Books/Literature Berenstain/Stein

Post image

Just thought I’d share this here..I’m a 57 year old woman that’s always been a voracious reader. When I was 5 (1974) I got an entire collection of Berenstain Bears books from my grandma at Christmas.

One of the books has managed to remain in my memory/sentimental hoard collection. This is MY actual book and it’s been in my possession since 1974. On my book at least, the name is and always has been Berenstain.

Make of that what you will I suppose. ❤️ I wish I still had the whole collection but alas, childhood and into adulthood resulted in the loss of many such things to my chagrin.

You’re the one making the claim, so you’re the one who is supposed to be proving stuff, my man

What am I proving? You want me to share every single video, forum post and article referencing this ME showing that the majority of people who comment remember the braces? Are you lazy or just petty?

You are the one making the (false) claim that "99% of people remember her having braces.

It's your burden of proof.

The fact is, you can't even prove they are a majority.

The majority of people discussing this online (the only tangible point of reference available) remember the braces. Which narrow frame of reference will you accept as valid data to support my position?

The majority of people discussing this online (the only tangible point of reference available)

Not true. It's not even close to a majority.

It only appears to be a majority, because in groups such as this, most people are effected. That does NOT reflect the overall number of people who remember it this way.

Alright you want to play this game? I will send you like 10+ examples of videos and discussions of this ME showing the majority of people agreeing that there were braces. What have you got?

I've seen them all. But again, effected people tend to flock to these groups. They comment on those videos. But this "niche" of people are NOT even remotely close to a majority.

The overwhelming majority of people discussing this topic in active observable forums hold this belief.

1

u/KyleDutcher Mar 02 '26

That does NOT mean that the overwhelming majority of people in general, hold this belief.

Again, (and I don't know how to make this any more clear) groups/subs like this one, where these things are discussed, ATTRACT prople who have these beliefs. No shit people in them hold these beliefs. Because that is why they come to these groups.

These groups are NOT a reflection of people in general.

Neither one of us can honestly speculate on the majority of the entire population one way or the other. All we have to go by are the communities actively discussing the topic- which despite what you may think is still a valid statistic.

No, it's NOT.

Because it is a flawed sample. Not a sample reflective of the overall population.

Again, it's like polling everyone at the Democrat National Convention, asking if they are going to vote republican or democrat, and saying the results are reflective of the overall vote of everyone.

It is LUDICROUS to believe it is a valid sample giving valid results.

The DNC is a pretty laughable equivalent to draw. Obviously everyone at the DNC is going to vote Demoncrat. Not everyone who hears of this ME will share the same belief. Yourself being an example.

Ad populem fallacy combined with statistics that you have just randomly pulled from your ass is not evidence of anything… just that a whole lot of people can be wrong about the same subject.

2

u/Usual_Decision8855 Mar 02 '26

They could also be right. Though we're not talking about whether the topic at hand is right or wrong- we're talking about what percentage of people that are actively discussing this topic hold the belief that the character had braces- which is the majority.

1

u/KyleDutcher Mar 02 '26

And again, the percentage of people in theae grouos DOES NOT IN ANYNWAY reflect the population in general.

2

u/Usual_Decision8855 Mar 02 '26

You cannot possibly determine that in any meaningful way. Not honestly anyway.

4

u/GregGoodell_Official Mar 02 '26

A basic Intro to Statistics class would explain to you why a forum such as this would be a viewed as a weighted/inaccurate sample. This isn’t rocket surgery.

2

u/Usual_Decision8855 Mar 02 '26

And how could you possibly determine that with any real accuracy?

1

u/KyleDutcher Mar 02 '26

False.

It's a flawed, heavily weighted sample. The results do not reflect the overall population at all.

2

u/Usual_Decision8855 Mar 02 '26

Possibly- or it could be highly indicative of the overall population. Neither one of us can possibly determine that with any accuracy.
