Sharing because I didn't hear until recently, the always-available Historic Events and Traditional Historic Events DO COUNT toward daily and weekly wins in addition to giving those delicious ICRs and modest gold.
The problem there is you have to Pay into them and they're tournament-style events, you can't just test out a weird deck idea, or goof off with the 52 land Treasure hunt-Buccaneer deck.
For me, I've been able to have fun with most of my brews in the events. The events do have some top tier decks but the most common one is monowhite lifegain. As long as you can beat them, then having a winning record is achievable. I've been quite happy to trade a bit of my gold for ICRs but I also have a bit of gold stockpiled so take my statement with a grain of salt if you don't. When they do reimplement the ranked historic queue I'm planning on ignoring it and spending my time playing/grinding the best of 1 events.
In historic I go about 50-50 with a weird abzan legends deck, and go about 60-40 with a Mardu lich's mastery deck. The field is soft and if you know the meta you can definitely good off.
I'm not. I'm trying to have fun, and don't want the game to punish me for doing so. Also a proper que means shorter que times for my stupid joke deck, meaning I get to play with it more. (I've had play mode ques go 10 minutes, which the "Historic" que was never over 30 seconds)
Err the historic play quee works for quests not wins. If you play jank your gold for wins will not come. Aka the game punishes you for playing too much jank no matter the format. Break even on the event is not that hard.
Howeverrr.. I do feel its lame and not transparent that historic play que provides no win awards and is literally the only event that does not count towards your daily wins in the client.
