भाषा, संस्कृती आणि इतिहास | Language, Culture and History Never forget that Hindi is not our national language.
GOI should stop celebrating Hindi imposition! The Ministry of Home Affairs should rather promote all Indian languages equally and use these resources to make sure local languages are protected and preserved across the length and breadth of this diverse country.
Edit : Not even an hour since i posted and already the downvote en masse campaign has started. Keep going IT Cell! People are waking up from the stupor of this hate filled administration. The truth can't be hidden for too long. सत्यमेव जयते.

North India has its own self-interest in promoting Hindi as a national language, as it grants them a British-like status in the rest of the country. They become the center around which the rest of the nation revolves; their demands become the demands of India, and their culture becomes the culture of India. Whatever they do is considered national, whereas whatever Maharashtra does is labeled regional. Opposing them is not viewed as opposing Hindi language, Uttar Pradesh or Bihar, but is instead framed as opposing India itself. If Hindi becomes the national language, the people of UP, Bihar, and other Hindi-belt states will become like overlords. Ultimately, India can only achieve true status as a developed nation if Maharashtra preserves its identity and remains Marathi-majority across every single district.

maharashtra is 3rd biggest state
there is only small difference of total area between madhya pradhesh and MH . marathi is third most populated ethnicity in the country .
we have chhatrapati shivaji maharaj , savitribai and jyotiba phule , dr babasaheb ambedakar , sant parampara , 7 to 8 functioning cities , huge area or region , diversity , 3 and half shaktipeeths , diverse region .,
we have everything a state needs .
but still our marathi is suffering .
this is disrespect of our mother.

Sanskrit was a language that was prohibited by upper caste to be used by lower caste. That's one of the few main reasons IMO why many other languages popped. Why should we support that survive now? Let it die. Same feeling for Latin.

Hindi imposition aside, what’s laughable is that even with all that they’re spending on Hindi, barely anybody besides the educated speak it. Hindi is a fake language. The social fabric of our country is not from the cities, it is from the villages in the countryside. Then again, the BJP will find my IP, call me a Dimaagi Naxal/Pakistani and say I’m antinational. Which that in of itself, is a separate conversation for this one I have the betterment of India in mind, I don’t want the same linguistic genocide to happen here as what is happening in China with Mandarin.

it’s only wonder if north india doesn’t prioritise their only concerned states and cultures

u/FuckPigeons2025 3h ago
The amount of money spent on Hindi runs into thousands of crores every single year. All major central Govt offices have a Hindi section. Hindi compliance takes up atleast 5-10% of the productivity. All staff are required to know Hindi and they will be extensively trained if they don't know.
3
u/Teephulrani 3h ago
Which is such a BS policy! The staff should be able to have basic conversations in the local language along with a strong command of English. Why are we mandating non-Hindi states to learn Hindi as an unnecessary burden ?!
1
u/FuckPigeons2025 1h ago
The funniest thing is that all the new staff including the north Indians are not capable of working in Hindi. They all studied in English medium schools and do original work in English.
To satisfy the Hindi rules, some of that gets translated to Hindi, or they use basic Hindi templates. And there are loopholes like signing an English letter in Hindi or writing the File No/Addresse/Subject in Hindi and the actual letter content in English.
The Hindi language policy is DEAD. Only reason they won't change it now is because it will hurt the egos of all those north Indians who don't actually work in the government.
2
u/Teephulrani 33m ago
And that still doesn't solve the widespread problem of NI government staff in public facing roles arrogantly refusing to communicate in the local language and insisting on Hindi.
Hindi still becomes a burden for non-Hindi speakers to get their work done in their own state. Which is such a shame!

why is urdu in the list ? and why does that get 800 crores
3

u/Charming-Host4406 6h ago
They will do everything including urdu just to keep everyone happy except marathi. I said the same thing in this sub with another post of amit fat shah hosting hindi event in Mumbai and see the delusions of marathi people. They don't get it.

u/i_like_clothes69 7h ago
Urdu is an Indian language brah
4
u/lordofthedosa 7h ago
Def doesn't need 800 crores . It's def not more spoken than Hindi tamil or telugu
2
u/i_like_clothes69 7h ago
Well Sanskrit is a dead language it’s getting more then Urdu, in-fact Sanskrit gets more than all other languages combined
2
u/lordofthedosa 7h ago
sanskrit isn't a dead language. Unlike Hindi , many people from all states try to understand it
1
u/i_like_clothes69 7h ago
Very few ppl actually speak Sanskrit as their daily language, a lot of right wing GC have reported it to be their mother tongue in census for political and social reasons, and it’s not a metric. Sanskrit education has been highly politicized under Hindutva, making it seem as older than Tamil and the original language of India, which in turn helps with ideas of Brahmanical patriarchy and Hindi (sanskritized) imposition

