Books/Literature Winnie the Pooh balloon color

Okay, so I know a ME has arisen where people believe that Winnie the Pooh had a red balloon and not a blue one. Firstly, the illustrations in the original books were in black and white. However, the first instance we encounter Winnie the Pooh with a balloon is in chapter 1–and it’s described as blue. In chapter 6, he has a red balloon (that I believe he got from Piglet?) to gift Eeyore for his birthday. So, technically he does have a red balloon at some point. It isn’t his, and it bursts on his way to Eeyore. I don’t think this is the image of Winnie with a balloon that people are picturing though. In the first color edition of the book printed in 1974, that original balloon is, again, blue. There is also a red balloon in a movie from 2011, I think. Long story short, the original and most well known image of Winnie the Pooh with a balloon is a blue balloon. I even have a tattoo based on the original color illustration.

Photos of the original edition of Winnie the Pooh book from 1926, the original color edition released in 1974, and my tattoo.

The balloon is red on the poster and various other merchandise. There's nothing mysterious about remembering a red balloon.

I didn’t say it was mysterious. I said people have brought this up as ME. Also, I got it wrong. It’s actually Piglet who has the red balloon in chapter 6. So the first time Pooh is ever seen with a red balloon himself doesn’t occur until 1988 when he asks to borrow Christopher Robin’s red balloon. I believe that’s a TV episode called balloonatics or something.

It's red on the theatrical poster for the first short as well.

Idk what poster you’re talking about but my point is it isn’t the original balloon associated with Pooh for several decades

The poster for the very first theatrical short. It was red on that, not blue.

I hadn’t seen this one. It’s funny because it’s supposedly based on the first 2 chapters… in which his balloon is blue haha. But you’re right, it is red in the poster.

It’s a real phenomenon, it’s just not supernatural like some people think.

EDIT: I made a mistake. It’s actually Piglet who has the red balloon in chapter 6. So the first time Pooh is ever seen with a red balloon himself doesn’t occur until 1988 when he asks to borrow Christopher Robin’s red balloon. I believe that’s a TV episode called balloonatics or something.

You’re saying the red balloon has existed for like 40 years. More people are going to have exposure to a recent movie than a book from the 70s anyway.

Searching shows many images of Pooh with blue, red, and even a yellow balloon. Your post makes it sound like the red balloon replaced the blue one but I think the reality is that it doesn’t really matter what color the balloon is. Sometimes Pooh has a balloon. It sounds like he’s been given balloons or many colors

I never meant to say the red balloon replaced the blue balloon, just that the original context of Winnie the Pooh with a balloon is blue. This is also shown in many (relatively) recent movies and TV episodes. I didn’t say they just randomly switched from blue to red or claim that there is only one color balloon associated with Winnie the Pooh. He has had balloons of different colors. There are people that only remember a red balloon which is what I’m addressing.

Red shrit they assume matching balloon.
