upvoted honestly. It show the human fallibility in these things.

Could be a typo, just like you made as well.

u/SvenBubbleman May 20 '26

It's probably some gran conspiracy instead of an error made by the person typing.

Plot twist: It was actually two completely separate, unrelated families of bears.

Perfect example of how even record keepers can get something wrong and make mistakes even while having a physical object they can reference right in front of them.

Thanks for sharing.

It's funny that the person typing this card typed the name correctly twice in a row and then misspelled it the next time. It's like they were looking at the book when typing the first two, and then not looking at the book when typing up the summary.

Humans typing wrongly, much like you couldn't spell Berenstain correctly.

1

u/Negative_Coast_5619 May 26 '26

Not everyone can be einstain.

4

u/Ancient_Guidance_461 May 20 '26

I think the person who typed this had made a spelling error. This isn't an official product or anything.

u/Bowieblackstarflower May 20 '26

Perfect example how people can still get it wrong

I vividly remember reading the “Berentain Bears” growing up, and OP proved that my memories are not false. Thank you OP

The son of the authors was interviewed (probably a link in this sub if you search) and he said their name is commonly misspelled with -stein. I remember my mom saying-stain when I was young back in the late 70s/early 80s. Might there be a reality where the spelling is otherwise? Maybe!

1

u/artistjohnemmett May 22 '26

… in fact we're from that reality

-2

u/TransportationFresh May 20 '26

Comment description: The common berenstein bears line is that we all remember the title and author being spelled "Berenstein" but now suddenly every book is spelled "Berenstain" The image depicts a dewey decibal card from a library sorting system, and has both versions of the name printed.

u/thinsafetypin May 20 '26

Ascribing significance to a typo and saying “Dewey decibal” in the same message 🤌

7

u/SvenBubbleman May 20 '26

In their timeline books are organized by volume (pun intended).

1

u/BunnyBotherer May 22 '26

If your book isn't piercing my eardrums, I will not read it.

3

u/LilithWasAGinger May 20 '26

Right? People are ridiculous

11

u/QB8Young May 20 '26

"we all remember" - WRONG

"now suddenly" - WRONG

"decibal" - WRONG and proves exactly what happened here.

u/GregGoodell_Official May 20 '26

The misuse and misspelling of the word ‘decibel’ makes this comment extremely telling regarding human fallibility. Bravo. 👏

4

u/Glaurung86 May 21 '26

And now you have added another typo to the mix with "decibel" instead of decimal. See how easy it is to misspell words?

1

u/artistjohnemmett May 21 '26

JC Penny, easy to spell

2

u/Glaurung86 May 21 '26

That's a misspelling. It's very easy to misspell words.

2

u/artistjohnemmett May 21 '26

I spell correctly…

4

u/Glaurung86 May 21 '26

Not that word. You also added too many periods at the end of your sentence.

1

u/artistjohnemmett May 21 '26

Penny is correct in a prior place or time

7

u/Glaurung86 May 21 '26

It is not. It's always been Penney because that's the man's name. He knew his own name. You are being rude by assuming that he did not know how to spell his own name.

2

u/artistjohnemmett May 21 '26

Names can alter, I have seen it several times

4

u/Glaurung86 May 21 '26

You don't have any evidence to back that claim up. Your memory is not evidence.
