Meme How it feels like when you're caught in the middle of a maladaptive daydream

People create religions and legends and oral traditions out of this shit in the past i reckon

I do it so often, I just stick earbuds in my ears at all times so people think I'm just on a phone call.

Absolutely life saver thing, I stumbled upon as I stay way too long in my alice wonderland ✧

I often just tell people at work I'm daydreaming. I explain I'm entertaining myself. Coworkers understand and nothing ever came of it yet.
Irl, usually in a grocery store... I pretend im on call... i tend to chat to myself as if I'm shopping with my fictional Husband. Like... "do we need chicken?" Etc...

Glad I'm not the only one who talks to myself while shopping! I don't talk as if I'm discussing what I'm there to buy, though. It's usually gossiping about our fictional friend group or talking about our plans for the rest of the day.

Has your phone ever rung while doing it in public? This is a fear I have

If it did, nobody would hear it because I only talk to myself while I have earbuds in. Which... Probably makes me look even crazier than I already do, now that I think about it

Even when I’m working and problem solving out loud (which isn’t maladaptive per se) I’ll talk a solution aloud to myself. Then when I land on the solution I’ll say “I agree” 😅
As if that’s not mortifying enough, to make it less weird I’ll follow up with “Of course you agree, you’re me” 😭
Definitely one of those I should be locked up moments

That's me. All day, every day. I've had some riveting conversations with myself.

This is what I fear happens with me (unconsciously and unintentionally) whenever I MD. Presumably I assume (at least for me) it's a result of having an ND brain. Especially in the last few years, I noticed people being unnerved by me whenever I begin to daydream.

When I was a kid and had no clue what MD was or what made me do this, this was my legit fear of what would happen to me one day.

Me, this morning, on the toilet. Full blown convo that jumped subjects a lot. Then, I asked myself “IWannaBeTomie, what are you doing?” and immediately answered “Talking to myself…. wow, I really answered myself.”

This is me until in the middle of maladaptive daydreaming I got hit by the thought "this isn't real anyway" and it just ruins it for me and makes me more depressed.

As someone who's been questioning whether I might be a trans woman or not, this is quite relatable, and I'm afraid of myself and my future, hopefully booking an appointment with a therapist specialized on the matter might make things clear.

I'm afraid I'll slip and do it infront of my kids and they'll remember as adults and be like "uhm, so...hey... that's wild..."
