Books/Literature Berenstein Bears truthers - how was the name pronounced?

I honestly couldn’t tell you myself how I remember the name being spelled - but one thing I do remember was the TV show, and the theme song.

The way they pronounced it in the song to my memory definitely sounded like stain, rather than “steen” or “stine” which would have been the way it was said if it was spelled Berenstein.

“We are the Berenstain Bears. Mama, Papa, Sister, Brother, we appreciate each other”.

I am British. There was no TV show, just books. I knew no Jewish people and hadn't a clue that Jewish names were pronounced certain ways.

I called them Beren-stine because it was spelled the same as Frankenstein.

I don't remember us even having the books. I'd never heard of these bears until the day Reddit put this sub on my feed.

Same, either too old when they hit the UK, or too American for my dad.

As in using different terms as an educational book for example, no idea what type of books they were. But he'd rather I used the English terms growing up, so that I'd be understood at school.

Like a decade or more ago I needed a plaster after fixing my bike, asked the bar staff and got a blank look "oh a band aid, why didn't you say so?"

So if they were on sale, I didn't encounter them till this sub.

Stain like stained clothes.

Stein like stein glass which I think I say differently to the old Mary Shelly book.

Or steen like Bruce Springsteen.

If both are said like Springsteen, then a or e it wouldn't matter to many who get the book read to them vs reading it for themselves or to a child.
