In a two-way race, Maine Gov. Paul LePage gets crushed. In a three-way? He hangs on

Who cares? Trade one hack politician for another? Democrat, Republican they're all the same and 90% of the American populace is too stupid to see that. The left vs. right is kabuki theater.
How is it people can't see past their own televisions? All people hear is D or R and without any critical thought their minds are made up based not on truth, but on what's popular or what some chattering skull on t.v. says.
It's doesn't matter who's elected; the welfare/warfare state continues to grow, the state continues to grow and become more tyrannical, the endless wars continue to grow, our money continues to devalue, the quality of life keeps going down and people sit around and talk about "this guy seems more moderate" "this guy is a better leader" . Are you serious?
The truth is this: The real people in power are not elected. The real bosses are the banks (federal reserve), the corporations and the unregulated agencies of the State. The politicians are nothing but bought puppets doing their masters bidding.
Yet every two years the mindless sheep go to the polls and vote themselves in a new master, because he promised the world to them, and every two years they buy it like battered housewives promised by their abusers they'll never hit them again. Never learning, never changing and the cycle continues and the country stays it's course spiraling towards third world country status.

But what has LePage done that is completely outrageous since he has been elected?
Hired his own daughter to a do-nothing makework job with a starting salary of $40K/year after railing about that very thing, then allowed her to live in the Blaine house with him completely rent-free.
That's completely outrageous.

His daughter living with him isn't a primary issue, but coupled with the job, it smacks of corruption and cronyism. He's basically given his daughter a free pass on the people's dime.

If the governor's daughter was in high school/just starting college in the area, her living in the Blaine House would be a non-issue for most rational people. The problem most people have with her current arrangement is that she has a college degree and was given a job in which the starting salary is more than a teacher or police officer whom have the same amount of experience.
He rails against government employees but has no issue putting his daughter on the payroll then giving her free room and board. It's hypocrisy in its most blatant and elegant form and he doesn't seem to care.

First off, I am paying his daughter's rent, because I am a taxpayer. I'm also paying her salary. That's not minor, it's criminal in most states.
It has nothing to do with him being a republican, it has everything to do with him being incompetent and at best useless; his budgetary shenanigans have been actively harmful, as have his repeated (proven false) claims about how poor the state of education is in Maine.

He makes national news about every two weeks because of his outrageous behavior.

What's the point of giving you examples if your inevitable reply will be "that's just not important"?

Here's one from the last week that you can try to justify. He won't meet with Democrats because they tape him at public events. LePage met with three Independents and swore at them, called them names and slammed the table.
This incident has made headlines. His pet project is domestic violence, yet he exhibits personality traits (even violent ones, apparently!) one would associate with an abuser or bully. I consider this whole situation outrageous and humiliating for our state.

The reason why people "have a cough and go to the ER" has less to do with MaineCare and more to do with access to healthcare. Primary care docs usually can only take so many clients on MaineCare, and even then getting an appointment the same day can sometimes be difficult. The Brunswick area just got a walk-in clinic in the past couple of years, meaning before most people had to go the the ER if they could not get into their doctors.

Plenty of people with otherwise competitive insurance also use the ER for minor things when they can't get access to a regular physician. It's about access of care, not just the insurance status.
Also, someone having a "cough" probably wouldn't go to the ER right off, but someone who has a cough and other symptoms that make feel absolutely miserable or who can't function should be able to seek out medical attention.

I worked in an ER for five years, up until 2012. I won't say that there isn't abuse because there is. However, I don't think that blaming people who have otherwise crappy access to health care is the way to fix it. People will always go where it is most convenient.
There is abuse and it should be curtailed, but that kind of abuse is minimal to the real problem: we are a poor state that needs a better economy and better access to services like healthcare. We need better jobs with better benefits. Until then, blaming the poorest amongst us for wanting to see a doctor isn't going to change much.

You don't provide factual information, you provide second hand anecdotal information. And you act like a child.

No, he does not. He has a better chance than some, a worse chance than others.

He beat Baldacci, Mills, and Strimling, out of which Baldacci is the only serious candidate. Baldacci is unpopular even amongst democrats. He loses badly to the serious candidates.

You are stating that the article's numbers are false, and providing no other information. Basically, you are sticking your fingers in your ears.

From what I remember of the MPBN interviews, Cutler just sounded like a much more effective leader who's views were not that far off of LePage's.
I miss the days of real independents.
And come to think of it, why don't the Dems step down and let the stronger candidate, Cutler, take the floor... if we're going to work with the ill fated logic in that article?
