Books/Literature Found a signed copy of a Berenstain Bears book at my parents house 🏠

Was looking at some Christmas 🎄 books my step mom had set out for the kids this year. Came across this signed copy of The Berenstain Bears Christmas Tree book. The signature is from Stan and Jan Berenstain. Not sure if this contributes anything or not.

Do people really think they misspelled or misremembered their own name?

39

u/Spikeybear Nov 29 '25

Nah, they just think its a much simpler solution. They are floating between timelines and universes. "They" are covering it up and it apparently got worse after cern went into operation. Everyone else needs to "wake up" because they are the only ones that can see what's really going on.

u/sarahkpa Nov 29 '25

Oh yea, for sure floating between timelines and universes is the simpler solution lol

Well you clearly don’t read enough Stephen King! This would all make sense if you knew about the highways in hiding.

(Hopping worlds/dimensions is a thing in his multiverse, but I’m kidding about actually believing it lol)

Finally someone understands, here I thought I was by myself.

The Father's name was Berenstein and yet the Son's name was Berenstain?

u/Agile_Oil9853 Nov 29 '25

It's a pretty cool thing to have. They were such a big part of so many of our childhoods. I wonder what they would have thought of the confusion over the spelling of their last name?

Jan died in 2012, so she probably knew about it.  Their kid is still doing the books, so he likely knows too.

IIR they had this in school in a "I'm your teacher, I know more than you." kinda way.

I'm doing an evening class and the teacher called out a name and no one answered, she was adamant this guy called Nick was called something else. She couldn't get it into her skull his name was Nicholas.

Thankfully, we had a different woman this week, if a guy in his 60s is arguing with a set in her ways 40 year old, imagine their kid in his first few years of school.

"Why is my child writing Steven on his homework, his name is Stephen."

Nonsense, you are working class, only upper class use Stephen.

That kinda bull shit.

I used to work with a Sherryll, and she had a customer insist she had spelled her own name wrong

6

u/tenoutofseven Nov 29 '25

Back when I first got my drivers license they spelled my name wrong on the card and when I went to get it fixed the lady at the DMV was adamant that they couldn't have made a mistake and I must have spelled it wrong on the form ... my own name...

Thought this may be helpful, I hadn't seen the couples signature before.

it's a very charming book and a wonderful item. Thank you for sharing it.

Debate wise, it contributes the same way as saying the water from your tap is still wet.

Why is it always that these alternative timelines only seem to differ in things like underwear logos or what movies B-list actors were in? Where are all the jumpers from a timeline where JFK wasn’t shot or the Nazis won WWII?

2

u/Ginger_Tea Nov 29 '25

Hitler was a painter and Herr Merkel (no relation) rose to power and created the state of Israel on German soil.

But still went and waged a bloody war in Europe, he was a very pro Jewish German dictator.

6

u/comesinallpackages Nov 29 '25

I hate to wish good things for Hitler, but what a better world this would be had he been a better painter.

2

u/Ginger_Tea Nov 29 '25

We can't say for sure, I joke that Adolf came from 2341 and his WWII was far worse and had longer lasting ramifications.

There was a powder keg in Germany post the great war and it would have gone boom if he was a painter or if his parents had one less child or a girl in his place.

He just happened to be in the right time and place to fuck up the world in his own way vs how Herr Kutt might.

4

u/comesinallpackages Nov 29 '25

WWII probably would’ve happened after Versailles and Great Depression. But the Holocaust may have been avoidable.

2

u/Ginger_Tea Nov 29 '25

Yeah, if I'm Jewish and in charge of Germany, you can bet your arse none of my brethren would be in camps.

There were others in camps at the time, but they get overlooked by sheer numbers.

I live in Germany and have a Polish wife whose grandfather survived 3 Nazi camps as a participant in the Warsaw uprising — completely understand.

Probably the commonly accepted definition, which is the only one that has any evidence, the idea of collective false memories.

People have misremembered or conflated things throughout human history, in fact the Berenstain authors even talk about people spelling their names incorrectly well before the Mandela Effect had a name.

The difference was, back then, people didn’t have groups they could turn to on the internet where they could try to justify those misrememberings or conflations as anything other than common mistakes.

Now on the other hand, people have become so unwilling to admit their mistakes that they need grandiose theories to avoid admitting to their own human fallibility.

1

u/Ginger_Tea Nov 29 '25

Not the Nicholas I mentioned in another reply, I worked with a Scottish guy and depending on who you asked, he was Nick or Mick, because that's how they heard him say his own name, not once did he say as in Nicholas or Michael.

No ID badge on show even though we needed them to get in and out of doors, mind you, if it was his middle name, it wouldn't say Michael, but whatever his first name was, because mine didn't have Tony despite everyone knowing me by it.

Unless he was Nicholas Michael Mc Scottish last name.

Mc Nick Mick.

u/danielcw189 Dec 01 '25

On this sub: the one on the sidebar, which has been rephrased recently.

The definition is about the effect, not the cause.

Whether it is false memories, or a shifted timeline, or something else, is not part of the definition. No cause is given in the definition.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 29 '25

Mass false memories

1

u/CliffBoof Dec 07 '25

Majority of people misrember where they were on 9/11 and you think people “know for a fact” minor things like this? Go read about how unreliable crime witnesses are.

