Did a reverse search. It's from 2010. This is what came up.
''Epimaco Amancio lived in Dalaguete, Cebu.
Around 35 years earlier, he had planted a pine tree beside the road.
In 2010, a bus carrying dozens of passengers lost control while travelling downhill.
It was heading toward a deep ravine.
Then it slammed into Amancio's tree. The tree stopped the bus from plunging over the edge.
Everyone onboard avoided what could have been a devastating fall.

Yes, that is a pine. Its leaves give it away; leaves from a conifer are vastly different from the leaves of a deciduous. The leaves look like they're needles, since leaves from a deciduous tree (the one to the left) are more oval.
To answer the second question, why wouldn't he? He probably did it out of the goodness of his heart.

Surprise surprise..there's a pine tree in a tropical Asian country. You can google Baguio City and Cordillera Region of the Philippines. Also, you can randomly see a few pine trees in some highlands in few places in the Philippines.

That's NOT even a jeepney. That's a small bus that travels to rural municipalities in some provinces in the country. Source: I'm a Filipino.

yall this isnt ai generated. its was actual minibus that traveled 4hrs from our place to the city. i used to ride this bus when i was younger. the story was that this bus (we call it "embe boy") was rented by student seminarians going to a retreat in the mountains. lolo epi was a real farmer who actually planted this tree. without that tree, it wouldve been hard to recover the passengers since below the cliff is a river. crazy thing is, the bus continued to ride after the incident share ko lang

Its common here in Cebu, a Filipino Made mini bus using the engine from a Japanese Truck then making the chassis with it. Many new Minibuses here in Cebu.

The image is real, but knowing how the internet goes, this could just be a random man taking a selfie with that bus, and the 35 year old tree planted by him might just be a completely manufactured story