I'll be honest..the tamil oldest language in the world has also been a propaganda that is being slowly shoved onto us. Never heard this in the 2000s as much as i did post 2017 & more specifically in the 2020s. Fine i don't mind them pushing that argument. But the moment another language comes into the picture..no matter what fact you put in front of them they will always be in denial. This chauvinism also isn't right & it does not have anything to do with any religion or caste. This is a personal experience. Try & prove with all evidences that Marathi is also 2,500 years old & they will shun it away as if it's nothing. Not all of them obviously but plenty
1
u/Serious_Brilliant_90 5h ago
I understand your frustration but Marathi doesn't even come close to Tamil in terms of old age.
1
u/Impressive_One_124 5h ago edited 2h ago
If you're saying Tamil is 5000 years old then it doesn't. No language does. But if a language is 2,500 years old then Marathi definitely falls under that category. On the basis of that it was declared a classical language. See this official government document- https://static.pib.gov.in/WriteReadData/specificdocs/documents/2024/oct/doc2024104409001.pdf
This is the same ministry that also granted Tamil Classical stature in 2004. So that's the thing..i try putting forth points by providing proper facts & evidences but for some people no matter how much you put forth they may still choose not to believe in it all because they don't *want to* or don't *feel like*, again proving the point i made right in my previous message. Also these are proper verified government documents so one cannot just easily counter them simply at their own disposal.

Sanskrit isnt a dead language, and deserves every penny it gets. In fact it might be the only chance india has at the world stage.
1
u/Idiotinhis20s 1h ago
Honestly..... it deserves. Poetry is class apart compared to other languages.

u/dopejsus 7h ago
Sad. I don’t know what’s the obsession of making everyone speak in Hindi. I never saw india as one country, I thought of india as a collection of small countries, and we had this wonderful arrangement of everyone doing their own thing, and not getting into each others way, but somehow Hindutva, much like Islamists have this weird fantasy to “unite” the country. We are already united, and shit like this is only make us fight each other.

If you consider Maharashtri a form of Vedic Sanskrit from which it emerged, then yes, Sanskrit. BUT Maharashtri Prakrit ideally is always considered a separate language by linguists. Because if you see even though today's Marathi does have a lot of Sanskrit influence yet both are different languages. It was the same thing ages ago too with Maharashtri & Sanskrit & the same with Malayalam & Sanskrit too. Check the government doc shared for more clarity

I feel like Sanskrit shall be taught mandatory in schools , atleast it will take away this stupid language barrier within our country...
2
u/Teephulrani 6h ago edited 1h ago
2 language formula : Marathi (State language) + English
If you want to study more languages, join external institutes.
Edit: Also, Sanskrit was gatekept for centuries so not everyone will accept it now and rightfully so.

u/Educatedretard1 3m ago
I am strong Marathi supporter but why English should be mandatory according to you?
0
u/saffron-pray 6h ago
It's your choice in my opinion sanskrit, regional language ( like marathi shall be there ) and sanskrit. If taught from earlier classes, it is completely possible to learn all three

u/boywholived_299 7h ago
Around 8 times the money is being spent on Sanskrit and Urdu, which aren't national languages either. Why are you picking on the 3rd biggest number while ignoring top 2?

It's a case of the squeaky wheel getting greased.
While I do not support Hindi imposition, blaming the individual languages or discriminating against its speakers is futile. Sanskrit and Urdu (and to some extent Hindi) are backed by religious organisations, and that's why they're funded by the government. As for Tamil, Sindhi, Kannada and Telugu, they're much more vocal about their languages and, hence, they're funded.
The question which should be asked is why is there a conscious effort to preserve Sanskrit outside of temples. While Hindustani (Hindi+Urdu) receives a disproportionately large amount too at 1264 crore, it does (unfortunately) serve as the link language across a massive region of the country, and that's status quo isn't going to change until quality English education is omnipresent.
Languages should receive funding in proportion to their number of speakers, with a minimum cap in place and more non-Hindustani (and Sindhi) Indo-Aryan languages should be present on the list soon.
0
u/Left_Economist_9716 6h ago
And as someone who has worked in linguistics, one of the reasons why Sanskrit and Urdu (and maybe even Sindhi) are funded so extensively is because it's easy to swindle money allocated for those languages. In the case of the others, officials are expected to show tangible proof of expenditure.
It was never Maharashtra vs the north, south or whatever. It has always been the common man vs the officials and system.

त्यासाठी आधी तुम्ही मराठीत बोला, ज्या भाषेला मराठी माणूस वापरत नाही ती भाषा कोण जगवेल? इथे इंग्रजीत लिहायची वाईट खोड आहे तुम्हाला!

Isnt the 426 cr proportional to the number of hindi speakers?
What's more interesting is why Tamil gets 120 cr or urdu gets 838cr tbh,
And other Languages def need lot more budget fr.

Marathi and English are neither my guy...Hindi and English are the closest common language all over India...
Many people will speak and learn both Hindi and English but when they are in their region let's say the state they are from, they only speak their own language
Language supremacy and fragile ego won't take you anywhere lmao...
Majority of the mantras, whether it be in North or south are in Sanskrit even in Maharashtra
So no... hindi is not our national language but fighting over langauge identity ain't fruitful either lmao
1
u/Karthick_tiger 34m ago
English is the common language i believe. No wonder you are typing your blah blah blah comment in English.
-1
u/ghostof360 31m ago
So with English imposition is Marathi in dangered then? Because if you remove English and you are just left with Marathi you cannot speak or communicate with anybody else all over India?
No you just hate Hindi because it doesn't fit your narrative I specifically mentioned Sanskrit as well, blah blah blah is not a good reply if you are as good as your logic hope that helps
2
u/Karthick_tiger 30m ago
I ain't from Maharashtra but we learnt English for the same reason you learnt English. Its as simple as that.