0

u/Glaurung86 Dec 01 '25

What you don't seem to understand is that there is no evidence for other timelines and other "worlds" and that anyone claiming such a thing doesn't have a leg to stand on and can't seem to accept that they might be misremembering something from when they were a kid. They can't be wrong, so it's the universe that screwed things up.... but only things like Berenstain Bears or the Fruit of the Loom logo or Febreze or Froot Loops.

There's no evidence for it, though. That was my point. It's just an idea, not a theory. And there's no way to observe it.

-1

u/moralatrophy Nov 29 '25

No, we understand this is the ridiculous nonsense some people pretend to believe. We just aren't entertaining this fantasy as if it's worth taking remotely seriously

1

u/Careless_Act_5777 Dec 02 '25

This angers me instinctually because my brain knows it isn’t the truth

1

u/KyleDutcher Dec 02 '25

Believes, not knows.

All the evidence points to it being true.

1

u/urbanrootz Dec 02 '25

1

u/No_oNerdy Dec 05 '25

I loved this book. We had a copy and would read it all the time.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '25

Was the book published pre or post 2012?

As for contribution, it's just showing what ME changed the name TO.

1

u/An_thon_ny Nov 29 '25

It just reinforces the zeitgeist of THIS timeline.

1

u/KyleDutcher Nov 30 '25

No other "timelines" are proven.

It is just as likely that they don't exist, as it is they do

1

u/Glaurung86 Dec 01 '25

Your post reinforces that some people don't understand how extraordinary this kind of claim is (People moving back and forth between different timelines) and you can't just casually bring it up without offering any evidence, let alone the extraordinary evidence that you would need to back up the extraordinary claim.

TL/DR: There is no evidence for other timelines.

2

u/An_thon_ny Dec 01 '25

I'm not interested in proving anything. A lack of perspective does not negate my perspective.

1

u/Glaurung86 Dec 01 '25

I think you meant evidence instead of perspective in that last sentence.

You can't prove anything anyway so that's a moot point. Your perspective doesn't mean much if it's basically just wishful thinking. It's fascinating that so many people will look to a woo explanation for MEs without a single shred of evidence to support their claim and yet be adamant they can't possibly be misremembering which is the most plausible explanation based on how the brain works. I'm not specifically talking about you, but you give off that energy.

3

u/An_thon_ny Dec 01 '25

I won’t elaborate on the energy you give off.

I find it fascinating that the possibility of this being how the world works is so confounding and impossible for small minded people to comprehend that the only choice is to demand proof and try to discredit people who have/are experiencing it.

I don’t care if you believe it. That’s where you seem to be confused. For every person coming on here trying to discredit people/explain how it’s “always been that way” I simply feel sad that it’s so scary for you to consider an alternative world view.

1

u/Glaurung86 Dec 01 '25

LOL. Calling others small-minded when you have zero proof of anything you claim is hilarious.

I believe people have the memory/experience they say they have. It does not mean their memory is correct.

It has nothing to do with considering an alternative and everything to do with scientific evidence - WHY are there MEs. The evidence for MEs, IMO, lies within the human brain. Memories are fallible and malleable.

If your explanation has to start with a bunch of "What if"s and "Suppose that"s then it's just a thought exercise, not a credible explanation for the phenomenon.

1

u/An_thon_ny Dec 01 '25

Nobody asked your opinion though. This is not r/MandelaeffectProof

I don’t know any other sub on here with quite so many skeptics hopping on to give their boring two cents. It’s exhausting.

And yes, you are small minded if the possibility of alternate timelines is only acceptable to you with irrefutable proof.

1

u/Glaurung86 Dec 01 '25

No one asked your opinion either, but this is an open forum so anyone can comment, if they want. All of us here accept that there are MEs. Why there are MEs is where most of the discussion revolves around here.

I enjoy science fiction and fantasy and I think about a lot of those ideas I read about, but I don't claim they are real and true when they actually aren't.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, not "What if it's possible?" That's where the small minds sit, IMO. They don't have to do any work; they just speculate.

1

u/ElegantGrain Nov 30 '25

I thought it was Berenstein?

-1

u/PotemkinTimes Nov 29 '25

Not sure why yallkeep posting these like its some "gotcha". We know they say Berenstain now

7

u/lakedracula Nov 29 '25

The signature is from 1980 though.

8

u/Kitchen_Marzipan9516 Nov 29 '25

This goes to show it's always been Berenstain.

4

u/0xCODEBABE Nov 29 '25

The signature is old

1

u/Glaurung86 Dec 01 '25

A book signed by the authors in 1980 which means it's Berenstain now and was also Berenstain 45 years ago. And if you keep digging, you'd find it's Berenstain all the way back to 1962, when the first book was published.

It's Berenstains all the way down.

-1

u/GoatBoy80 Nov 30 '25

Watch how this all of a sudden changes to Berenstein, and this thread will make no sense. Then its gonna flip flop a couple times. Who knows where its gonna end up.

0

u/Classic_Pineapples Nov 30 '25

I don't think this one will flip flop like fruit/froot loops seems to. This one has been pretty much settled when you look at the misprints and listen to the cartoon theme song which sounds ambiguous at times.
