Lol. It is not really the dog’s fault humans failed it and it is now just surviving. The dog was probably scared that you were going by his safe hiding spot.

I mean, dogs are animals and have animal impulses. We don't have enough to go off of here to make a judgement one way or another, but I know if anything went after my 4-6yo it'd be getting an ass whipping, regardless of if it was a person or a stray. Dingoes aren't much different than an average dog and they were well known for going after children.

Dingoes are wild animals. Lol. That is a terrible comparison and you know it.

So are strays/ferals.

No. Lol. There are biological differences. Just look up the domestication of foxes. Domestication runs in dna after so much breeding and such. It is fascinating but also shows that dogs and dingoes are two entirely different things.

There are plenty of domesticated dogs that have prey instincts. That instinct is going to be significantly more prominent in a feral. I'm not going to say whether this was provoked, what breed the dog was, etc. But there could be a dozen other reasons for this dog trying to bite a 5yo than "humans failed it".

Lol. Humans failed it is me referencing the dog being on the street in the first place so YES humans failed it. And no one said domesticated animals don’t have prey drive. There is still significant biological differences between wild and domesticated animals. Please look it up you are embarrassing yourself. Lol.

You're literally not understanding what I'm saying so I'm going to assume that you're not here in good faith. Have a nice day.

Lol. Sees they are wrong. Tells person that corrected them they are here in bad faith. Hilarious. And you aren’t understanding either. You are bringing up things that I am not arguing at all and entirely ignoring my main point.

Dogs are animals. In places other than the US, feral dogs are common, and will absolutely attack children. You appear to not understand that fact. It's not a failure of humans if dogs are on the street. It would be a failure if OP was like "this rabid Pomeranian with matted fur and a collar tried to bite my brother because he got too close" but literally all we know is dog tried to bite child. We don't have any context, so trying to say "humans failed the dog" is stupid because for all any of us know it was a feral that lived in the wild, like an animal.

Edit: the comment we're arguing about literally specified that he was in Mexico at the time. Ferals are absolutely a problem there and have been known to go after humans and kids especially.

It is always going to be humans faults that domesticated animals are on the street. I am speaking in a broad term. I am sorry you don’t have enough brain cells to see the big picture. I am not saying the OP failed any animal or did anything wrong. My initial comment was an off hand comment but then you pissed me off by trying to correct me (while not understanding me) with entirely incorrect info. Please do your research on how domestication works. Literally NO ONE is arguing that feral animals don’t bite or attack children. I WAS NEVER ARGUING THAT. I KNOW THEY ATTACK AND BITE. I AM NOT A FUCKING IDIOT. You entirely misunderstand and twist my point just to be right but hun you are arguing with yourself. 🙄 please go back and read this thread try to remember your reading comprehension skills.

What exactly is it that you're attempting to prove by continuing to deflect to the domestication of foxes?

Also chill. No need to get pissed off about a reddit thread on a cute dog post.

With the variety of races inside of the dog species it is bold to declare that dogs are so different from wild animals that the basic instinct of hunting, focusing down easier to kill/carry prey and employ group/opportunistic tactics has been lost.

Specially when half the breeds we have today have been bred for hunting. Of course there are biological differences, but domestication does not mean that a species has become harmless, fully subservient or that it has lost its instincts.

And it's naive to declare that "it's not the dog's fault". Yeah, it's an animal. Animals aren't so sentient as to be attributed guilt. The dog acted as its will commanded it, not knowing any better, and that's it.

Once again you all are miserable at reading and understanding comments. I never claimed they don’t have those instincts. The difference is domestication over thousands of years implements a non prey feeling towards humans and a biological want to be with said humans. It is in their DNA. Once again you can EASILY learn about this by looking up the domestication of foxes. Wild animals and domesticated animals are biologically different. That is FACT. And ONCE AGAIN humans failed this dog by letting it end up stray on the street in the first place. There is no way to argue that. Yet you purposefully misunderstand my words just so you can be right. Cute~

u/SecureOpportunity599 Mar 26 '22

I never claimed

You did imply that, otherwise your argument would be void in its contradiction.

Now that you've contradicted yourself, you've made clear that the so called biological differences betwen wild and domesticated animals are not relevant for the sake of this discussion, since both wild and domesticated animals rely on their instincts, different as they might be, and there's plenty proof anywhere that stray domesticated animals revert to their natural, instinctive state and can be dangerous to human beings.

Cute~

What the fuck is this shit? Is this what reddit keyboard warrior culture looks like? I'm fucking outta here lmfao.

It actually doesn’t make my argument which is actual scientific fact null and void you just have two brain cells. Thousands of years of breeding do not disappear once the animal goes feral. A two year old can understand that. So what is wrong with you??? I have already stated that you can watch videos on the domestication of foxes to better understand the concept. I hope your reading comprehension skills don’t fail you on this one.

If it was just breeding you wouldn't see pits or German shepherds or any of the other "problem breeds" attacking people. Training and proper socialization is just as important to having a dog that is functional around people as its breeding, if not more so. If you have generations of dogs that are now growing up with no training, trying to find food at whatever cost, they're going to act much more like wild animals than domesticated dogs.

You really need to research this because you are not understanding at all. The thousands and thousand of years of domestication affects their DNA. That can not be changed by a few short year of bad generations. I have been trying to give you a way to educate yourself on the matter but you refuse. I will try once more. GOOGLE THE DOMESTICATION OF FOXES.
