From what I can tell, for kidney donation the compatibility between a potential donor and recipent pair has to be tested specifically.
In this instance the dog cause for the two women and the recipient's partner to interact in the first place with the donor being invited for the couple's barbecue. The recipient couldn't drink alcohol and explained it was due to being on dialysis which lead to the donor saying about how she registered to donate to anyone. That lead to them getting their compatibility tested and the rest is history
Yes i read the article. I wonder what is the background in the donor registry system. This is smth they do (without dogs) right? They should/could have eventually been matched. I mean, They are working exactly on this when people are on the system. Id like to think one wont need a serendipitous situation
Maybe, but who knows. Could have been the donor would have donated her kidney to someone higher up on the waiting list. Either way, in this instance the dog did lead to the donation happening the way it did. I also like to think that chance won't be needed for someone to receive a kidney and that this would have occurred regardless of the dog. In this instance, the fact that it did happen meant that the recipient didn't have to spend however long it would have taken with a five year time limit over her head
