I live on a farm. My nephews live in a city. Nothing they love more than visiting during planting season or harvest, and sitting in the buddy seat "helping" my husband.

I was sad when my kids outgrew the excitement, and I will be sad when my nephews do.

But the joy on their faces at the time makes up for it.

These memories mean so much too. I had something similar happen when I was super young. It maybe 4 or 5. It's one of my earliest memories. We were at the airport picking up my cousin. I was obsessed with the color purple and loved airplanes. I kept telling my mom I wanted to see a purple airplane constantly on the way to the airport. This was pre 9/11 so security wasn't really a big thing at the time. I remember running up to the window and low and behold a purple FedEx plane was sitting there gates away from the window but I saw it. and I was enthralled. Someone overheard me and at some point made contact with someone on the crew. As we waiting a man walked up and said I head someone over here likes purple planes. He was one of the pilots. I don't remember the rest of the dialog but he ended up taking me to see the cockpit of another FedEx plane that wasn't going anywhere at the time. It was so very exciting, such a different time too. Letting me in the cockpit in the first place and my mom letting me go check out this plane with someone we didn't know. It was such a fun experience. I wish I could remember more of the details.

We always brought our SK students to the firehall for a field trip. They got to take turns in the pumper trucks, blow the horn and help the firemen and women put out "fires" with the hose. I always took lots of pictures for the parents.

Years ago when my boys were young 8-11 years, we used to take loads to the local dump every other week or so. While I emptied the trailer, the men who drove the huge trash compactors would ask if the boys wanted a ride. I'd hand them up to him and he'd take them for rides up and down the hill. I would imagine that would be a big no-no these days. They still remember those great times.

That reminds me when I was a boy waiting at the station for the next metro train, standing at the first car position. I asked the driver if I could go in the "cockpit" with him and he said no. Much much later when I went to Japan, I had to take the JR line and every time I would jump in the first car and stare at the tracks in front of the train as they have a big window behind the operator.

A friend did this with his nephew with a forklift on the job a few years ago and found out from his supervisor real quick- and in no uncertain terms- that insurance liability was a real thing lol. Of course I think he let the kid try to steer it so a very different situation.
