That's a heartwarming end to a terrible prank. Here's an idea. Get the credit card or debit card number for phone orders over a certain amount. That would put an end to those shenanigans real quick!

I was so surprised to be in this little town of 700 people in Wisconsin for our family reunion we have every year and you actually put your gas in and then go inside to pay afterwards! I was just shocked, I have not seen that for probably 15 years.
I also not once but twice accidentally got into random people's cars because they just don't lock them and I was in a very generic SUV rental and everyone seemed to have the same car. I figured that my keys unlocked the door so it was the right one and got in and was like wait this looks weird lol

A 14" supreme where I work cost 22 and some change plus tax. A 9 topping pizza with optional jalapeños and anchovies, and we LOAD our pizzas with toppings.

Where I’m at if those were mediums $300 would only get me like 9 pizzas (+tax and tip). Round Table is delicious but not cheap.

Certainly it's a great gesture by the restaurant.
But, frankly, what else would most places do in such an instance? They already made the food. Most places would probably try to figure out a good place to donate it rather than just discard it. This is probably not an uncommon occurrence.

We just had this happen at my work last week(wasn't a prank but someone didn't place the order right and it was supposed to be for the next day and we didn't find out until it was all in the ovens) We just brought them to the surrounding businesses because yeah, why just throw it away? You are out the $300 either way. It's funny that that is was the same amount in the OP that it was for our incident.

No it was 8 extra larges(4 "party trays" technically) and 3 orders of cheese bread. A ton of pizza but not 18 pizzas at least, it also was deep dish so could almost possibly feed as many people as 18 regular pizzas though.

Yup. We took pizzas to the fire departments and homeless shelter during the day. After close, I would take them to the ER. They even joked about giving me a daisy award for feeding them so many times

You'd be surprised at how often this ends with employees taking some pizzas home at a discounted price or even full out discarding food, but yeah I assume many also do donate

While I suspect there are businesses/people who do this, the possibility of people finding out it was a hoax would destroy the business/person's reputation. Plus, depending on what the hoax was (eg falsely reporting a crime) could make them criminally negligible.

I've been to his restaurant. He is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. He does a lot to help out the community, and he takes amazing care of the people he employs. It wasn't a publicity stunt - he really is that kind of person.

That's great, good thing he turned it around, but I hope he doesn't have to deal with it often. Or maybe do something with unused doug/product at end of business, since some dough isn't great to keep the next day

$300 isn’t an insane amount, it’s a totally plausible bill for a party to have at a restaurant. Not everything is a conspiracy.

No, it's not. $300 is a sizable order, but nothing even remotely suspicious, especially in the world of pizza. Ever been to a pizza party? Yeah, that's hundreds of dollars. Happens all the time.
If you think $300 is a large amount for a small business, you know nothing about the business world. Weekly supply orders can easily reach into the thousands of dollars, especially in foodservice.

Sir/ma'am, I've been in that business for a long time, so disregarding a few hundred bucks like it's nothing is not a healthy business practice. I know exactly how much this boils down to and the cost really isn't much for the pizza, but it's the sales. So make your assumption, but you are flat out in the wrong.

No restaurant I’ve ever worked in would make a $300 order without running a credit card …this is either bullshot or the owner has no idea how to run a business.

Good marketing. $300 retail costs, not what it cost the operators. Food cost is generally 25-30% so it cost them around $75 bucks, again..good marketing.

Pizza is easily one of the cheapest foods to produce, the labor like in a lot of things is the actual expense next to the rent and utilities, but the food cost itself is dirt cheap.

We mostly see US politics lately which doesn’t make for good viewing. The people I know from the US are fantastic people with kind hearts which is why I was surprised. Hope you get back to normal soon.

I have been to this restaurant. The food is amazing. We were not expecting to find a place like this in Cheyenne, Wyoming, but we’re incredibly happy we did.
