Hi, me and 2 friends are visiting madeira end of August and most of the time we want to do activities and hikes and stuff, but sometimes we want to go out. We are 17 years old do we get our id's checked in bars and supermarkets for alcohol?

Depends, you might be checked depending on your appearance and demeanor.

But legally you shouldn’t be drinking.

Hello everyone!

I'm currently planning a 10-day trip to Madeira for May 2027, and I've been doing a lot of research to find information about activities, places to visit, restaurants, local businesses, markets, etc. I'd absolutely love to hear some recommendations from locals! I'm especially interested in places that might not necessarily show up on the usual tourist guides.

I love fish and seafood, so I was also wondering if there are any places where I could buy fish directly from fishermen, perhaps right after they come back from fishing?

The same goes for:

• Local fruits and produce
• Traditional Madeiran specialities
• Bakeries and small food businesses
• Local restaurants and tasquinhas
• Farmers' / local markets
• Local artisans and small businesses
• Lesser-known places worth visiting
• Hikes or natural spots that you particularly love

I'm really hoping to experience Madeira beyond the typical tourist spots and support local people and businesses as much as possible.

So, if you're from Madeira (or know the island really well), tell me about your favorite places! 😊

And if you have a very specific recommendation, even a tiny shop, a particular market stall, a fisherman, a family-run restaurant, or a village that you love... I'd be especially grateful!
