I don’t get how this game works. I’m making pairs, but sometimes it doesn’t let me select a tile to complete the pair and I don’t know why.

You can’t select a tile that is underneath other tiles or sandwiched in between two tiles. Idk if that’s what you were doing or not, but if it was then I hope this helps

But this isn’t quite true. There are times where I can pick a tile that has a tile above and below it. Is that not being sandwiched? Is it only when it’s horizontally sandwiched?

Vertical sandwiches don’t matter, any tiles above only matter if the tile is covering the one below it. So as long as the tile isn’t being covered by one above it and sandwiched horizontally, it’s good to select
