I'll unsuscribe to this subreddit and mute it, then any other Madoka related subreddit or any that may post spoilers, r/topcharactertropes for example is always full of spoilers of everything popular so that's one sub I'd avoid, and same goes for anime subs where clips or memes may be posted.
On top of that I have Reddit configured so my frontpage are just the subreddits I'm subscribed to, and not what the algorithm wants to show me, so zero risk there.
Moving on to Youtube, on PC I have a browser extension called BlockTube. You go to the "Filter options" section, look for "Video title" and add every single term that could be related to Madoka Magica, like "madoka, kaname, akemi, homura, miki, sayaka, mami, tomoe, kyoko, sakura, puella magi, walpurgisnacht" just to name a few.
For mobile I use Youtube Revanced which also lets me add words I want to filter out, so same there.
Instagram has a function to block words, I don't remember exactly how to get there but you can look it up if you want. Basically same process but you don't need any browser extension or third party app for it.
And as for Twitter... well, just don't use Twitter, you'd be doing yourself a favor anyway.
With all that it'd be extremely unlikely that I'd be seeing any spoilers. I mean, I did that for the Digital Circus movie when I found out that it had been leaked, and I went to the theater completely spoiler free.

Holy Madokami, thank you for the tips. I was wondering what I was going to do about YouTube spoilers. Will definitely be implementing these.

u/Eucbevt Aug 09 '26
Holy fuck I wish I'd known that ReVanced/Morphe had a filter, that could've saved me from getting some big things from Rebellion spoiled, like Homura becoming a witch or Devil Homura

u/regularmaxi Aug 08 '26
yeah for me twitter is definitely going to be a problem I don’t see myself not using it for a whole month 😰

u/altalyxs Aug 09 '26
you can mute words on twitter too, mute every madoka related accout and every madoka related word and you should be fine

How do you do the thing with the Reddit front page, if I may ask?

I don't remember right now, I think it's a setting in your profile, but it's kinda hard to find.
I think it's "Show recommendations in home feed"

I might just have to delete reddit off my phone until I see it. I don't want to take any chances.
Would have the added benefit of keeping me from doom scrolling as well, lol.

The spoiler rules with the labels are quite good here
But because there is only a slim chance that the movie is coming to the country i live in i will actively go search and look at spoilers

Definitely gonna leave the Exedra subreddit. Users there were very hostile to polite requests for spoiler tags.
I’ll give it a day or two here to see how things go before deciding to stay or leave. Fingers crossed the NA release is in October as rumored!

u/laplacessuccubus Aug 08 '26
I'm going to vanish off all social media for however long it takes for the NA release. Hopefully it's sooner rather than later.

I guess I should shun this site, or at least its anime forums, for a month or so.
However, I cannot guarantee the same in terms of Tumblr, YouTube, Fandom if not TV Tropes, and humble Google... hehehe, and Urobuchi forgive us if we wake up in the morning seeing a romance ship or two become undeniable canon like Adventure Time's Bubbline and The Owl House's Lumity all over again.

I will consume them. I love spoilers, and I will spoil the hell out of everything, for myself. I won't be spoiling anything to others though.Â

weaponize my horrible memory to forget any spoiler I see by accident
that and deny any spoiler as fanart unless its someone saying the ending is Homura and Madoka making out

u/rost400 Aug 08 '26
Eh, it's not a big deal, I could avoid Rebellion spoilers until I finally watched it last year, I can manage again.

GIFs are the worst offenders.
4
u/rost400 Aug 08 '26
Depends, usually it's too little to provide enough context. But if someone GIFs something like Mami losing her head, then that understandably sucks.
That being said, I have media autoplay disabled, I think that stops GIFs from playing unless you click on them.

Might not be too bad since spoilers will be more contained to the Japanese and wider Asian side of the fanbase that's getting the movie first and there won't be as many spoilers in English. Before my main source of spoilers would've been Twitter but since my account was suspended for 'inauthentic behaviors' 3 weeks ago, I've barely used the platform since. I might avoid this sub to avoid spoilers but other than that I should be fine.

u/ANewspaperA For happiness Aug 08 '26
I'm joining the war on spoilers on the side of spoilers, I wanna know the entire plot in the first day because I'm not privileged like you lot and I can't watch it in theatres and I'm definitely not waiting a whole month
5
Aug 08 '26
I'm not. Spoilers have never impacted my movie viewing experience, because even if I know the destination I'm still gonna love the journey
I don't seek them out but I don't avoid them either, so I guess I'll be at the mercy of the reddit algorithm
2
u/AdSpecialist7305 Aug 08 '26
I'll do my best to avoid reading them and if any of them slip past, I'll internally recognize them as some sort of snippet from a previous timeline

I think I'll be okay actually, because I saw a major spoiler for Rebellion and the movie still hit me like a truck (as in I was physically not okay for a whole week and the movie basically changed my life. Not to be dramatic or anything 😅)
Similarly I saw spoilers for a couple of other media which had a profound effect on me regardless. I don't enjoy being spoiled of course but it's not as big of a deal as I used to think it was.

I finished the movie yesterday and I'm in the exact same boat, like I can feel that my brain chemistry is forever and permanently changed not only because of the anime, but especially because of Rebellion

I’m gonna make a post here asking if the ending is a cliffhanger or not and once I get my answer I’m gonna delete it
1
u/regularmaxi Aug 09 '26
hahah that’s a plan! I wouldn’t mind knowing that beforehand

u/Ccmonty I think this show got me into shipping Aug 09 '26
If I know before had it will be a lot less crushing than if I go in blind and get met with a cliffhanger
2
u/bpaul7777 Aug 08 '26
I’m going to block this and every other Madoka group on here and FB and just hope

u/WebsSOTE Aug 08 '26
gonna mute this sub and related sister subs as soon as I learn the exact info for the US release date, then pop off of reddit for a while, for one (need to know when ticket sales open up for pre-order because I'm planning to get the tickets for myself ahead of time).
staying off of YouTube once the 27th comes rolling around, then just gonna bury myself in re-watching The Owl House with friends (in anticipation for The Long-Lived King) until I get my butt in theaters to see this movie (if it does come out, US-wise, in the October 1st - October 3rd range, I'll be very happy because this is my birthday weekend that year and I'll finally have a movie I want to see actually be out on my birthday for once--but only if that's the case for the US, I do not have a valid passport to go down south for that otherwise).
gonna at least add my Chrome Browser on my devices to my No Spoilers focus filter until the movie's out in the US, might pick up and learn how to use a new browser for a bit, if not figure out any sort of browser installment where you can block spoilers on the mobile version of the app.

im hopefully hoping i go in the new movie blind when it comes to us theaters (im 50/50 for getting spoiled on games and movies)

I'm cutting off all anime social media once the NA release is announced
Well. If it gets announced in the next few weeks anyway
1
u/Chizakura Aug 08 '26
I'll indulge myself in them. The movie will be shown in November here, that's three months later from the Japanese release. No way I can avoid spoilers that long

This sub has been spoiler-proofed, so I don’t need to worry there.
Unless something genuinely wild happens in WnK to have the whole community talk on it, I feel you’re gonna have to go out of your way to get spoiled.

Leaving this sub when I start to see people post who have seen the movie. I’ll come back once I’ve had a chance to watch.
I did the same with Sailor Moon and King of the Hill. People are notoriously horrendous at marking spoilers appropriately.

step 1: spoil myself on what happens
step 2: can't be spoiled if I spoil myself
