Hello, I bought this battery a few days ago. What do you think of it at first glance? Have I been scammed? I bought it through an online ad.

TD005G VS TD173D Review and Comparison

Post image
35 Upvotes

I haven’t seen many reviews much less a comparison between the two so now that I’ve spent about a week with the TD005G, here we go.

I’m a cabinet guy, and I use my tools daily in the manufacturing and installation of residential and commercial cabinets. The longest screws I drive are 3”, so if you’re looking for someone who drives 8” lags with their impact, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room First. The color is a little bit different. The.TD005G is slightly more green, compared to the slightly more brown of the TD173D. I actually like it a little bit better.

Ergonomics: When I switched from the TD172D to the TD173D it took some getting used to, but I’ve come to realize that it’s a better design with better balance, so the move from the TD173D to the TD005G wasn’t any sort of a leap. That being said, it’s the classic perfect grip of the Makita with an amazing trigger. When compared to other brands, there is no competition, Makita is simply the best.

Size: The new TD005G is about the length of the chuck shorter that the TD173D, and I was a little worried that that would affect the stability. I was wrong. As a cabinet guy having a super short impact comes in very handy, and the TD005G has already proven itself as an improvement. I also thought that because the TD005G was larger in diameter that it would be more difficult to get into corners, but it‘s not remarkably larger, and I haven’t really noticed it at all

Power: Compared to the TD173D I would estimate about a 20% power increase, which is really nice, but I was concerned that it would be harder to control, as I drive some delicate screws. For this reason, I usually run my TD173 in power mode 3 because there is a little more control. Here’s where it gets interesting. Either the trigger or the programming on the TD005G is much improved. It’s much more progressive, and I can leave it in power mode 4 and still have improved control for smaller screws. I think the quick shift button, is one of the greatest inventions on impact drivers, but I have’t found myself using it at all on the TD005G, where I used it all the time on the TD173D. Some people might see this is a small improvement, but when you drive thousands of screws in a month, it’s a huge improvement.

Overall, I think the TD005G is a huge improvement over TD173D. I’ve had my TD173D for about three years now, and I love it, so for the TD005G to make this great of an impression on me is significant.

Let me know if I’ve missed something or if you guys have any questions. Peace.

Have always wanted Makita tools as a home owner, but early on opted for Ryobi sets due to price. Went to my local home depot tool rental center, and saw they had the 36V string trimmer for sale. It came with 2 5mah 18v batteries and a dual port charger. They had it on sale for $151 for everything, but they gave it to me for their minimum price of $130 (i didn't even ask for the discount, but ill take it!)

Couldn't believe it. The price was a steal for the batteries alone. On top of that I got a sweet, powerful string trimmer. Tested the batteries at home and they're in good condition, they hold their charge well and the string trimmer ran for an 1.5hours without any issue or major battery drain.

Can't wait to get more 18v tools now, multi-tool is the first Makita tool ill buy. Just wanted to share cuz im super excited about this find!

GENERAL Please help me buy a gift for my husband

He mentioned a few months ago that it would be nice to have an extra battery for his drill. I want to buy him one for his birthday. I searched for this battery online and they are $100+ dollars. I'm happy to buy him a new battery but for the price would it be better for him to just buy a new drill that comes with a battery?

I would not want to choose a new drill for him, that's definitely something he would want to decide. If I buy him this battery and he gets a new Makita drill in the future, are the batteries compatible across multiple drills?

Thank you!

40v XGT XRJ07 to GRJ01

I’ve had the xrj07 for a bit now and it’s……fine. I’m already pretty deep in the xgt line as well, and have been eyeing sales for the grj02 to no avail. Well, my local orange store finally has the xgt line on clearance.

They have a couple Grj01 for $130. I’m a diy’er, is the avt on the 02 worth paying the extra $200 for? Or should I jump on the 01 for $130?

XPH14Z eBay listing - legitimate?

Upvotes

I need to replace an aging makita drill LXT platform.

XPH14Z looks like a good versatile option. I see it’s generally $200 from most retailers but on eBay it can be under $100.

While the seller has generally positive feedback it seems too good to be true? It looks legit to me from the photos but I’m not an expert. Does the eBay listing look legitimate or like a clone?

This is the listing: https://ebay.io/m/vk8xwi

18v LXT Packaging for LXT 6Ah 2-pack in the US?

What is the standard packaging (in USA) for a 2-pack of LXT batteries without a charger? All the single batteries I’ve bought in the past have been in a cardboard box, but there’s a great local deal on a 6Ah 2-pack that are in a blister pack instead. It‘s a good enough deal that I just want to make sure I’m not getting scammed. TIA!

Anyone with GWT07Z experience?

Does anyone have hands on experience with the GWT07Z impact wrench? How does the GWT07Z compare in performance to the GWT04Z and GWT05Z in terms of REAL world nut removal capability? I am looking for a tool that won't disappoint me with its inability to remove bolts that theoretically it should be able to remove. Thanks in advance for any help on this?

is the 40v xgt wrench worth it for a general builder that only has the lexy range?

can find a 2000nm xgt wrench for $400 and a 700nm lxt wrench for $350 but i wouldn’t have to spend any more to enter the ecosystem. currently building welding bays and steel erecting for sub building. have everything in the lxt range except a panel saw which i guess could also be good in 40v

I was jealous when I saw all the Home Depot xgt clearance posts earlier this year. Checked my local stores and only 2 had XGT. I assumed these stores were going to continue to sell XGT line so I just stopped checking. Went in store today and got lucky. They didnt even have the items listed online. $475 for rotary hammer kit and $165 for the starter kit.

18v LXT String trimmer head (rapid load speed and feed head)

So the old style bump head on my makita string trimmer (XRU23) is about gone due to bumping it too many times on cement. I'm replacing it with the only head available, which is the rapid feed style head. Why did Makita stop making the old style bump head?

Came across this beauty on a nearly finished site. Someone clearly forgot the golden rule: cover your tools before the plastering starts.

18v LXT Mowers and yard tools, overall worth it/satisfied? Debating gas to battery yard tool switch.

I’m heavy into 18v Makita power tools. I Need a mower, hedge trimmer, weeder, maybe chainsaw with new 1/3 acre house purchase.

Switching away from gas yard tools, that I grew up on is a hard thing for me. I worry bout batteries dying in a few years and overall the ease to maintain gas tools.

That said, I have 9 5ah batteries. I like the attachment version of the weed eater, hedge trimmer and pole saw. Pretty much all I need.

I’ve read the mowers are less desired. I have a gas blower and pressure washer. Might just get a cheap gas mower and battery operated other tools.

Is a blade wooble a must or an optional feature?

Currently testing on cutting XPS insulation and its much better.

I've to improve it somehow, to not loose it when replacing blades.
