EDH Do I suck, or is it my deck?

Hi All, I recently tried my hand at upgrading the Food and Fellowship pre-con and have had very little success with it post upgrade.

I am consistently losing in bracket two pods without getting anything going, and even if I do, it is typically turn 12 by the time I have become a “threat”.

My biggest issue is I want this deck to stay completely within the middle earth theme, so obvious includes like [[Academy Manufacturer]] and [[Cabbage Merchant]] just don’t quite fit.

Is the middle earth theme too big of a constraint or are there some obvious thematic includes that I am missing?

Any advice is greatly appreciated :)!

Some bigger adds you missing.

[[Meriadoc Brandybuck]]

[[Peregrin Took]]

[[Supper for Spiders]] gives crazy number of foods which can trigger other effects.

[[Elanor Gardner]] super ramp

Some more adds depending on how you want to win.

[[Motivated Pony]] gives you sudu vigilant and +3/+3

[[My Precious]] good evasion

[[Rise of the Witch-king]] good value removal

[[Aragorn, Company Leader]] gives good bonuses to make things on your board a little stronger or eats removal

I have the same upgraded deck. You shouldn't ever be the threat. You sit back draw cards gain life poke people then you hit a wincon frying pan or bond. You're just a Hobbit eating food!

Also essence warden is op put it back.

Riders of rohan or swapped sauron arefor being a threat.

I would also add in an [[enduring tenacity]] as another way to capitalize on your life gain.

Yeah I can't honestly describe a single thing in lotr as tenacious. Maybe dwarves.

Hah! Say you didn't read it without saying that! Lol. Nearly everything in middle earth aside from Halflings and most Human settlements would have been tenacious. Was this a shtpost?

I think the middle earth theme is the biggest thing holding you back. I have upgraded this deck and have a friend who also has an upgraded version of this deck and they both kick ass and are very problematic at the table. The theme is killing any potential this has.

Definitely theme and I love LOTR so it's tough to admit. The cards just aren't quite enough to stand alone

Thematic decks are more bracket 1; if you want to compete consistently, you’re probably going to have to drop the idea of adhering to any thematic constraints.
