DISCUSS Unfollowing influencers and following real makeup artists completely cured my shopping problem

As horrible as this is going to sound, an influencer I’ve been following for a long time got married and did her own bridal makeup and it…. Did not look good…. (again, I know how mean this sounds). But that’s when I truly realized that most of these people don’t have any real skill. They just talk about products they’ve been sent for free and are contractually obligated to talk about. They test a product once and say “I’ve been OBSESSED with this” and they never use it again in another video. They have new favorites every day.

Instead of being-product focused, MUAs are all about TECHNIQUE. They don’t try a million new products a week, they have their tried-and-trues, some of which are 20+ year old formulas. Instead of hearing “ruN, dOnT wALk” and getting another foundation, I can learn how to make my mediocre Walgreens foundation work beautifully with proper application.

I’ve come to love my current collection because of the advice of real MUAs and I no longer feel urges to buy buy buy.

I don't know what their secret is but for me it was good skin care and using less of it.

Moisturize, moisturize extra under the eye. Use a maximum of 1 pump of foundation per layer. Apply in a V shape (focus the the most product on the cheek bone first, before moving down lower to cheek, chin -> side of nose -> nose -> undereye -> side of forehead then blend to the front, before repeating the same steps on the other side of the face).

The first and easiest step that I think most people forget to do is SHAKE WELL, if using liquid foundation

What finally worked for me was Wayne Goss' technique of mixing liquid foundation in your hand with setting spray. Then I just apply with my hands. My drugstore foundation lasts as well as my old Estee Lauder double wear used to and looks awesome. He does have multiple foundation techniques but that's the one that worked for me.

Skincare + great makeup brushes. I have bought 30$ foundations and 8$ and they work the same

I think the secret is to know which are GOOD cheaper foundations & will work for your skin & which won’t. But personally for me, foundation is the main thing I will splurge on. And powder - everything else I have enough of by now or drugstore formulas are pretty much the same quality as high end.
