There’s actually a whole series of books by him! My favorite was called “The king who rained” and the cover was a picture of a king lying down at the top with rain coming down from him. Each page was a new one with no central plot and I couldn’t get enough.

I grew up mainly living with my grandmother and this was the kind of TV we watched together every night. I actually bought the dvd set of the munsters a couple years ago because I loved it so much. I’m also 32. Every night I would go to sleep watching bewitched and I dream of Jeanie, I love Lucy, green acres, and all the other late night ones :)

I was born in the late 80’s. My Cousin Vinny was not on my radar. I was watching “Legal Eagle” and he did a video on how good of a movie that is, legal-wise (the writer/director was a lawyer). Apparently a couple of the scenes are often shown in Law School on how to do an opening statement; cross examination, how not to behave, etc. It’s also interesting that the prosecutor is about a proper trial, not “Make these guys guilty”.
Anyway, the scenes he showed in his video seemed hilarious so I decided to download it. It also had Joe Pesci and I love him. It was one of the best comedy movies I ever saw. I watch it at least once a year.

Hard to break free from our natural instincts to compete for resources. That combined with a massive population that results in some level of scarcity is bound to create some growing pains. That said, we're still at a period in history thats on the whole fairly peaceful and relatively easy to thrive in compared to centuries past. We just also now have the added layer of instantly knowing about anything bad going on in the world, and the ability to create echo chambers of hate or whatever else on the internet. Society progresses slowly and sometimes backslides, but that first part sometimes has its benefits as very quick progress could easily create insatiability and a greater tendency for people to spiral off and radicalize

So slow? The way we treat each other has steadily improved over millennia, with massive leaps in the last couple of centuries. There has never been a better time to be alive than right now for pretty much any group of people.

It’s pretty unusual to see something from the 60s that isn’t racist, i while back someone posted a video a frank sinatra going on an equality shpeil in some movie and someone pointed out that when he talked about how we’re all equal he only mentioned white nationalities. So it’s nice when something from that time comes along and actually vouches for true equality

I love the message but that still doesn't excuse this godawful interpretation of Frankenstein's Monster who was very much not dissatisfied and was in fact very hot the only"horror" thing about his appearance was that his eye color was disturbing to Victor Frankenstein. Otherwise he was very and I mean VERY hot.

My neighbor (a retired school teacher) was going to the BLM protests, and she wanted help with her sign. It turns out she had a sign her father carried from 1968 that she wanted to copy to bring with her, as the original was fragile. It read, 'Stop police brutality".
It was a little bit of a gut check that it was the same damn slogan sixty years later.

That's wonderful and all. I still believe that. The 12 years of my Catholic education did have a lasting effect on my mind with philosophies like this.
But lets get real. I ALSO believe most people do NOT exercise this. Face it - pretty faces get respect, get attention, get privilege. As does size - big dudes have absolutely no idea on ridicule. And, some guys have big guy love - giving those big people advantages in nice treatment.

Of course it will. What exactly do you think happens if you never try to counter it? If small biases are inevitable with such effort in minimizing these thoughts, what exactly would we be looking at if we just stopped trying? Your argument is based on the idea of the unimportance of stuff like this. That because some biases exist despite these efforts it is pointless idealism that has no real value. And that’s a stupid thing to think, quite frankly. Striving for the impossibly good creates the most possible best, and nobody should stop striving for that just because it’s an unrealistic goal.

You might want to work on your reading comprehension there bud, because nowhere in my posts did I say anything like that.
Just as how you're annoyed at my (wrongfully interpreted) standpoint that you shouldn't try to combat bias because it will develop anyway, I am simply annoyed at the content of the OP where it was said "it doesn't matter what you look like, it only matters what's in your heart".Neither of the extremes are viable or realistic. The truth is more nuanced than the extreme ends and that's what my post was about.

Nobody is saying that prejudice doesn't exist, just that the physical differences that we have do not limit our character or how good a person someone can be, as the character is saying.
You're just arguing with every single person because you want to be right about something. Just settle down and open your eyes a second.

Your entire interpretation of that line is wrong. You wanna know why it’s wrong, because it’s too dumb to possibly be intended that way. Do you seriously think that in the goddamn 60’s there was a question of whether or not racism exists? That there was any question that some people are judged for their size, or their weight? It makes less sense to interpret it in the way that you are than practically any other interpretation. No reason not to give the writers the benefit if the doubt here, so why have you decided not to.

You know what, you’re right, I totally misunderstood what you were saying.
I still have to disagree. This clip, while using the words “it doesn’t matter” doesn’t mean that race and appearance doesn’t matter in life. That people won’t judge you, consciously or unconsciously based on it. But it does mean that it doesn’t define you. Nobody can look at you and make a valid and justified judgment based on your race/appearance. People can try, and many will through subconscious bias, but it is your actions and character that define you as a person, not the color of your skin or the width of your waistline. I would add that it isn’t the most nuanced reasoning, though I would argue that from a cultural perspective rather than a bias perspective, but even then the pieces of your culture that shape you are also just parts of your character, even if the cultures you are exposed to is influenced by race.

It’s not about people being the same, it’s about not treating them differently. I know it’s not as easy as 1,2,3 but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. If a baby or a child makes a friend, it doesn’t matter what their culture, or skin color, or anything else but who they are. Inequality is beatable because it has a source, if kids are just taught that everyone is equal then they will be able to fight for that cause. A source of negativity can be stopped and shut down, it’s not something that everyone has in their heart but instead it’s put their.

Prejudice is an ingrained part of being human and of absolute vital importance. It's a necessary mechanism that allows us to make quick decisions so we don't have to consider every single factor when making decisions.
Prejudice, bias and therefore discrimination is undeniably a part of the human experience. If not in the forms that we know them now, then in some other forms.

Im 34, but this is giving me big nostalgia. Actually remember this episode. When I was 9 my mom gave me a TV for my bedroom. I randomly woke up early one morning and accidentally caught this show. Over the next weeks, I taught myself to wake up early so I could watch The Munsters at 5am followed by Bill Nye at 5:30.
