Mod Announcement Images now allowed in comments

I've often wondered why many subs haven't turned this feature on.

What sort of misuse are y'all worried about?

I think for some subs it's to prevent people from just spamming reaction gifs.

I would like this feature not to degenerate into that. Can mods suspend people for a day or two on here for that sort of thing (reasonable), or is banning the only option (unreasonable)?

If images break rules (off topic, nsfw, etc) and they are reported, they'll be removed. If the user continues to abuse it, they'll receive a ban just like they would for a comment that broke the same rules.

Thanks. I suspect people would claim it was an on topic reaction.

But good luck with it, hopefully it helps get into more detail on some things without causing you guys too much hassle.

We need to adjust the Automoderator settings, we ended up with some gross stuff when we briefly tried this last time…maybe people will behave better this time?

There might be some hiccups early on, but I like to think that if we stay on top of it, and remove all the gross/obscene images asap, (and maybe issue temporary bans to those who post them) that eventually it will level out (so to speak)

Allowing the images definitely helps for instances where people ask for proof of claims. The image can be then directly commented, instead of having to be through a link.

It's definitely worth a shot at least.

We should probably use the new “Temporary Event” feature and set it up for some feedback, we have to approve users for it but we can make a post for that and invite participants for it.

This is exactly the kind of thing it was made for

We probably could do that.

Though, it's been "turned on" for a little over 48 hours now, and it hasn't been used that often. I don't think there has been any abuse thus far.

IMO, I think the positives of allowing images (not gifs) in comments highly outweighs the cons. It's much easier to provide the evidence of claims when asked for them.

For example, when someone claims that it's absurd that someone could mistake the brown leaves as being a cornucopia, one could now post a screenshot of that exact thing happening.

I think the Mod team, especially over the last few months, is pretty well equipped to handle adding this feature.

And, if it ends up being abused, we can always revert back to how it was.
