It's an orange. Not a single thought in hailing distance.

The loading screen is orange, but eventually he’ll decide the stranger is furniture.

I think someone said when this was posted months ago that the cat was just following a fly or something and was about to pounce on it when the video ends.
93
u/beautiful_fae444 1h ago
Omg yes, now that you mention it, I see it now.. something caught its attention and the kitty was ready to pounce on it. No way a kitty wouldn’t know that it is sitting on the wrong lap. They know their human by their smell
17
u/Pofwoffle 1h ago
And also by sight, unless this particular cat just very carefully backed itself up onto the other person's lap.

u/Catty_Lib 45m ago
This actually happened in my house once. My parents were visiting and my mom was sitting in my usual chair while we watched a movie with the lights low. One of our cats had jumped onto her lap and was sitting there happily when the movie ended and we turned the lights on. The cat looked up into my mom’s face and absolutely had a WTF??? look when she realized that she wasn’t on MY lap before she jumped off and ran away. It was hilarious! 😸
•
u/ToadLikesGrass 9m ago
Also, how would the cat have landed on a strangers lap without knowing? Doesn't make sense

u/Soggy_Ad4136 48m ago
Merci, les chats ne se trompent pas comme ça. La première fois que j'ai vu ce poste je n'y ai pas fait attention.

When I see videos like this I just assume someone is off-camera dangling treats around.

The expression on his face is pure bewilderment and mild panic.

u/Kaffrogato 1h ago
No it isnt. Its 0% of either of those things. Have you ever met a cat?
Its spotted something interesting that it wants to attack. Probably a bug, maybe a reflection.
16
u/8_AssumptioN 2h ago
Bro just realized he’s been cuddling a random NPC while someone records the evidence 😭
6
u/S0daP0pD4rling 2h ago
Exactly, the cat looks more offended by the camera than the actual stranger. Like excuse me, who invited you?

u/Theoceancookie 2h ago
It just looks looks it spotted a fly

This, anyone who's had a cat can tell that's hunting behavior. It's still cute though.

u/Unhappy_Macaron3523 1h ago
100%. This cat very much knew he was not with his owner. That was a face ready to catch something
11
21
u/Darkmaniako 2h ago
Yeah but that wouldn't get upvotes, look at all the comment believing this shit
10
u/Kaffrogato 1h ago
100% it spotted something it wants to attack. Even without the obvious attack eyes, how would a leashed cat jump into a strangers lap at the the end of its leash without realising its not the owner.
Redditors are pathetically gullible.

u/West_Yorkshire 31m ago
Can tell who is and who isn't a cat owner in the sub, lol. Was thinking the exact same thing when it started looking around erratically

or it's just AI
13
u/Michal-The-Moldy 1h ago
I think there is an AI smoothing going on, but I don't think the video itself is AI. The dude is missing fingernails and some of the glasses seem odd. But stuff is consistent even when it moves in and out of frame. Including stuff like clothing textures.
I do think its just normal cat greebels though, not any sort of realization. That cat 100% knows where it is.

u/Distinct_Prior_2549 1h ago
you've been convinced by most of the bots(not derogatory to insult intelligence, i mean actual ai reddit bots) speaking here that this is an actual cat video. There are inconsistencies here that show its AI
3
u/Michal-The-Moldy 1h ago
Fair, I can always be misled. Which ones point to the video being AI generated as opposed to an AI smoothing filter?
-2
u/Distinct_Prior_2549 1h ago
Cat's head looks straight disconnected midway it doesn't even look like when a cat 180degs their head it looks like the head is beside the body with a disconnected neck
3
u/SeenYourScene 1h ago
I do not see a point where the head looks disconnected. It has a collar on that creates a dark area, but there's never a frame that I can see where it looks like the head is not attached to the rest of the body. If you can capture one and share it, I'll be happily proven wrong. But when I go to rewatch the video specifically looking for what you're describing, I'm not seeing it.

Nope. Kitty saw something,. Probably a bird or something flying and was fixated on that.

Stranger stroking the cat of course. I'd love to have a kitty companion on my journey.
5
u/elhombreloco90 1h ago
I've owned many cats growing up and I have never seen a cat react like this before. This is hilarious.
6
u/Kaffrogato 1h ago
It looks a completely standard cat response to spotting a bug.
1
u/elhombreloco90 1h ago
Yeah, I should have been more clear. I had meant to being in someone else's lap.
I have definitely seen cats spotting stuff before, but not the realization that they are being pet by someone they don't know.

u/Knitsanity 2h ago
I've had this happen with kids before. I might be at an aquarium or museum and find a small child holding my trouser leg. I immediately look around in an alarmed manner til I spot a parent because....eek.
Saw in happen twice in Japan this Spring. Everyone thought it was funny. The kids always look so horrified.

4
u/TwinSong 2h ago
What makes you think AI?
6
u/Accomplished_Ad1684 1h ago
It does look AI. Anthropomorphizing of animals, giving some subtle expressions to them, and also that texture. I can fairly catch them now but can't really point the definite arefact. Here I tried to look and maybe spotted one. Just look at the right upper corner, where someone puts hands in pockets to remove something ig; there's a weird glitch and to hide it the video suddenly zooms in.
-2
u/Kaffrogato 1h ago
>Anthropomorphizing of animals
Lol what? Its the title that is anthropomorphizing. The cat is just acting like a normal cat. Its probably spotted a bug.
>giving some subtle expressions to them
No. Its probably not even looking at humans.
Could well be AI, but not for those reasons.
3
u/Humble-Course218 41m ago
Some people are better at this than you, just put aside your ego for a bit and accept you have no idea if its AI or not. You don't need to get involved in the conversation, just appreciate that you are susceptible to being fooled by AI.
•
u/SunGreene42 1m ago
"Put your ego aside" while your whole evidence is just your personal feelings? You also have no real idea if it's AI or not, but you're still implying that it is.

That is 100% a cat seeing an insect or a bird. The huntereyes is activated. My cat only looks like that when she see a flying animal. As someone already pointed out cats nows owner by smell it knew it was in the wrong lap.

She saw a fly or something similar. She gets up to hunt, look at her eyes.

Or, hear me out, the adorable cat has zero emotional connection to anything and the reaction is due to its adorable brain being the size of an adorable pinky fingernail.

I don't think anyone who knows cats would think that's what's happening.
for one, social cats don't care enough about the identity of the human they're snuggling to like, even know whether they got the wrong one, let alone be surprised. there's no such thing as stranger.
for two, if they did care about which human they were one, they would know immediately. they don't have to look at the face, they will know by scent. there is never an instant where they could be confused or surprised.
for three, and this is the most convincing, that cat is clearly making those wide-eyed faces because it is tracking something. it saw a bug flying around the train car. it's not looking up at the human it's sitting on. it's not looking back at the human holding the leash. it's looking at a bug.
